  1. What is it that you're after? If it's better detailed leaf springs than what come in kits, THIS TUTORIAL from my club website shows how to make your own leaf springs...
  2. The most beautiful Ford thats ever been made....the '61 Starliner. I'm working on one myself using the new Bandit Resins body, but yours looks just as good. If you need any detail pics of the engine/interior, let me know....I have a few.
  3. Ironic topic, since I recently embarked on a little project to build a few cars from my past. I haven't gotten around to my first yet, but I HAVE done my second....a '69 Nova 6 cylinder...... My first car, a '57 Chevy 2 door hardtop, is near the top of my "to-do" list. All I have to do is get a few of these other projects out of the way....
  4. Or, if you're just looking for a plain ol' paint chart ......
  5. You mean like this ?
  6. I had the same exact problem when I built my '68 GTX. My fix was to fill that scored groove with baking soda/superglue, the use Future as a barrier...like Mr. O suggested, then prime and sand a few times. Worked great.
  7. ANY clearcoat is going to diminish the look of Alclad. Sorry....
  8. Clear 5 minute epoxy would work well too.
  9. Ohhhh, I feel your pain. They got me down for knee replacement, but I'm trying to put it off as long as possible. Take care, and good luck!
  10. Actually, what he did wasn't really cheating. He was a master at manipulating gray areas of the rules. For instance, the rule book would specify the size of the fuel tank, but said nothing about the size of the line, so he would snake 7/8" tubing all over the car to hold another 5 gallons. The rules would state the ride height BEFORE the race, so Smokey would put balsa blocks above the springs to get through inspection. Once on the track, at the first bump the blocks would break and the car would drop 2". Hey, it was legal when they checked it, like it was supposed to be. Nascar re-wrote a LOT of rules because of him. Smokey actually had a lot of contempt for the ones that flagrantly cheated. Nope, it was full size, but because of a few tricks it gave the illusion of being undersize. The front bumper was reworked to make it taller than stock (to serve the same purpose as a chin spoiler), then narrowed to blend in with the fenders. The rear bumper was narrowed quite a bit too, again, to blend in with the quarter panels. Also, the windows were relocated towards the outside to smooth out air flow. The rules at the time did not specifically state that you could not do this. But the body itself was not 7/8 scale. But then again, I could be wrong.
  11. I guess the only thing I don't like about this kit is the molded in bumper guards.....every 1:1 '66 Chevelle I've ever been associated with didn't have those. Other than that, it's one of my 10 favorite kits.
  12. Sure, why not? This is me, late at night, listening to Coast To Coast AM.... And this is me, winning the "Most Times Entered Without Placing In The Top Ten" award.....
  13. This is a good time to remind everybody to back up your important stuff. You never know when your computer is going to turn into a boat anchor....a virus, hard drive goes bad...even losing it in a fire or something. A year or two ago some of us were discussing back up methods here, and Bill Geary suggested Carbonite. I checked it out and ended up signing up....it's only like $59 a year, and it backs up everthing you do. Well worth it, if you ask me. If you have a lot of research material saved, just think how it would feel to lose it all.
  14. "F"........
  15. Interesting project. Please keep us updated. I don't remember that "roofwork" being so obvious, though, but maybe it's my memory. Smokey wasn't just "big block Chevy" power, he was "engine" power.......he had no brand loyalties whatsoever. He once said that he would build a John Deere if thats what the rules favored. Very colorful character. http://www.canepa.com/inventory/racecar_1/Smokey%20Chevelle/

  17. Well, crud.......thats EXACTLY what I want.
  18. Lol....I wish. I think the avatar is more the result of ex-wives. I must say that '66 Chevelles have a soft spot in my heart too. My late cousin had a black one, and we spent many nights in that car. It was an SS396, but the 396 wasn't in it....we replaced it with a 350. He only got beat once....by a '65 Falcon that came down from a nearby county just to race him. I built a model of it years ago, but I want to do another one now that my skills have improved a little.
  19. Lately I've been trying to stay away from building competition type cars, one reason being I hate assembling those photoetch seat belts. My ol' arthritic hands and fingers just won't bend in the positions required for those things, but I recently started a project that, as bad as I hate it, will need competition seat belts. I saw somewhere awhile back that someone offers those things pre-made, but I can't remember who.....anybody know? Or was I dreaming?
  20. I'll be picking up a few.....at least thats what my 10 year old son says. I've never been much of a police car modeler, but he LOVES 'em, and these DO look pretty cool.....
  21. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARK!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Very nice! I'm in the minority, I suppose, in that I LOVE those wheels on there! They give it a modern look, and the stance is perfect. This is something I would like to go crusing in, for sure!
  23. Lol...I heard that! Back in the late 80s I raced R/C dirt oval, and I've seen 45 year olds jump off the stand and start cussing out 15 year olds for not getting out of the way! Crazy!
