You are correct: ...even worse than the '78. This was probably the last in the line of MPC Chevette kits?:
-
I believe it's the latter:
-
You can scratch the Maverick and Hornet off the list, as they were done by JO-HAN, and the tooling is likely long gone. The Comet tooling still exists, so it's possible we could see that one again. Round2 probably has the AMT and MPC Pinto tooling, too, and while I'm not sure the MPC coupe/hatchback and wagon are based on the same basic tooling, I believe the '78s were the last from MPC, so we'd probably get one of these: The latter can be built stock, too. The Pinto doesn't have much appeal to me, but if the Gremlins and Pacer sell well, we might see Pinto, Matador, and Chevette kits again.

I think we have plenty of time, so need to rush anything. We'll only have seven people participating at most, so we've each got plenty of time. Andrew will send the entire kit to you, Fred, then you can set up the chassis and complete the engine, and send it back to me or someone else if we get another participant before you're finished.
-
I missed Fred's comment when he originally posted it, so we'll let him handle as much or as little as he wants, and if nobody volunteers for the chassis work by the time Fred is ready to mail it, I will handle that step to keep the project moving along.

That brings to mind one of the odd aspects of this kit. The skinny stock tires for use with the Rally wheels are closer to 16" once the integrally molded trim ring is factored in, while the optional Goodyear Eagle tires and matching wheels are 14" in diameter, which is why I am very much looking forward to seeing what the new wheel and tire diameter will be.

Many of us have a favorite donor kits, or favorite parts from a specific kit, but which kit(s) contains your favorite decal sheet(s)?

Michaels 50% off coupon!
Casey replied to Miserable Soul's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not sure if you can find that out publicly. I think Chris Batson worked/works there and he mentioned it a few years ago. -
Weird cars!
Casey replied to Jantrix's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
This is probably the only vehicle in this topic which you can find in the form of a 1/24 scale kit: -
Fred mentioned earlier in the topic that he'd like to fit the engine to the chassis, fit the exhaust, and setup the chassis in a lowered position, so when you're finished, Andrew, you can send it back to me (unless you're heading to the Serb Hall swap on Nov. 3rd?), and I'll mail it north to Fred or you can send it directly to Fred. Looks like the blue and white stripe and a white interior have three votes so far...

I would suggest you hold the shock assemblies tops to the trailing arms nubs, drop a tiny drop of you favorite glue into the lower shock sockets on the frame rails, and drop the rearend/trailing arms assembly in place at the same time as both shocks. Not sure if you can put the rearend/trailing arms in place first and if that will be perfectly positioned so the shocks are exactly the right length or not, but dry fitting it that way would let you know how close it will come.

Michaels 50% off coupon!
Casey replied to Miserable Soul's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just FYI, all Michael's stores are not equal, nor do they all carry the same volume of items. IIRC, there are A-, B-, and C-level stores, with A-level stores carrying the most product, and C-level the least amount. I've been in a C-level store and was surprised to see maybe 15 model kits total, while the A-level stores I usually shop at have closer to 75-80. -
All of these issues have different box art, though two seem close enough that they may have updated the Monogram logo while the kit was in the then current lineup. Lots of '90s Monogram box styles at the very least, and lucky us, we got the Monogram 1/24 '69 Camaro Z/28 as a bonus once.
-
Yes it was. I think the custom-only version was molded in all black, one reissued in orange and black, then the most recent reissue in all white plastic. It's kind of surprising how many times it's been reissued. More on that later.

I like how the entire model is turning out. Beautiful work, Erik.

Matt, there were some issues a few years ago with the "New, Improved" BMF, mainly it wasn't as good as the older stuff, but I think that's been rectified for a while. I would stick with the Regular Chrome instead of the Ultra Bright. It always looked 'right' to my eyes, so that's what I've always used.

The secret is out!...I'm BATMAN!

Please, none of you in tights. -
When will Revell show us what they got?
Casey replied to 7000in5th's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's true, but the Vette kit(s) will still be one of Revell's top sellers, even two years "late". Revell doesn't include model years on its Ferrari kit boxes, so the lack of a model year or the lack of the current model year matching the kit's model year doesn't seem to be affecting sales of those kits, either. -
I think it may be molded in white and black, and possibly a third color, similar to the 1/12 Shelby Mustang GT500 kit which was molded in three colors. As for the rs grille, that's far easier said than done. You also need to remove the back up lens in the center section of the tail light pieces, create the back up lamps and housings, modify the rear valance panel, and did I mention the grille? I picked up an extra set of tail lights and a rear valance panel with this project in mind, but I'll still need to wait for the kit to arrive before getting started. Hopefully someone beats me to it.

slight rant about differences
Casey replied to wagonmaster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I disagree. Any builder who is serious, passionate, and sincere, regardless of what they build, understands what building means to them personally, and how it also applies to another builder who might be building a Sherman tank, a vinyl fantasy figure, a robot, etc. To dismiss another model building genre different from one's own comfort zone speaks more about that person than the genre s/he dismisses or puts down. -
I second both. Stripe #1 and a white interior.
-
The darker blue color shown in Jeff's pic wins. I think we'll leave it up to Billy to pick a blue which is close to that color, since he's doing the painting. Do we want to use the factory laser stripe? If so, and we want to use one from the decal sheet, which one? Fred voted for stripe #4, so let's hear from the others participating in the build which (if any) stripe you prefer. Here are the choices if you want to use the factory laser stripes:

Welcome aboard, Mike. Can you post a better pic of that Mustang, please? It seems a bit out of...focus.
