Is the new IMC still happening?
Casey replied to mr moto's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually, see Sean Svendsen's reply here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=48411&pid=675415&st=80&#entry675415 Sounds like there's a bit of a delay, so a little patience may be required. -
I think Roger Sills(?, not sure about the surname) was the head of American SATCO, and they did offer some nice tire sets in the '90s. IIRC, they were headquartered out of Iowa. FWIW, you can still find their tire sets on eBay.

Any chance we could get a pic or two of those base model (Sport Coupe?) steel(?) wheels, please?

KIT REVIEW SUGGESTION

Round2 has taken care of that by showing what's included on the bottom of each box. -
KIT REVIEW SUGGESTION
Casey replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think a lot of people who visit the forum aren't even aware of those reviews, Gregg. Perhaps a stickied link at the top of the "Reviews" section would help direct people there? I don't see a huge benefit to including instruction sheets in reviews, to be honest. You can't make out much of anything from a line drawing of a part, and if you're relying upon an instruction sheet to "show" you what the kit is like, you're probably wasting your time. Sometimes, you still need to pick up a kit, look over the box art and built model, read the info on the side (parts count, special parts, etc.), and decide if you want to buy it. Sometimes we get spoiled by all the info available at the click of a mouse, but no single review of any one kit can give everyone all the info and answers they seek. What I would love to see is a standardized review form, so that each and every review has a minimum of information, and at least follows a regular, established review pattern. I think that's pretty much what Larry Greenberg does in MCM, and what I would love to see in this section, too. There would still be plenty of room to add your own opinions, comments, and external links if necessary (say to the instruction sheet, if desired), but the basics would always be present (kit name, number, scale, manufacturer, etc.). -
I think that's a reflection...which means nice bodywork and black paint.

I think these were made from acetate, correct? I have seen other, older promos which were badly warped, but you have to do with them what you can...or buy the Johnny Lightning die-cast.

It was a very well done car from what I remember, and I had never seen another Pro Streeter like it with that elliptical air cleaner. It really stood out without needing to resort to any crazy graphics or obscure induction setups....now back to Chuck's build...

1/25 AMT 1973 Chevy Custom Van - Dirty Donny VANTASY
Casey replied to disabled modeler's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Oops, you're correct. It looks like the AMT kit suffers from the same lack of roof overhang at the front issue the Monogram Chevy van does, but the Revell roof would fix that. -

..and some porthole window filler pieces, and you'll need to add the roof ribs. The smooth roof not only sticks out like a sore thumb, but would be near-impossible even on a 1:1 van, short of getting out the English roller and creating an all new roof panel. You would be better off using the separate roof piece from Revell's 1/25 scale kit, and extending it to match the AMT kit's long wheelbase, if you want to make an accurate stock van out of the AMT kit. -
Worked great last night...once I actually joined.

FYI, I talked with Alex(?) at Model Empire Friday, and he mentioned Fred Cady sells only to three distributors, with Model Empire being one of those. Fred doesn't sell direct, nor by snail mail, so if you need any Fred Cady decal sheet, please give Model Empire a call. I paged through a bunch of Fred Cady decal sheets at Model Empire Friday, including Pace Car sheets (I recall '73 Cadillac, '71 Challenger, a Studebaker, the '82 Camaro and more), and they still have many, many FC decal sheets on hand.

Obscure Kits You Never Knew Were Made...Until Now
Casey replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm pretty sure this kit was re-boxed by Testors in the mid to late '80s: -
See post #21 above.

1/43 MPC Dodge A-100 Van & Pickup
Casey replied to Casey's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I picked up this 1/43 scale Testors '32 Ford die-cast kit...: ...hoping the wheels were as nice as they looked on the box art car, so I was very pleased to find two sets of tires and a nice set of Torq Thrust style mags inside: The tires look a lot like the Goodyear Blue Streak Sports Car Special big 'n' littles in the Revell '1/25 '32 Ford kits, only scaled down, and are another nice rolling stock option to have. Here's a front wheel and tire posing with an older body: The Testors '32 Ford kit also has a few nice engine parts-- 4-bbl intake manifold, open element air cleaner, block hugger style headers-- which have me thinking of adding a full engine option to this build, or maybe the pickup version. We shall see... -
Any news on Revell '67 Chevelle pro street?
Casey replied to CEKPETHO BCE's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I think it's a Goodyear issue. Testors still had BFG lettering on their tires, and AMT is creating new Firestone tires to replace old, worn out versions. Didn't some of the Revell Pro Street kits include Moroso and/or Mickey Thompson narrow front tires? -
I always liked Cary Weisner's orange Pro Street '66 Olds Cutlass, so this build should be a good one to watch progress.

Time Machine International Scout SSII Transkit
Casey replied to Chuck Most's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
That's not good. I've seen (what I believe to be) Time Machine's resin stuff on eBay, and it was less than a month ago that I saw it. I think they are located in Lebanon, TN? -
Stacey David's Rat Roaster by : REVELL
Casey replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Those front tires look exactly like those in the Revell '32 Ford Orange Crate kit. It will be interesting to see how Revell handles the rear tires, not to mention the Weiand blower and the trunk/rumble seat area. -
Source of the Amigo Pack '32 Ford Roadster
Casey replied to camaroman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's a review of the most recent reissue (and comments regarding this kit's history) in the Reviews section. -
Which kit body are you basing this conversion on?

I should've been more clear. Is the SMP 1911 Chevrolet kit based on the second prototype 1:1, full-size, etc. 1911 Chevrolet? Or is the article referenced above inaccurate? Or...?
-
"No vehicles were produced in 1911 by the Detroit plant though two prototypes were completed by Louis Chevrolet and his team. The Little mentioned above and the second prototype, the future big six touring car - pictured here circa late 1911 with Louis Chevrolet in the driver's seat. 1911 ended without a single car from Little or Chevrolet in production. Durant finished November and December of 1911 at the Flint Wagon Works building wagons and completing the last of the Whiting motor cars left from the buyout. Production of the first car, the Little Four, would begin the following year." So the SMP 1911 Chevrolet is "the second prototype, the future big six touring car"?
