Mod- You may delete. Thank You!
Foghorn Leghorn replied to Foghorn Leghorn's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ah, now i see that i'm on the wrong track. The hood i have is molded in a grayish blue but unlike the Mono 1940 Ford PU hood, mine has half of a hinge device molded in/on to the trailing edge of the hood. Back to the drawing board. Thanks, Men! -
Minimizing issues with those pesky super glue bottles!
Foghorn Leghorn replied to DanR's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I got tired of large bottles of instant glue turning to rock so now i buy these 12-packs at Zoro for about 60cents a tube. Don't buy these little tubes at Harbor Freight. Many have only a few drops of glue in them. These are pretty full and if they set up before the glue is used up, just get another one out of the jar. https://www.zoro.com/super-glue-instant-adhesive-2g-tube-clear-pk12-15187/i/G2688086/ https://www.zoro.com/super-glue-instant-adhesive-2g-tube-clear-pk12-15185/i/G2177481/ If you sign up for their emails they'll let you know about some pretty good sales. They've got a few thousand dollars out of me. -

So when a company like Dencon folds their products are no longer available. Just wait until eBay hears about this! -

That is some very good and respectable work. Far beyond my attention span. -
"Garnet Red" 1991 454-SS Pickup
Foghorn Leghorn replied to 1972coronet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Those are some spectacular pics, Chris ! Them seat risers seem to have had a good number of encounters with salty boots. Does the ol' plow truck still run with the instrument cluster yanked out of it? -
"Garnet Red" 1991 454-SS Pickup
Foghorn Leghorn replied to 1972coronet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Garnet Red was a regular production Chevrolet paint color. But they had no qualms about re-using color names or even old colors with new names. See if this works for you. -
1957 BelAir McEwen Funny Car
Foghorn Leghorn replied to Foghorn Leghorn's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for the link, Chief. I have an original but i just bought the current issue. I have a pic of my approx 8 year old son posing next to the real car in the pits back in the day. He remembers nothing and that's fine. -
Could be old news and i searched this site but found nothing. I just saw the old Revell Mongoose 1957 Chevy F/C in Atlantis badging on the giant auction website. Priced cheap for a new 1/24 car kit.

That's fantastic ! Probably more aged than many of your viewers here.

Vega Subframe
Foghorn Leghorn replied to ManiacModeler's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Sadly, Vegas are full-unibody cars. There are no subframes. As i recall, Toy IX ran a mostly stock front suspension with tubing added for stiffening. Might've been a rack & pinion added as well but the control arms, spring pockets, k-member were all stock Vega. The models were too small to have any real chassis detail. Look at the MPC Mustang II Pro Stocker. It's wrong but it has more detail than the Vega chassis. -
This will likely be the last post on this WIP in awhile. So far, i got it apart, stripped the paint, ground out the side & rear windows, got the side window openings to where they need to be, and that's about it. It was built with NOTOX glue and it gives off an amusing smell when grinding on it. Would kinda like to hang the hood and fenders but need to get the windshield wipers off first. Tried carving them off with a sharp knife but the plastic is unusually hard. I have a 1/4" ball rotary file that's gonna get a shot at it next. Just don't want to take too much off ? Pretty sure that these are all correct Novacaine parts with the possible exception of the 'chute.

Nice Work! I've owned a few 1969 Impalas, including a 4-speed convertible and an SS427 Sport Coupe. So i shut up now.

Primer Color
Foghorn Leghorn replied to bluestringer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'd prime over orange and before a red topcoat with red oxide. But as you well know, opinions are like...never mind! Final Word: Experiment and learn! -
Haven't tried it yet but surmise that empty firearm cartridge cases could make fine punches for model car parts. Haven't tried it yet, too busy emptying them, but a .45 case is about the perfect size for a 3/8" gasket hole. And if the case cuts one or fewer gaskets? So What?

We used to use a guillotine paper cutter on the thin stuff like .015" and thinner. It had been modded with a brake to hold the sheet in place while it was being cut. It worked great! A sturdy pair of scissors should work well, too, but you'll have to flatten the piece after the cut. A hard roller on a flat surface oughta do it.

Here's a little more. Looks like Decals By Lucas is defunct. For others who are watching: Poly=Polychromatic=Metallic (paint). BTW, ALL 50 1963 Impala Z-11s were base Impalas, NOT Super Sports. Plus, the Leal car most likely had a standard bench interior. Not 2-tone but it might've appeared that way. If you need, i'll hunt down the thread where someone posted a 5-6 page magazine article with engine builder Bill Thomas (Cheetah) and Larry Leal in the same pics.

Ditzler 12711 Monaco Blue Poly. There's a die cast model of this car. If you can find a pic that would verify it.

Duplicolor 1k clear
Foghorn Leghorn replied to Hondamatic's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm intrigued by that clear coat. I wanna try some, spray a few coats, then wet-sand with some really fine paper to smooth it out. Then blow on one last coat or two. If it behaves like lacquer, it can be fine-sanded & compounded. -
https://www.ebay.com/itm/403069615810 Too bad he drove it on the street. 17,000 miles in 18 mos in New York state means it's been in the salt. When someone grinds those bubbles off the bottoms of the rear quarter panels there's gonna be holes there. In the first video you can hear the solid lifters when the engine settles down. That's pretty cool.
