Alclad over plasti-kote
roadhawg replied to trey allen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My guess would be the pressure. You really need low pressure with this stuff, 10-15 psi. That low coming from a spray can would probably spurt and sputter, making a mess. -
Yep, now THAT'S a race car! Excellent job!

This is just beautiful!! Perfect build!

Oh yes! I too have a soft spot for '61 Plymouths, as my dad came home in a brand new '61 Fury when I was a kid. I used to think the tailights looked like cigars! Lol. Very nicely done, Chuck! I love it!

What you are talking about will work ok for something like a roundel or a small sponsor decal, but doesn't do very well for custom lettering. First, printer ink is somewhat translucent, so it's almost impossible to get an exact color match for your border. Second, inkjet black ink isn't really black....it's dark gray, so if you did lettering with a black background on a black surface, it would be very noticable. Trust me. The best way to do this would be to get your artwork the way you want it and find someone with an Alps printer to print it. I use THIS PLACE, who has very reasonable prices and great service. Again...the "colored border on white decal paper" is fine for small stuff, but for a major lettering project, you won't be happy. Hope this helps.

I was just reading about this too, in some other magazine....can't remember the name , but this is really nice. What I like best is it just goes to show you don't need a bunch of high dollar PE stuff or fully wired and plumbed engine to have a very cool model that really stands out. I have a few projects of my own I've been stalling on because I was dreading the engine/chassis detailing. This inspires me to do a few as curbsides. Thanks!!

How can I make tinted windows?

Tamiya Smoke spray paint is the best way I know of. Spray the inside of the glass. The more coats, the darker it gets. -
Scam pulled at Michael's stores
roadhawg replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can't remember where I heard that....I'm sure it was one of those wacko radio shows I listen to. I DO know there's a lot of places that will refuse checks. -

I got the same email from them, and yes, that was very professional. I'm not that worried about it, though. If your card has Visa or Mastercard on it, you're protected anyway. Even a Visa or Mastercard debit card is protected, though it might be a slight temporary inconvienence if they empty your account (they have I think 3 days to put the money back after being reported). Cards and online purchases are by far the safest way to buy anything. If cash is lost or stolen, its goodbye forever. I heard on the radio about some places that are going to quit taking cash altogether. -
Built using the new Bandit Resins body with trim/chrome from the '61 hardtop kit. Chassis/engine from the '63 Galaxie. The baby shoes hanging from the mirror are a pair of 1/48 scale helicopter pilot's feet that I cut off....poor guy.

I agree with this too. If it's really true, think of it as a football team that just lost their star quarterback. They'll still play, they just won't be very effective. And the turban comment wasn't wrong. Thats our biggest problem....the inability to call a spade a spade. They SHOULD have chopped off his head and put it on display....at Ground Zero. Turban and all.

I agree. The news last night was that we had custody of the body. This morning, they say he's buried at see. Dunno..."buried at sea" sounds fishy to me.

History Being Made

I guess it depends. With a hurricane, at least you have time to get out of it's way. With a tornado, you can do everything perfectly, the way they say you're supposed to do, and still get killed. I've been through both of 'em.....don't care for either one. Never tried an earthquake, though....but it ain't on my bucket list. -
Here's my latest 6......a model of a car I actually owned.

Your Shabo Dry Transfer Source
roadhawg replied to Evil Appetite's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know what the deal is with Shabo. Somebody told me about 10 years ago that they were out of business, but if thats true they must've made a zillion sheets before they went out, because I can find them at every show I go to. They're very difficult to find online though. Model Empire keeps 'em listed, so check there. Shabo ain't the only game in town, however. For racing tires, Slixx makes a nice set of Tire Markings as waterslide decals. There's also a guy on Ebay that offers musclecar white letter decals periodically. -

Question for the VW experts....
roadhawg replied to roadhawg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great! Thanks! -
I've had lots of fast cars. My sister had a '69 SS396 Camaro. I rode in my cousin's 440 Dodge Dart. But the scaredest I've ever been in an automobile was in a 1968 Nova that had a 427 in it. I was at the "life flashing before my eyes" stage......

Question for the VW experts....
roadhawg posted a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Do any of the available Volkswagen kits contain a gas tank? I'm gathering parts to build a race car that had one of these in it. Or will I have to scratchbuild one? Thanks! -
Beautiful!!! This is by far the best build of this kit I've ever seen.

Political Styrene Humor!
roadhawg replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, you have my vote too. You are CERTAINLY more qualified than what we currently have. Two words of advice, though.....#1, be careful about giving stuff away for free. After awhile, instead of being grateful for it, people will EXPECT it, and believe it is their basic "right" to such free stuff, and if you get in a bind and can't afford it anymore, they will become belligerant and demand your head. Sounds crazy, but hey, it COULD happen. And #2...better go ahead and round up your birth certificate. Someone might want to see it. What is that tune that is playing? It's weird, but catchy.
