Duster interior question
Casey replied to mnwildpunk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Most Mopars of this era used a lightly textured or matte finish on the lower dash and steering column tube and collars, so they were usually either black or color keyed to the interior color. The horn pad (assuming you are using the base three-spoke wheel included in the AMT '71 Duster 340 kit?) color would be color keyed to the steering wheel. What does "no selling on the forums" mean?
Casey replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Example A: No Examples B and C: Yes The minute a price is mentioned, the post crosses the no selling line IMHO. When the person who mentions the price is the same person who owns the business or is doing the selling (even if they don't make the product), it's even more of a red flag. eBay links are tricky, but I agree that as long as the ebay link is posted in response to a question or in an attempt to help someone find something, it's allowed. For example: Harold: "Does anyone know where I can find a resin Muntz Jet body?" Jose: "This seller on eBay has them, Harold: _____ link to eBay item ______ " We can't police every single eBay link, so we're relying on the honor system. The Trade and Wanted sections seem to be the areas where the No Selling and No Buying rules are broken the most often, but every member is required to read an follow the rules, so there's no excuse for attempting to buy and sell on the forum. -

If someone has the '32 Speedwagon, roadster, 3W, 5W and RR kits to do a nose-to-nose-to-nose-to-nose-to-nose comparison, that would be awesome. -
Looking at the test shots on page one, it appears the insert areas are smooth, leading me to believe Revell will include decals for the inserts. I guess those who want to build the '49 Merc Woody stock should pick up an AMT '49 Mercury kit right about now, too.

I think I have a new favorite, even ignoring the crush I had on Faye Dunaway from the 1967 movie: Bullet holes stamped out of the box lid? THAT is a nice touch.

If the box art doesn't feature a car poppin' a wheelie while smoking the tires, and doesn't have red-hot flames shooting out of the headers, I'm not even pickin' it up.

I don't think you can change back to the old format anymore. After Feb 3rd or 6th they are no longer supporting the old beta version, so it's the new version only. I don't link to have to scroll down and wait for all the images to load, but it's not much worse than having to click "all images" every time I go into an album. Then again, it's free, and I have a ton of pics in two albums, so I really have nothing to complain about.

The only bummer is the "bomber" look is lost when the seat covers are installed, but they will no doubt find their way into other builds: It's very unique: I do like the gearshift lever, but can't tell what the shift knob is supposed to be, based on its cone(?) shape?: Easily one of the kit's best parts: I know some think the hood portholes are cheesy, but I think they're one of the details which makes this car stand out. To me, they seem like a bit of a nod to past styling, but now incorporated into the hood in a position where they could actually have a function. When I first saw the car with the hood on, I was hoping there were injector stacks which lined up with the portholes, and though two more would be needed to jive with a traditional V-8 Hilborn style mechanical fuel injection setup, they at least show Stacey's aware of American automotive history and styling: The windshield frame is really nice, too, and probably long overdue: The front cycle fender are also prime for using on other builds. Here's a close up shot of the mounting bracket: Not my best photography, but you can at least make out the classic shape of the front fenders, and hopefully see they have a nice, think edge bead detail: Here are the chrome parts: -
It probably didn't. As suggested, add a bit more thinner. It sounds like the paint is drying before it reaches the parts, leaving a rough finish and never allowing the paint to flow out once it reaches the parts. It could also be the air pressure was too low. Was the pressure changed between the time you sprayed the suspension parts and when you sprayed the engine?

That's the catch- how "good" is good enough? How far do you take it? How far does Revell take it? How much detail, accuracy, or scale fidelity does it take to be "good enough" for you, me, and the other 249,998 people who will buy this kit? Revell decides what's "good enough," period. Not me or you, nor anyone else on this forum...unless Ed Sexton is lurking . -
I think I read somewhere the front and rear suspension pieces are fully chrome plated, too.

Those 5-slot wheels are found in the current AMT Avanti kit, too.

The wheels can be modified to fit the (sometimes hated) Goodyear Blue Streak Sports Car Special tires (and others) with some work: And two pics showing the 5W's firewall and the Rat Roaster's firewall in place on the 5W's body shell: -
The top left Chevy cowl air cleaner is available from Ian @ Scenes Unlimited: http://www.scenesunltd.com/ The others, I haven't seen available, but maybe they are/were?

Most of the available resin eight-lug wheels appear to be based on the wheels from the MPC '74-'77 Dodge pickup kits, which unfortunately are 1/20 scale and scale out to 19" (20.15" measured at the bead) in 1/25 scale. Maybe on a 1/24 scale model they could pass for 18" (19.344' measured at the bead), but 19" is awfully big for a 1/25 scale '50s truck. Plus, the wheels are really deep, and close to an 8" or 10" deep wheel, so they'd need to be narrowed considerably for use on a '50s truck. Here are some comparison shots:
