Excellent collection of GTOs there. ( 64’s my personal favourite ). Top stuff. 👍🏻

Love this! Custom paint and deep dish Anson type mags capture the 70’s feel. Top stuff. 👍🏻

Yes mate, you’re right. I’m no stranger with an airbrush having painted many a WW2 warbird before getting back into car modelling, but had to road test the SMS paints ( they do spray nicely) on a car body to get up to speed with a new technique.

A bit more progress on the Q. Got the engine together. My Q had the old 202 cube inline 6, standard except for a set of exhaust headers and 2 inch sports exhaust, the only other departure from stock was a small chrome aftermarket air filter. The kit engine builds up to be a pretty solid representation of the Holden 6. Comes with a wired distributor, which as you can see, the plug leads are a little over scaled but it looks okay.Because the weather was perfect for painting, I painted a body. Not the Q. Because all my previous cars have been painted with Tamiya rattle cans, I haven’t done one with an air brush, and the colour of my Q isn’t available in Tamiya’s lineup. SMS paints have the exact colour except it needs to be air brushed. So before I attempted the Q, I thought I needed to get some practice. I received the Fast and Furious release of the 71 GTX as a gift, not being a fan of the movie series, l thought this would be a good “volunteer” to practice on.Well, wasn’t a disaster. Finish was a bit rough and pebbly on the roof and trunk lid, which indicates l may have had the air brush too far away from the surface. I’ve already rubbed them back with micro mesh to a smooth surface. Will give it another coat, so any tips would be certainly welcome. As an aside, for being brave enough to step up and volunteer, the GTX will be rewarded with a white interior and some custom wheels! Maybe l should do a WIP on this in conjunction with the Q? As always, thanks for looking in. 👍🏻

Intriguing. A two door HQ sedan. I’m liking the body mods, and like you, I’ve got a soft spot for the HQ, so I’ll definitely be looking in on this one. 👍🏻

Long thin stripe decals do my head in, so kudos to you for having the patience. If I have to apply long thin stripes, I’ll cut them half way and apply them as two separate decals. Your Impala is coming along very nicely. I’ve got this in my stash, so keen to see yours when finished. 👍🏻

G’day Bob. For what it’s worth, looking at the photos of the BMF so far, it looks pretty good. But l sort of get it, I have a love hate relationship with the stuff, I’ve been using the blue tape up against the cut line technique for the last couple of models I’ve done and it has helped me a little. Keen to see the 53 finished, it’s gonna look tough.

That is one tough looking Celica! Beautifully executed. 👍🏻

Wow! You certainly breathed new life into an old model. I like it. 👍🏻

Looks beautiful, especially in black with red upholstery. 👍🏻

That’s got to be one of the best engine bays I’ve seen modeled on here, so much detail. On a side note, the ELB system was also fitted to the last of the Chrysler Valiants here in Australia. Top stuff. 👍🏻

G’day Luke. Geez, that’s disappointing when that happens. I had a paint job turn to custard on a 442 Olds last year but after stripping it, it turned out to be probably my best paint job in the end. Even after building around a dozen cars, the body painting still raises the anxiety levels in me! Looking forward to seeing the Sandman finished. 👍🏻

A 50 Chev pickup with Corvette running gear? I’m in! Gotta follow this one. 👍🏻 -
G’day Luke, that HJ van is looking great! 👍🏻 I might have to grab one of these.

Usually associated with big ol’ Chevy Impalas, this build is proof the low rider look works on smaller muscle cars too. As is to be expected with your builds Luke, the black paint is deep and glass like. Top notch. 👍🏻

Been working on the interior over the cooler months here. My HQ had factory bucket seats but the kit only supplied a bench seat, so a deep dive into the parts box revealed a 68 Chevelle set that I thought would work. After scratch building some headrests, I was happy with them. The Q also had the obligatory aftermarket sports steering wheel and I remember back in the day doing away with the column shifter and fitting a floor shift for a more “sporty “ feel! Tamiya xf-68 nato brown was pretty close to the Holden chestnut interior trim, so after airbrushing a couple of coats, detail painting and assembly, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s pretty much how I remember it. thanks for looking. 👍🏻

G’day Luke, starting to get some mild days again, but they usually turn up when I’m rostered on for work! I’ve not painted a car body with an airbrush before, so I’ve got a 71 Plymouth GTX I’m going to paint with SMS paints Wild Violet as a practice run before I do the Q. I’ve finished the interior on the Q and will post some pictures later. Thanks for checking in. 👍🏻

Magnum PI, man l loved that show back in the day. Beautifully built replica of a cool TV car. Love the van too. 👍🏻👍🏻
-
Top stuff Kaci. 👍🏻 These are a favourite of mine. Nice choice of colour.
-
G’day Luke, that looks sweet. 👍🏻 I’m curious about the colour shift paints, do you clear them? Or does that ruin the effect?
-
Hi Michelle, nice build. If you had painted it red it could have been the valiant Dennis Weaver drove in the 1971 movie Duel, when he was chased by the guy in the tanker truck. 👍🏻
-
Sorry to hear that mate. Been in similar situations myself. Take care.

G’day Bob. I’m seriously impressed. Black is hard to get right. I’ve got a 62 Impala in the pipeline l painted TS-14 and I had to rub it out with 8k and 12k micro mesh cloths to get it to the stage your 53 is at. Looking at the pictures, you won’t need to polish it out at all. Nice work .👍🏻

G’day Bob. Is that straight out of the can? Man that came up well. 👍🏻👍🏻
