  1. My friend, "Dr. Bob" wants me to build him a 1/8th scale Exterminator powered by two Ford 427 SOHC engines. Body is to be painted Ford Guardsman Blue with 2 white stripes. Starting with the 1/8th scale Lindberg Exterminator plastic model: Here's a preview of the parts I will be using from the kit: I was able to locate a couple of 1/8th scale resin Ford 427 SOHC engines from Big Scale Dreams. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Big-Scale-Dreams Here is a photo of all the parts which come with each engine: Now, onto cleaning up the parts and seeing how everything is going to fit. dang...this thing is going to be BIG! thanx for looking...
  2. Never miss it the Monterey Bay Scale Auto Association will be in attendance along with a "Give-Away" model diorama c'ya
  3. Inspiration to build this model comes from Salt Flat Racers being a theme at this years NNL West and not having built a motorcycle in awhile. Came across a couple of photos of Peter Breede and his Yamaha. Used the engine, exhaust, front tree, wheels and tires from the 1/12th Gunze Sangyo Yamaha Clubman Racer kit. The engine and parts are solid chunks of white metal, so decided to build the frame in brass. Was pleasantly surprised how easy working with brass can be. Being as though Peter's bike only had a small rear drum brake and the Clubman racer had drum brakes front and rear, I laced both the kit front and rear wheels using scratch-built hubs. Here's the finished model, ready for the NNL West... thanx for looking'...
  4. Yah Bill it is a clunkier of a kit... here's a pixur of the motor i'll be using this should help dress it up a little more and likely have it at the NNL West as "Work in Progress" c'ya
  5. A buddy wants me to build him a 1/8th scale Exterminator (Lindberg) with a couple of Ford 427 SOHC's pulling it. Picked up a couple of resin Ford 427 SOHC drag engines from "Big Scale Dreams" Any of you know of a good source for 1/8th scale stuff? Just kinda curious on what is out there. Dang this thing is gonna be BIG! thanx
  6. Tamiya Moto Guzzi converted to a Cafe Racer

  11. Great models Chuck... I also like the 68 bug
  12. Very, very, very nice Harry. I did not realize you were so prolific. My favorite is the "Italia" and thank you for all your help on the "A2Z" article c'ya
  13. A gentleman brought his model of the '55 Chevrolet Stake-bed truck I built for him @ 5 years ago by the shop for repairs. He dropped it and a few things broke off. He asked if I could build a model of his brothers 1937 Chevrolet 2 dr "Humpback" Sedan as a Xmas gift. I told him it shouldn't be a problem, hardest part would be finding a '37 humpback sedan body. I did find a resin '39 humpback sedan from Hendrix Resins. The biggest difference between the '39 resin body and the '37 was the "humpback" was missing on the '39. Got the dremel out and started carving, luckily the resin was fairly thick. here's how it all went together: Powered by a small block Chevy with "Heartbeat" Valve Covers courtesy of Steve Allemand Paint is Testors One Coat Fiery Orange after completed, I did not like how the kick panels looked, so I modified them...kinda scary when playing with a finished model, but results were worth it. Finished model: these photos were taken before I modified the kick panels... thanx for looking...
  14. That's his name...I heard "Mrs Brown...." on the radio by Herman's Hermits and couldn't remember his name. I knew it wasn't Herman thanx plus I do not keep track of the time spent on a model, but I do like Cranky's idea of keeping notes on a build and try to take photos during the build in case I might do a write up on it.
  15. Well...that's good news for those of us who plan on bringing an "Outta-da-Box" entry to Salt Lake! I was ready to put the (outta-da-box) 1950 Olds I had just finished for sale on ebay... Lookin' forward to watching you build these Fords I'll have to checkout the Group 15 Class... I'm looking forward to going to Salt Lake next year, be my 1st time
  16. Very, very nice bike John I just can't imagine siting on top of the exhaust, it's gotta fry your "cajones" oh-h yeah...nice manicure!
  17. Very nice my friend...like how you did the rear window, always thought it looked funny when the rear window looked like a "mail slot" on chopped cars
  18. A purple racecar???? love it! especially Fireball Roberts
  19. and there isn't a rear view mirror for the drivers door in the kit...
  20. I wanted to build a '65 Mustang to celebrate them being around for 50 years. Picked this up at the Local Hobby Shop, yep...we have one in Hollister. I had an extra 1/16th scale SC Cobra 427 engine leftover from a few Cobra 427 builds I had done earlier. I thought the 427 would be nice fit in the Mustang. My goal was to build a "sleeper" so to speak. I liked the American Racing Wheels in the kit, but didn't want to go with the Big/Little stance. I was able to get an extra set of wheels from Mike Kucaba in exchange for the Cobra 289 engine. I went with the front wheels on all four corners. My friend Steve Allemand gave me a set of tires beefier than the stock tires in the kit. The 427 engine went into the mustang fairly easy, just had to fabricate a couple of motor mounts. I stayed with the cast exhaust headers and went with the dual carb set up. The body was painted with MM Ford Wimbeldon White and the stripes/interior is Ford Viking Blue from Scalefinishes. Here is the finished model: Thanx for lookin... oh yeah, it's 1/16th scale
  21. Thanx for all the great comments... I was re-reading the post and was quite surprised to see the "Guzzi pictures" on this thread...do not know how that happened, weird presently working on a land speed record yamaha in 1/12th scale
  22. Thanx I"ll check with my Local Hobby Shop about getting a can of the stuff... oh-h-h-h boy!
  23. Okay...TS-25 Pink is exactly what I used. I thought maybe Tamiya had came out with a pink primer spray to go with their gray and white primers...which although pricey are the best primers for plastic on the market.
  24. I'm fairly familiar with Tamiya paints, but not with a "Pink Primer"? I know they have a Gloss Pink in both spray and bottle. Only Tamiya primers in spray I know about is a very fine gray and a super fine white. I have used the gloss pink as an undercoat on a Ferrari with good results
  25. Thanx for all the great comments Nothing wrong with "stepping' outside the box" now and then. I had a lot of fun building this model...I can't imagine going dang near 55 mph on it though! Hardest part was keeping my 3 year old nephew from taking it home with him this past Saturday!
