  1. Congrats @Impalow for making the cover!
  2. This is a super-old thread, but I was researching something...nice engine Steve! Love that realistic weathering!
  3. That's a nice clean way to do it - and more controllable than using a Dremel, or similar.
  4. Looks great - and I enjoyed following your progress on it! Great work!!
  5. I'd love to drive one of these in real life - this one is cool! I like the mods you've been making - nice work!
  6. I think you were right to go with the second paintjob - WAY cooler! Nice build!
  7. Picked up some Renshape-type blocks of material from Amazon, which arrived today. Renshape is a resin material that KINDA works like wood - you can cut and sand it easily, it drills well, takes paint well…but is also kinda pricy. I wanna practice some carving and machine skills, so I got the store-brand stuff to try on some scratchbuilding projects:
  8. I’ve got two of these in my stash to build, sometime - one mint and untouched (with the display stand and gold rope) and one built-up…plus the excellent 3D printed body that has been available for a while. Why I would need to build three of these, I’m not sure, but I will once I’m confident I won’t ruin them. Great article, thanks for sharing Tim! Great tip on getting that distinctive paint color nailed!
  9. I’ve started a couple of these and not quite nailed them…but I figured out what I didn’t like about the first couple of tries and I think I’ve got it this time… Concept is: just a simple little T Bucket. Nothing crazy, just your typical little build…but hopefully a NICE one, with some character. Started out with a square tube frame, front suicide mount and a 3D printed rear member: Body will be the AMT 23 T, sans pickup bed or turtledeck, and the one atypical part I’ll be using on this build will be a set of 36 Ford wheels…mostly because I think they look awesome and I can’t find evidence of anyone using them on a 1:1 before (although I’m sure SOMEONE has): Suspension will be a parts-box unknown tube axle out front with the old Revell Parts Pak leaf spring and hairpins: And rear axle is another parts box part, with another Revell Parts Pak leaf spring: Grille shell is from a junker Revell T bucket that I picked up, radiator is from the same (but chopped down in height a little) and the headlamps are stock Model T (I think?) from the parts box again: I’ll be scratchbuilding an interior for this one, so first job was piecing together a floor: I’ll finish the trans tunnel once I’ve got the engine mocked up and in place, but it drops right in there nicely: Those rear drum brakes are 3D printed and I found some little disks that will work well out front I think…and after a few hours of benchtime it’s already on it’s wheels for the first mock-up and stance check: I’ve been messing with this for the past coupla weeks while we had visitors staying with us, so there’s a bunch of tiny 10-minute bench sessions that have gone into this so far…but our guests left yesterday so it’s time to really dig into this one. More soon, soon as I’ve done more!
  10. Hey Bob! Welcome back!
  11. Hopefully not true:
  12. Even more fun to hear one under an underpass ? IMG_0070.mov
  13. I REALLY hope that’s not true…
  14. Always enjoy seeing (and hearing) an RX7:
  15. Thanks for the nice comments, and useful info fellas…noting a bunch of stuff into my brain for future builds - thank you! We had guests in town for the last three weeks, so I had little sporadic 10-minute periods of time at the bench to get this thing wrapped up for the last few weeks. Most of what had to be done was simple assembly, so I didn’t take a bunch of pics, besides some interior shots before I got the body glued in place: And some weathering on the base to make it look a little less fancy and new looking: And then it was just a case of finishing assembly and doing some light weathering to the finished build: And a shot of it with the last one of these I built…I always kinda feel like I should build a couple of each type of race car I build, so that they each have someone to race ?? Thanks for following along, and for all the helpful comments…I’ll definitely be building more of these so I appreciate all the pointers!
  16. I wanted one of these…but I found a killer deal for 4 of them. Enough parts included (but not pictured) to build at least a couple, with plenty of extras:
  17. God, no Keep doing what you’re doing!
  18. Yeah, we’ve got a gray haze out here in Indiana, and my friends and family in NY/NJ told me it’s particularly bad on the east coast
  19. It would also be an honor to work with Bill, I’m sure ?
  20. We have an engineer where I work who has been in this particular industry for 40+ years - and he’s seen it all, done it all, is no-nonsense and will be brutally blunt and forthcoming with criticism with about everyone he deals with. He has no time for nonsense or people acting the fool or people doing things the wrong way - he’s a real old school craftsman and engineer and he’s someone I look up to a lot. He’s sometimes VERY tough to work with, but I’ve learned so much from him and admire his abilities a lot so I’m really fortunate to get to learn from him - I’d almost pay THEM for the training I’ve received from this one guy. If you get too smart too soon or try questioning something, he’ll cut you down to size in a heartbeat, but if you want to learn you’d be hard pressed to find a better teacher. Anyhoo; we we discussing some of the daily stupidity that occurs in our shop with some of the not-so-good employees who think they know everything and regularly prove themselves wrong through their actions, and I asked the same question as I asked above - stupid people don’t KNOW they’re stupid, so how can anyone ever really be sure that they’re not? His reply? “Just ask me, I’ll tell you if you’re stupid or not ?” ?
  21. Something that concerns me on this subject… Dumb people surely don’t think they’re dumb. No one usually thinks “hey, I’m a real baloonhead”. But also, I don’t think I’m dumb. So…how do I know FOR SURE I’m not dumb? How could I ever know if I was?!
  22. I love that! What a great way of looking at it!
