Revell: Stranger Things; Billy´s Chevy Camaro
53_Sedandelivery replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Understand your point Mikos clearly IRT getting both accuracies, but with my time slipping by, I'm happy to take what I can get at this point. I know no replica or kit is ever perfect, but these forum reviews and comments help me decide what kits I want to take on or skip. And thus I've had to learn to either modify the heck out of a kit (which I love doing), make it curbside, live with it, or pass it by. These little changes/improvements to the kit for me are positive, and I'll determine how far I go once I see it in person. As long as I like the firewall, engine and inner fender details, I don't mind the challenge of correcting these roof errors. Otherwise I'll curbside it and happily live with it as is. Either way I'm happy to have a version in my display case until something better comes along, should I live long enough. -
Revell: Stranger Things; Billy´s Chevy Camaro
53_Sedandelivery replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well said! I think that the fender vent can be sanded down a little for correct appearance, and the window can be sanded a little more round, no biggie for more skilled modelers. Revell did correct the fender arches to be flatter on the top unlike the Firebird arches in the 1981 Z28, so Kudos to them! Love the extra hood parts too. My only issue with a lot of older Monogram kits is the cast-on parts in the engine bay. If it takes too much work to correct the firewall and inner fender details, I just glue the hood shut and have a great curbside. I will definitely add Billy's Camaro to my collection, built as on screen appearance (using 1979 GM code 29 Dark Blue Iridite paint). -
Atlantis rolls out ex Revell 57 Chevy Nomad.
53_Sedandelivery replied to John M.'s topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That's a great idea! The 57 Nomad has flat floors without the real car's footwell tubs. I'd use the entire 56 frame and chassis with floorboards and interior under the 57 along with AMT front clip (fenders, hood, grille, bumper). One thing I do love about the 57 is the gas tank with spare tire well. It is a near match for the 1949-1954 Chevy Sedan Delivery tank and spare (I had a 1:1 scale 1953 version). I plan to use this part to correct all of my Revell 53-54 deliveries and 49-52 Jimmy Flintstone delivery kit bashes. That "53 Panel" kit was a favorite of mine, built one each in 2nd and 3rd grade without issues other than having dad cut the doors open. Kit needs redoing with an accurate firewall, inner fenders and floor pan. Hood is too flat in the middle. New stock engine and torque tube would be nice too. -

So! I'm not the only one who thinks that the front end and headlights are a bit square or heavy. I agree that a clip from the AMT body would make this a great kit. I had this kit as the 1980s Hot Rod issue, but tried my hand at turning it into a sedan delivery which never got finished. -

Issue 226 is On Its Way
53_Sedandelivery replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in Model Cars Magazine News and Discussions
Glad to receive my digital issue! Lots of good stuff in there, and as a sedan delivery nut, the Galaxy kit article was awesome. ONE big question...how do I print/save a digital copy of this issue? I no longer have room for paper copies of magazines. I used to subscribe to Rail Model Craftsman, who never allowed digital downloads of the same magazines that you could keep in hard copy. When they were purchased by White River Publishing, they said I could print it out, which turned out still couldn't be done. I read part of one issue, and never read another one for the whole year of my subscription (I never went back). That really tee'd me off about their pettiness. Hopefully that isn't the case here. It is much easier for me to put my research on a screen while building my models than to use a hard copy that may get damaged. -

Convert the 1986 Monte Carlo SS to an LS
53_Sedandelivery replied to Superbird McMonte's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Love what you did with the NASCAR nose--looks like the best way to make an 81-86 version. There is a conversion kit on Evilbay for the 87-88 rounded version already. I really want to see someone make these GM #14058974 "Checkerboard" wheels for the LS! I've attached the early nose LS as well as the '87 wearing the checkerboards.- 11 replies

Another piece of our childhood is going away.....
53_Sedandelivery replied to HomerS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Sigh! Nothing ever stays the same! I toured the Kenner toy factory in the summer of 1980, watching them build Millenium Falcon and Strawberry Shortcake toys. Tried taking photos inside, but none of the film turned out (protecting trade secrets). At the end of the tour, I got to choose between 3 brand new Star Wars action figures or the 18" Alien figure. I chose the Alien...still have it but the box hasn't survived. -
Down memory lane for fun
53_Sedandelivery replied to John1955's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I remember that! Back in '77-ish, a bunch of us in Delmar, Delaware ("The Town Too Big for One State") did the exact same thing. I bowed out when I ran out of models that I was willing to wreck, plus one kid built up an El Camino using a soldering iron...couldn't kill that truck. But the same guy traded me a model for my completed stock Revell '57 Ranchero. He was furious when he found out the body was multi-piece when it blew up on the first hit! I told him not to wreck it! I had a Kenner Smash Up derby set but wouldn't let that crowd touch it. Now I have about 14 sets of them in multiple colors and varieties, guess I never lost the demolition derby bug! -
Love the modified Superstock III wheels. How did you modify them? Thanks.

AMT Movin On Kenworth Announced
53_Sedandelivery replied to steel_tiger1's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
They appear to be "General Tire" tires. I found these exact tires at ST Supply for my Movin On Kay-whopper : Part #T38 1/25 11.00-20 20" General Tire Drive Tires or part #T06 1/25 10.00-20 20" General Tire Drive -
Dodge Ramcharger
53_Sedandelivery replied to Hmann68's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Great job! I love the 1:1 Ramcharger, but the Monogram / Revell kit seems noticeably off in dimensions, especially from the side. Your two-tone paint with a chrome spear completely changed the look of this kit! Instead of selling mine off, I'm going to do the same thing to mine. So simple, very effective! -

Love the build. Getting back into building, this was the first kit I ever had (my dad built it for me).

Looking for a scanned copy of the decals from the Lindberg "Mind Blower" roadster kit. Was one of my first kits as a kid, rebuilding for fun and nostalgia. I don't have the original decals and would have to scan and reprint them if I did. Hence, I am looking for a scan or copy of the decal. Thanks! (I found a photo below, not clear enough to reproduce. Shown for reference).

Hi-yo! I've heard conflicting information about AMT's White-Freightliner COE wheels and tires. 1. From what I have gathered from various sources, the 1:1 rig wore 24.5" wheels, and the wheels in the kit are close to that size. This supposedly applies to this kit, the Road Boss and White conventional, and possibly the Kenworth K-series cabover. As for the Kenworth W900 and Peterbilt conventionals, they are supposed to have 22.5" rims but are actually 20" rims. Can anyone confirm? 2. The rims in my Freightliner COE kit appear to be of the "split rim" type. Not an expert on this older wheel other than they used "tubes". Is this as good as a split rim gets? Need a set for a Movin' On KW. There's a seller on Ebay with directional rims using a Freightliner emblem shaped hole, but they are listed as 22.5" rims. Not sure they would work prototypically or actually on this COE kit. My guess is 1/24 scale directionals from M&R wheels will be the best prototypical wheels for this truck?

Freakin' New Guy!

Thanks to all for the welcome! -
Hi all, joined last week and finally got around to setting up my profile. My name is David, a retired veteran of two military branches, three wars. four deployments. Grew up in Sussex County, Delaware (Rehoboth Beach area), and currently live near Annapolis, Maryland until I can escape back to South Carolina. My current house has a model train room for housing my many hobbies, and after four years of remodeling, I am finally starting to clear it out so I can build models again. As for modeling, I like sedan deliveries, Oldsmobiles, air-cooled VWs, Semi-trucks, 1970s funny cars, 1980s NASCAR, TV & Movie vehicles, Sci Fi vehicles, ocean liners and railroads (N and HO scales). First kit I ever built was the Lindberg Time Bomb roadster back around 1971. I also like slot and slotless racing and collecting 1970s toys such as Micronauts and Kenner SSP Smash Up Derby sets. Will start posting my builds hopefully by summer, and look forward to seeing all y'alls handiwork. BTW, I haven't figured out how to change the background behind my profile photo. Is that feature not working? Same set up as the Model Truck Builder's forum but no button.
