These were "cold" bent, I used a pair of tweezers to act as a brake. I roll the the piece between my fingers to get a bit of heat in it and position the tweezers. The tight bends at the head are kinda "cheated". I bend close to a 90 degree, trim for length than chamfer the end. That allows you to angle the pieces where you need them and solvent glue takes care of the rest with a little pressure. The rings on the flange act as a "well" and give a positive location. Hope this makes sense, These are the first set I've ever made.

Bleached/Sunburned paint
johnyrotten replied to stitchdup's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This example is the extreme side, I basically reproduced what happens in nature. Multiple colors, coats, very light airbrush to simulate a spray bomb job. Very little sanding on this. A stiff brush over almost dry paint for the blending. There's laquer, enamel and craft/water based paint on this thing. Sealed with testors dullcoat. It even feels crispy. -
Welcome to the forum Bill. Lots of knowledgeable, talented good people here.

Rolls-Royce No Chemicals, No Paint, No Harmful Glues

This all looks really good David. The more realistic the headlights look really adds to any model. Those have just the right translucency. Nice work. -
Do you also have 1:1 project cars?

Seen that on vw's with the plastic impeller, they also fall off. never a metal one. Surprised it never started leaking. I'd say you got your money's worth. -

You'll come to find it's helpful, especially when you kitbash and scratch build stuff, if that's something you get in to. The majority of the kits I build are second hand, sometimes in less than steller shape, helps to spot warping and other problems. I use pins in a lot of situations for strength and positive location. Test fitting kit windows and interior tubs is a great example, two spots where interference can show up. I've had to add small blocks of styrene to the body to "lock" interior tubs in place and trim kit glass to fit better. Elliot and Micheal's examples/advice are spot on why we do that. -
Awesome looking 32.

Great concept and awesome execution Michelle. The valiant and dart were common, everyday driver cars with a few performance versions thrown in. Your build here fits perfectly with that.

Thanks Kurt. Yeah, the parts store mess is always an ongoing headache. I deal with a ton of old,no longer made parts with my bikes, and questionable aftermarket quality. I've ended up stockpiling n.o.s. parts, and making my own gaskets on things. Kinda pointless for the air cleaner gasket, I remember those littering the shops I grew up in. Dozens hanging everywhere. One thing I do with the clutch side on my bike is to lightly grease one side, I get multiple uses before they leak or tear.

Perfect modifications. Your work plays off the stock form beautifully. This one's gonna be a looker when finished 👍👍

It's all the culmination of life, work, dumb decisions and getting older. I'd just like to have my left arm work without pain or discomfort. Not really thrilled about a neck surgery, but it's probably time to bite that bullet and make the call. I'll find out today.

Getting ready for another round of poking and prodding at doctors. They'll probably end up sending me for another nerve conduction test and MRI. Cause who doesn't love being a pin cushion.
