Beautiful builds. The window framing looks awesome - are they done with a Sharpie or masked and painted? Greet looking paint and great looking cars! Steve -

Question About Early '70s Wheelie Bars
Coyote_6 replied to Coyote_6's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
@Daddyfink Awesome thought! Just wierd to me that there is just a couple years where wheelie bars seemed optional. Too little traction? Too much horsepower? Too little horsepower? And what was the design intent of the Blue Max winglets in this timeframe ('72ish)? So many questions! 🤣 -
Question About Early '70s Wheelie Bars
Coyote_6 replied to Coyote_6's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
@DJMar @vintagerpm Thanks guys! I am working on Shirley's yellow Mustang and want to do right by it. I hadn't seen those to shots of the blue one. Seems strange to run without wheelie bars, but I can't find pics of the '71 Blue Max with obvious wheelie bars either. Strange mystery. Steve -
Looking for some knowledge. Working on the '71 (Blue Max) and '72 (Shirley Muldowney) Mustang funny cars. They don't appear to have obvious wheelie bars in reference photos. The Blue Max Mustang looks like it ran winglets down low in front of the rear wheels on either side - anti wheelie? Stability? The Muldowney car doesn't seem to have winglets or wheelie bars. Clearly wheelie bars were pretty common prior to 1970, and clearly popular (necessary) through the '80s and into today on Funny Cars. Anybody have any thoughts or info on the missing wheelie bars on these Mustangs in the early '70s? Steve

That thing is awesome! Combining fire trucks and tow trucks? Double awesome!! Great build there. Steve -
Love the SS stripes and the engine detail. That car looks awesome! Steve

Beautiful paint choice. Well done! Steve

Very cool cab. I bought some 1/700 resin print aircraft for an aircraft carrier build and the detail was amazing, even at that small size. That should be an awesome MOPAR hauler! Steve

Seems a race car builder needs a good transporter or two. What kit did your trailer come from?

One to be proud of. Great details. Steve

@M W Elky Yeah. The windows are a little rounded for sure - I think it's the whole roofline portion of the side window is rounded on this kit. Actual car ("A" pillar to roofline has a sharp bend, circled): The kit: And another "random" Charger : But thank you so much for the kind words. I am pretty pleased with it all things considered.

They say there's a lot of stuff going around. I got at least two bugs at the same time. First, 1970's Funny Cars. Second, that sparkly gel-coat fiberglass from the 70's - we had a snowmobile and matching helmet in that glittery red gel coat when I was a kid - it leaves an impression. Between the two, it was inevitable that I modeled Mr. Norm's Super Charger. I'll just leave these here... I used the following Krylon products to replicate the red flake gel coat in red. Overall pretty happy with how it came out. Sorry for the photo dump, trying to figure out if it's better to show all the angles or if less is more. Fun build, but these chassis are wonky on these kits - took a bit to get her leveled on all four. I think I need to figure out where to source scale braided line and fittings from. It would really help this model out. Thanks for checking it out. Steve
