Rescheduled Model show, Melbourne Florida Sat. 26 Feb 11

Just bumping the thread again, hope to see some of you there. -
How long have you been modeling?
58 Impala replied to wvsm's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My dad started me building at 7 that makes it about 47 years. I'll be 54 in April. -
I've talked to Don Holthaus on the phone, he is a very personable guy. I asked the the same question-why no pictures. He explained that he is a mom and pop business and that he and his wife do everything. He said it would be near impossible to photograph all of his inventory and keep it current. If you order anything from him you won't be disappointed, his stuff is exceptional.

Model Cars Magazine #154
58 Impala replied to TOYCARTEC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Recieved my copy last week in less than desirable condition (care of the USPS's shredder) I called the the phone number in the front of the magazine...Had a brand new copy in a envelope in perfect condition in 3 days. Thank you Golden Bell Press. -
Model Cars Magazine #154

Thanks for the info Harry. I know it is in no way MCM's fault. I have been a subscriber for a while, this month was the first damaged issue. The USPS doesn't make any restitution for their sorting machines chewing up your mags (I've received several over the years). I appreciate MCM's replacing damaged copies. -
I subscibe to both magazines and I am a member of both forums. MCM and SA both have their pluses and minuses, but I enjoy them both. I wish Car Modeler magazine was still in exsistance. I have also subscibed and bought Fine Scale if only for the few car articles and universal building tips. I hope our hobby continues to survive, I would be very sad and dissapointed if it and our magazines were to fade away. I am glad that both mags and forums seem to be doing well, and I hope they continue to do so.

I've seen the kits in person and they are pretty nice. They are not exactly the subject matter I'm really interested in, but I do like the wheels, tires, engine, and photo etch steering in the kits. I'll wait for Michaels or HobbyLobby to carry the kits and run 40-50% coupons. Then they will be worth buying to kitbash for use on streetrod projects.

I just received mine yesterday, it looked like it had been through a paper shredder. But the post office did put it in a nice plastic bag AFTER the fact with an "oops sorry" apology. Does anyone know if ModelCars will replace it? I like to have and keep my magazines in good shape. -

If what you mean by "double event". It is a one day show and it is a 1:1 car show put on by Mopars of Brevard and we are invited to put on a show on the pavillion stage (one of our members is one of the members of the mopar club. As for the classes, they are Factory stock, Muscle car, Custom, Street rod, Rat rod, Import, Street truck, Commercial, Nascar, Nostalgic nascar, Drag racing, Nostalgic drag racing, Lowrider, Open wheel racing, Large scale(1/20,1/16,1/12), Small scale(1/32,1/43), Diecast (has to be modified or customized in some way), and Junior(16 and under). -
Our show was to be held in conjunction with the Mopar show on Saturday 22 Jan 2011,at the Brevard Community College Pavillion. But because of an extremely windy day we had to cancel and reschedule, the wind was blowing the cars and diorama around. The Table Top Cruisers car & truck model show will now be at the Melbourne Hobbytown on US 192 just east of I-95 on 26 Feb 2011 from 10am to 5pm. - Registration is from 10am-12pm - Entry fee is $10 for unlimited models. - There are 18 different classes including a Junior class (16 and under). - There will also be 2 judged theme classes. 1) "The 60's" Any 1960's make or model car, truck or motorcycle, anyway you want (stock, custom, race) 2) "Hollywood Trilogy" Any car, truck or motorcycle from any movie,TV show or series. (eg, Batmobile, Munstercoach,Bond DB3 etc.) Plaques will be awarded to winners in each class. It'll be a great show, hope to see you there.

I've used several different brands and sources of wire. I like the wire from ProTech it is easy to use and bend to look realistic.
-
Wow, your attention to detail is fantastic. Your level of skill makes me want to stick to building snap kits.

Dragula and the Munster coach were designed and built by George Barris.

What is your dream model kit?
58 Impala replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's hard to pick one, I can only narrow it to 2. A new tooling of a 63 Splitwindow and a 71 Impala. -
I bought a 32 Vicky resin body a few months ago, I stored it correctly. But looking at it closely it is slightly twisted. My question is, what is the best way to bring it back to shape?

Great tip for doing wide whites. I'd like to do some on some of my street rod projects. Is that the Xacto knife where the blade rotates?
-
Nice job. I like the 71, my very first car was a 71 Impala. I have collected as many years of Impala kits as I can find, that year has eluded me. Maybe one day I'll score one for a halfway decent price.
-
Very nice job. Did those wheels and tires come from the 32 Ford kit?
-
I just bought a Paasche H single action with three different tips from Hobby Lobby. Used their 50% coupon and got it for $45, nice airbrush - great deal.
