  1. Definitely the look I'm going for, vintage, mild custom street car and I'm trying to use as much of the original AMT kit as I can. Lately I've done the same with an old AMT '49 Ford, and '49 Merc. Those old kits were actually pretty good! With a bit of finesse they look very good! Here's my Merc, in case you missed it, nosed & decked & shaved (no door handles) :
  2. Total coolness! I'm loving this step by step fabrication!
  3. Steve, I never saw those Pegasus with wide whites, but I still like my tire choice more. I've finally got the scratch built skirts looking good. Paint is "in progress"
  4. Not sure, some Revell kit probably. I mixed these acrylics together to match the body colour, painted the edges to simulate full wheel covers over purple rims.
  5. Okay, for the wheel/tire combo, I found these Pegasus wheel covers on narrow whites, they're 15s but I want to use the wheel covers on 14" wide whites, so......... I rolled up some 600 grit and carefully made the plastic whitewall insert fit the Pegasus wheel covers, which are in fact the whole wheel from Pegasus. I had to cut out some rubber for them to fit the tires, but the plastic whitewall insert hides the sloppy cut on the face. I was more careful on the backs of the tires. The wheels were too wide also so I cut them down to the tire width I'm using. Here's how they look and there are "flippers, spinners, or crossbars" to go on the centers after they're installed. (still in the plastic bag in the first picture)
  6. Thanks David, it IS the kit supplied engine, just fixed up a bit. Using as much of the old kit as I can, finally decided on wheels and tires, not from the kit! I have to make the wheels fit the tires, and I'll post that process up in a bit, maybe tomorrow, BBQ @4 and it's 3:30 here now!
  7. Working on the AMT kit Y block, didn't like the oil filter, so I made one from sprue. Made up a triple carb intake and added a few wires, lines and linkages. Good enough for mostly old kit parts.
  8. Wow, I love that gasser, great build! Both of those are nicely done!
  9. That's cool! Having fun with models, I love it! You wouldn't do it to a real '69 Camaro, but it's a model, meant to be fun!
  10. Still working on this old kit, want to use as much of the original as I can, but I made a few improvements to some old parts. Of course I de-chromed the generator, rad and fan. I spent 5 minutes improving the fan belt and pulleys. I replaced the front springs with some wound thin solder. I sprayed the floor pan white but I'm just brush painting the molded on stuff. I made a driveshaft hoop, just to complete the partial molded on cross member. Going to use the stock rear suspension too, but I've gotta lower that, the front was easy.
  11. Wow Greg, that looks great and I love the way you motor through missing or misaligned parts! The rear cover looks excellent and your grille is genius! Cheers!
  12. Good idea, but I've already made these, and I do like making my own stuff, so I'll stick with them. It's all about having fun, and scratch building to me is so much fun!
  13. Here's how they look installed, the gaps weren't consistant, so I'm trying to fix that, they won't be removed now though, super glued on! I'll fill and re-scribe them.
  14. As promised, pictures of fender skirts. I'm certainly not happy with them yet, and they didn't turn out exactly as I envisioned. But I'll continue tweaking them and learn to like them although I was hoping they'd look more stock. I made them too tall, so they're down lower than I hoped, but I think it'll give a bit of a tail dragger look to my vintage mild custom, street cruiser.
  15. I will not be "crowning" this one! I have thought about using the crown on a Revell '57 wagon though and the glass roof! Just a thought. Spent most of today making skirts for this one, in putty now, so should be shown later or tomorrow. Cheers!
  16. This is the look I'm after! I opened up the grille from Revell's chopped '49 Merc kit. Very subtle but important mod, I rounded the sides of the Revell grille where it wraps around the fenders. Bumper and grille will get Revell chrome spray.
  17. I added the sheet metal in front of the rad, then opened up those large holes and one for the hood latch. I removed those bumps with holes from the bumper pan because I won't use the stock grille which hides them, mine will be open. It looks a bit smoother now and with the hood also smoothed out, I think I can have a custom without being too wild!
  18. Freelance, as always by me! LOL I'll keep it pretty "mild" I like the Merc wagon tail lights that are in the kit, nosed, decked, shaved, dropped, custom wheelcovers, nothing too much changed. Stock bumpers without overriders and I'm thinking of the '54 Pontiac grille from Revell's chopped Merc kit. I'll have to scratch build stock fender skirts. Well, I did fill in the hood. Got it in white primer, looking pretty good already, still needs a bit of tweaking but I managed to keep the center peak. I'm thinking medium purple, white, purple. Tamiya TS-24?
  19. ESPO said: You mentioned some custom body work, is shaving the hood and trunk lid in that? Of course, shaved door handles too! Here's the hood, before, and "during" I'll post after, well, after! Cheers
  20. I want to keep this build pretty simple, but I still need to smooth out under the hood. That IS pretty simple!
  21. Hey all, I'm going to try and build another model! I have rheumatoid arthritis and I had to stop building, but thanks to prescription meds, I'm feeling like I can give it another go! I glued the doors shut on the AMT '56 Ford and bent the vent windows into position with a slice along the bottom of each. I want to sand the body and doors to be mostly flush, but I don't want to fill the side trim with primer, so I masked them off. Also fitted stock headlight rings and sanded them smooth (not Frenched) along with all other mold seams. It'll be a mild custom from the late 50's early 60's I hope!
  22. Looking good! I love the stance and the rims, not to mention the outrageous engine! Fine choice indeed!
