Like Geoff said, the block and head are most likely shadow, though I've seen many engines painted up similar in the real world. Lots of rattle can warriors. The sprocket color could probably be mimicked with a zinc chromate type metallic finish. Check out alclad or any of the other metal finish type systems. A good effect or the chain can be achieved with washes and dry brushing an oily black over silver or steel

Rolls-Royce No Chemicals, No Paint, No Harmful Glues

Measurements are a definite for me, being a fabricator and running machining equipment at work. I usually end up having to look at my reference material for colors with models multiple times, I always seem to forget to paint one thing or another. -

Great work David. I like the "cheat sheet" you have made up in the first picture. Handy little guide to have at the bench. I've got to remember that. -

What Did You See In Your Yard Today?
johnyrotten replied to Tim W. SoCal's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
My wife is infatuated with hummingbirds. She's told me they learn where feeders are and return every year. And they can learn to trust people and can even be hand fed. So I wouldn't be surprised if he was giving you a look. They seem to have a bit of intelligence in that small brain. -

New tires on my truck, alignment scheduled for tomorrow morning. All set for whatever kind of winter we're going to have. -
I've been paying attention to a few of your builds here, amazing work and thanks for the reply. I recently picked up another Merc, figured I'd revisit that childhood project with a bit more skill. I'll be sure to check those out. ππ

Jon, quick question. Do you use some kind of template or contour Guage for symmetry? Or is this eyeball engineering and experience showing. Either way it's fantastic work as well as an epic tutorial. This level of customization is something I've never done, only one chop job 30-odd years ago on a Mercury.

There's decal solutions to help with issues. Micromark has them, and Tamiya. Maybe that's the ticket.

Clean build, really reminds me of everything I would see on magazine shelves as a kid. I've always liked the deep maroon color on these trucks. Very nice work on thisππ
