  1. Sketchfab has a few cars. Some are free. They have both 3D scans of real cars captured via photogrammetry and models that are created completely from scratch in Blender, 3DMax, Maya or CAD apps. Most are downloadable in OBJ format or FBX. which can be converted in some 3D apps to STL. This raw scan is on $9.99 Rusty Bakery Wagon (Raw Scan) - Buy Royalty Free 3D model by Renafox (@kryik1023) [e3f7073] (sketchfab.com)
  2. For free hand drawing, sketching & painting I use ArtRage which is on sale presently for $47 https://www.artrage.com/artrage/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwjIKYBhC6ARIsAGEds-LHVn6phlnUFNGq2RVgoaKcqDo3L0DzyuFYQvWY3zemON7JujsUEWwaApJUEALw_wcB I also use Rebelle 4 although version 5 is not. I used Rebelle on the 1954 Chevy. https://www.escapemotions.com/products/rebelle/about A few pro artist, especially comic book and manga artist are using Krita which is FREE. I've tried Krita and it's a nice program but I go back to Artrage & Rebelle because I know them better and not because they are better. https://krita.org/en/ It is recommended you have a Wacom tablet and stylus attached to your Windows or Mac computer. At first I did not like the Wacom attached to my Windows computer but after two weeks I would not go back to drawing with a mouse. The stylus nicely replicates the pencil, pen, brush feel depending on which tool you are using in Krita, ArtRage or Rebelle.
  3. This is a scifi illustration I created a few years ago, all digitally... "Evening Flight Over the City" It was influenced by my youthful fascination with Marvel Comics artist Jack "the King" Kirby and Heavy Metal artist Moebius...
  4. Damn nice work!!! Looks great...
  5. Cool thread. I've used my Nikon D7000 and a piece of photogrammetry software "3DF Zephyr" to scan in a few of my diecast car models. Because of their shinny surfaces, cars are very difficult to convert to a 3D mesh. And the resulting 3D mesh is very rough and requires a lot of clean up or even may need to be retopologyzed.
  6. Doug Whyte of youtube channel Model Car Muse is not only an outstanding car modeler but is also a fantastic tutor and a professional photographer. I this episode of his fantastic youtube channel he gives tips and advice on taking photographs of your car models.
  7. I went to Michaels and purchased a second kit of AMT's 1967 Pro Street Chevelle using their 30% off coupon.
  8. But looks much worse in Blender when I disable the textures. I've ben told by the 3DF Zephyr crowd on their forum and also on discord, the bumps and holes are caused by light reflecting from the shiny surface. I am no expert in photogrammetry, just a novice want to improve my skills. I do have 15 years experience working in 3D apps like Wings3D, Hexagon3D, Silo3D, e-onsoftware's Vue, DAZ Studio and now Blender and MOI3D. Any feed back, opinions or tips would be much appreciated.
  9. Exported mesh from 3DF Zephyr as an obj and imported into Blender 3.1 Mesh looks ok with textures on but not great or acceptable IMHO.
  10. The mesh in 3DF Zephyr
  11. Using my Nikon D7000 and Nikon 50mm prime lens I took 142 photos of this Charger on a turntable (actually lazy susan I stole from the kitchen table) and 3DF Zephyr accepted 140 of the 142 photos. All shot in the camera RAW format and converted to jpg via Lightroom Example of my photos I took.
  12. Since Christmas of 2021, I've been experimenting with photogrammetry with the intent to scan in some of my 1/24 and 1/18th scale cars to use in my 3D renders and digital illustrations. I also tried modeling cars from scratch in 3D using Silo3D, Hexagon 3D and later Blender 3D and MOI3D. Modeling a car from scratch can be a lengthy process, so I decided to use photogrammetry. I have 7 dlsr cameras - 5 Nikons and 2 Olympus. At first I tried Meshroom which is free but has a very confusing user interface and takes a long time to convert the 50+ photos into a 3D mesh. So I decided to give the commercial apps a try. Reality3D, Metashape and 3DF Zephyr. Reality3D is free but has a per use fee which can be expensive. Metashape has a demo version and 3DF Zephyr has a free version limited to 50 photos. I much prefered the user interface of Metashape and 3DF Zephyr over Meshroom or Reality 3D. So i decided on 3DF Zephyr but found the 50 photo limit on the was too limiting. So I purchased it for just under $200 Canadian. 3DF Zephyr is an Italian product and Metashape is from Agisoft in Russia. I can get acceptable models from toy buildings, animals, etc. But not from cars due the their shiny surfaces which ALL the photogrammetry software has issues. A recommendation from the various 3D scanning sites is to use a powder on the surface of the car or to repaint it in a matte color. Both I do not want to do with my diecasts as in the past I have broken parts removing dust and repainting is out of the question.
  13. What a great looking nostalgia dragster.
  14. Same Fiat, different car show - September 2009, Memory Lane Car Show, Bedford, Nova Scotia
  15. I picked up two of these AMT kits at Michaels. First one was last month and 2nd one was yesterday. Used their 30% off coupons. So I am very interested in this thread.
  16. Nice work!!!
  17. The the direction you are taking this 53 Chevy. My Dad owned a two door 53 Chevy when I was a lad. I think the 1953 & 54 Chevys are just as cool as the tri-5 Chevys....
  18. Love these old Hudson. I would like to purchase one of the Moebius kits. Closes I ever got to a 1950s Hudson was at the Owls Head Transportation Museum in Maine. Never see a 1940s or 50s Hudson around Nova Scotia. But there are a few 1920s & 30s Hudson and Essex which have been hot rodded.
  19. Love that Merc. Will check out your Flickr stream...
  20. I have a few Jada 1/24 diecasts (not model kits) and they always seem bigger then my other 1/24 diecasts or 1/24 Monogram plastic model cars. The Mustang above and Camaro in this thread look great.
  21. Hearse with a Curse - another one of my illustrations created 100% digitally.
  22. It really wasn't promoted that well and very few people knew about even car enthusiasts. Lucky for me it was directly across the street from where I worked so I popped over during lunch with my pocket camera Canon Powershot A610 wishing I had brought one of my dslrs.
  23. Nice tribute to your neighbor...
