  1. Totally awesome project!!! As far as engine colors, if it was the engine that came in the car, dark blue. Pre-war flatheads were green.
  2. I'm gonna chime in on this one......If I was in charge, I wouldn't really have a problem with the whole rear wheel drive full chassis thing, HOWEVER.....the wheelbase would have to be stock, the body would have to fit STOCK templates, and the engine would HAVE to be whatever is available in that particular body style. The engine could be modified, but MUST run factory fuel injection and the factory OBD II computer, with an approved chip. I lost interest in Nascar 10 years ago when it started getting sissy, but I kinda like the looks of this model. I might have to pick one up.
  3. Lol!! You can always say the engine was swapped out for a '70 model....they WERE blue! Regardless, this is going to be a sharp model when you finish.
  4. Thats looking really good, and a beautiful color choice, but two things......first, I wouldn't really worry about the carburetor being straight, sideways, crooked, upside down, or whatever....with the air cleaner on, you can't see it anyway! And second, You don't really need any emissions stickers under the hood. The only stickers were one on the top left side of the radiator support, and one on the side of the air cleaner. Also....and I hate to say this after all the hard work you've done, but isn't a '69 318 supposed to be red?
  5. Thanks so much, guys! I eventually plan to build a model of my race car and put on a trailer behind the truck.
  6. And yes, it has the 8 track player under the dash!
  7. Ever had 1:1 vehicles that you wish you had kept? I've gotten on this little kick about building models of stuff I used to own, that I wish I had kept....sort of my little way of getting them all back. Back in 1973, I bought a one-owner '72 Chevy Custom/10 pickup primarily to tow my dirt track race car with. The guy I bought it from had put some slotted wheels and wide tires on it, but otherwise it was stock, with a 307 and a 3 speed manual transmission. Since I worked for my dad, who owned a service station/garage, and I was an 18 year old hot-roddin', dirt track drivin' kid, I just HAD to soup it up a little. First I put an extra Muncie 4 speed I had laying around in there, then I put some headers on it...then an aluminum intake....then a cam. Then, during the winter months, I decided to put the 350 from my race car in it...and all of a sudden, my truck was more fun to drive than my '72 Nova SS350 daily driver!!! Oh, it had the high-tech sound system of the day too...an 8 track tape player with TWO speakers. I've always wanted to build a model of that truck, but I couldn't find the right wheels. I needed a set of Arii/Otaki slots with those wide BFG tires, but they are soooo hard to find. Nothing else would look right. When I saw that Alan Raab of Ma's Resin was going to start casting those, I HAD to have a set!!! I could now build my truck!! I started with the AMT Cheyenne longbed kit, and a resin short bed from Bandit Resins. Since my truck was a base model Custom/10, not a fancy Cheyenne, I had to remove all the trim and convert the interior to a standard bench seat. The engine is from the parts box, and the headers are from the Revell '69 Nova. Instead of cutting down the chassis, I used the one from a GMC shortbed stepside kit. I fabbed the rear step bumper from styrene. Paint is plain ol' Testors French Blue lightened up with a little white to match the factory Medium Blue color. The "Custom/10" emblems on the fenders (hard to see in the pictures) are decals made by Joe Schulte at Diecasts And Decals, and of course the wheels/tires are from Ma's Resin. By the way...the real truck had Daytona Sport 60 tires, but since nobody makes lettering for those, I just went with the BFG's....even though there was no such thing in '73. It captures the look of the real one good enough for me, although my ol' shaky hands had a rough time with the lettering on the tailgate . I had a lot of good times in that ol' truck! Its nice to have it back, even if it is in 1/25 scale.
  8. Are those hamsters, or are they gerbils?
  9. Like AaronW, I too am into rescue and lifeflight helicopters. Here is my Trumpeter 1/48 HH-65C Dolphin. This was converted from the HH-65A by using a resin fenestron and radome from Fireball Modelworks. I also added a Cobra Company interior to correct the civilian interior that is supplied with the kit. My next project is the MBB (Eurocopter) BK-117 Lifeflight Heli used by Childrens Healthcare Of Atlanta....after I finish a few cars, though!
  10. If you reach a decision that, based on all the evidence you have, that in the overwhelming majority of cases, certain actions are performed by people of a certain group...is that profiling, or is that deductive logic? If someone walked into a bank wearing a ski mask and hiding something in his jacket, would it be wrong of me to think this might be a issue? Sorry, man. Political correctness is whats gotten this country into this situation, not "profiling". In most cases, "profiling" is nothing more than good police work.
  11. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I'm not saying thats what I believe or don't believe. I'm just saying thats the way it is.
  12. Nooooo, man! I'm not a snob at all!! Ask anybody that knows me! As a matter of fact, I'm a jeans and T-shirt guy, and have been accused of looking like a homeless bum at times! I'm just saying....if you LOOK like a bum, don't be suprised if you get TREATED like one. Look at it this way.....if some guy shows up to take my teenage daughter on a date....if he's wearing gangsta clothes with his pants down to his mid-thigh and underwear over the top....she ain't going out the door with him. Period. I don't care if he's a "great guy"! If I get on the airplane with the Middle-Eastern guy in full Arab garb, yes, I'm gonna keep an eye on him. I'm just sayin....expect to be treated the way you dress! Thats all!
  13. Not to be mean or anything, but if you LOOK like a bum, don't be suprised if people TREAT you like one. Far too many people act like slobs today. If yer loungin' around the house, thats one thing, but if yer going out in public....dress accordingly.
  14. THESE are better!
  15. I agree. Worry about priorities first, work on the project whenever you can.
  16. Theres a finished one up in the "Under Glass" section....you might have to dig back a few pages to find it.
  17. Trumpeter '63 Nova has a nice 194/230.
  18. Looks great, and the paint is exceptional! Might I suggest detailing those wheels and it would look even better!
  19. Pretty cool! My dad ran a garage and I sorta grew up on dirt tracks.

    Fireball 500

I agree, very nice, and very nostalgic too! You did a great job with the paint.
  21. Lay it flat on a cutting board and carefully roll it back and forth with an X-Acto knife.
  22. Lee, I totally suspect that the simple Green you added is what caused your yellowing. I have an airplane model that is white and was clearcoated with Future in the 90s, and has not yellowed at all, nor has any of the clear canopies I've used it on. The basic rule of thumb I've always heard is if the clear you plan on using has any kind of tint to it at all, it WILL eventually turn. The good news is, as Mark states up there, Future is easy to strip...just wash it off with some windex. I seriously doubt the Future itself was bad...I've never seen that happen. My last bottle lasted like 8 years! Lol!
  23. I must agree with everyone else, that is AWESOME! Yes, that is correct. I believe ALL Ford trucks before 1955 were positive ground. A lot of Macks used positive ground too.
