  1. Stay hydrated! I think it’s meant to be a hot one today too!
  2. I wish there was one in NYC! Michael’s sells a few kits and we have a couple of hobby stores within subway-commute-distance but seeing all these bargains is REALLY making me want to have one close by! ?
  3. Not as nice as not sweating to death when it’s still 90 degrees outside and 93% humidity right now! ?? Unfortunately the rest of our apartment feels like an oven as soon as we leave the room with the AC, but cunningly I put it in the window next to my workbench with the vents aimed right at me, so I predict some extensive model-building this weekend! ?
  4. Wow! I can’t wait to see more! Stunning craftsmanship! Beginner brass-worker question - what do you like to use to cut your brass sheet and rod?
  5. What a stunning build! Looks VERY cleanly put together!
  6. We actually wandered around our neighborhood for 20 minutes or so and saw a HUGE display right by our buidling...so we went home and had a pretty good view right out of our window Incredibly, this was on the sidewalk outside ours this morning with a sign saying "FREE - WORKS": Cleaned it up, plugged it in, it works! The super saw me messing with it and came and put the mounting bracket in the window right away so we could start using it and we're all set! Oh wait, this is the "what irked you" thread....well, I guess I had to go buy the super a 6 pack of beers as thanks for installing it. Cost me nearly $10
  7. It's definitely going to be better than our 'bowl of ice in front of the window fan' solution that I'm using today
  8. I've been thinking of this build a lot lately Eric - I keep coming back and admiring the flake you used. Can I ask what sort of airbrush you used to apply it? I'm wondering if I have one that would be able to apply flake too!
  9. I've been in the city for a few years now - the last couple of places I rented had AC units included so I never had to buy one...then I got married, moved in with my wife and she was in the same situation, she'd never needed to buy one before...but now we're sharing a place and we TRIED just using a couple of free-standing and window fans but it's really not working out too well
  10. The humidity and heat in Brooklyn has been pretty terrible too - seems like there's no way to get away from it! It's about time we got an air conditioner, I think...
  11. The T'rantula isn't the only showrod kit with a SOHC...I just started building AMT's Li'l Gasser fuel truck and it has one too. Whether it's a GOOD one or not is up to interpretation - I don't have the same knowledge that a lot of you do but this thread has been very informative and interesting! Pics of my in-progress AMT Li'l Gasser motor below...
  12. You work's always inspirational Dann, thanks for sharing!
  13. Anyone got anything red white & blue to share, for the holiday today? Here's my red, white and bluest build - have a safe 4th everybody, and don't forget to thank someone who serves or has served!
  14. Absolutely! God bless America, and those who serve to keep it free! And don't forget to have a hot dog(ger) or two!
  15. That guy must have some pretty good airbrush control to paint the car with all the chrome on there and not paint over it
  16. We order online and they outsource the delivery to independent drivers - and last week's driver apparently didn't know about them not having bags so he had to bring all our items loose. It was kinda funny seeing the guy carrying two pizzas, then going back to his car, getting the vegetables, going back again to get the ice cream - he had a trunk full of loose groceries. Took him about 15 minutes to unload 6 bags of shopping
  17. My wife buys from them - they deliver to us in Brooklyn for a few bucks, and the savings we make are easily enough to cover the delivery charge. Had no idea they sometimes did kits and stuff though (or is that just in other countries?). I'm gonna keep an eye out for sure - "a gallon of Milk and a Foose F100 please honey!"
  18. Haha, amazing! What a small world! These big rears are SO MUCH cooler than the ones in the current kit box. I kinda don't want to use them because they're so cool - I figured I'd never seen a set before and might never see a set again so I put them aside for something REALLY special
  19. Stunning! The body mods are tastefully done, but really make a big difference and that paintjob with the fades is just gorgeous. Great build!
  20. Looking great Guy! What was the base color? I like that silver a lot!
  21. Yeah, the rears are maybe a quarter-inch bigger than the regular slicks that the ones that came with my eighties-issue of this kit...I put them aside as I figured they might be something rare or cool and they definitely didn't look like MPC put 'em in there:
  22. Ohh, interesting Dave - I have another of these that I picked up on eBay a few years ago and it has a smaller set of black rubber/resin tires and 4 larger diameter ones too, seemingly made from the same material. Maybe they're yours!
  23. Haha, do it! There's a whole sub-culture of people making off-road Miatas! Apparently you need to remove 1/8th of an inch from the bottom of the windshield to make it fit right, but I haven't tried it yet...I'm gonna have to soon tho In the meantime, got the black bits masked on the body ready for paint... ...painted it ... ...and it turned out ok! Had to do it in two parts because the masking was tricky, and it needs a little touch up (including a couple of bits I could only see when I saw these pics), but got it done... I still need to give it a coat of Novus number 1 to bring the shine back, but I didn't want to try painting over so that'll be later in the process. Whilst the paint's drying I foiled those little emblems on the back bumper, added the custom license plate (to commemorate the NA Miata's 30th birthday) and used a little Molotow on the recesses for the side lights: More soon!
  24. Yeah, they're a bit high with the stock suspension I notice A couple of reviewers for this kit noted that it won't fit together properly without modifying the windshield, which is good to know about before I've got it in place for good - I'm going to have a careful look at the suspension pieces too, thanks buddy!
  25. Thanks buddy! Got the body of this repainted and polished out today - I'm still struggling to learn a new painting routine since I lost my outdoor place to spray (unless I go in the street and paint in NYC traffic anyway), but I'm starting to get there anyway: And got some more work done on the engine - installed a dipstick and made a couple of bits that were missing from the kit (actually, short shots on the sprue: It's starting to look like a real engine bay! More soon!
