Here I is again! bustin' my butt fo 'ol SKIRLY first thing in the freakin MORNING! IT'S 6 AM SKWIRLY!!! Yeah, yeah, I know--- just shut up and post... Like I beend telling yinz guys, I just do what ol' SWKARLY tells me. He sayd to tub his rear--like this! I knows I's nutz, but what're you thinkin, SKIRWLY? Then, I gotta get some paper, and draw up this here template.......OH, OK... Finally dawned on me (at freakin 6:32 AM!) and took dat template and a hunka Rubbermaid thick stryrene down to the scrollem saw, and whacked out these here inner fender walls for tha' bigass tub of his. Had to file and fit, file and fit, sand and fit, sand and fit, almost had me a fit, but I knewd I'd have no peace until I got 'em in & done. HAPPY NOW, SKEWRILY?? NOW WHAT?? Likem I said.........I just does what he says.........went and picked up the knife and started stabbin it into his 'head' making an opening for ol' SKWIRLY's driver for to beboppin' out of I really started feeling better'n @ coz I really, really likes playin' with the flame I could see ol' SKWILRY was feelin' fine too, now that he got that extra hole in him head Before he let me go to the toity, he made me slick 'im up with a nasty li'l gunner dude. Guess he din't much 'preciate my foul mood wit' 'im this here morning.
-
T'anks Led, but don't be complimentaling me---I just do what SKWILRY says ta do ! I let 'im see your idea......'bout the isnane, road rager squirrel........and he aint done or sayd nuthin since then. Jeez, Led, I don't know if'n ya done hurt him feelings or what!? (it's actully kinda goodly tho, coz he be wearin' me out! I aint worked this hard & long since I retired 2 yearn ago )
-
Somethin' wrong with your pics? I din't see nuthin' wrong with them---guess I had the shakes too! Thanks for the ifno on the slicks.........good idea, that, using 1/24s on a 1/25. Now I gots another good excuse to go to my LHS and spend mo' money
-
Lookin' fine Bernard! Always best to stay with the original inspiration. Who ever heard of a purple rat? A green rat with tubes protruding thru the body--now that's more like it! .......and thanks for takin' care of that front axle--it was kinda distracting, glowing orange & all
-
Really looking forward to seeing that coupe come together Dave. Love the styling on it, and I'm trying to imagine it painted with them whites & wires under it. Got colors figured out yet?
-
Wowser, Jody! Them sure am some SERIOUS slicks ! Wheree'd ya get 'em from? That's lookin' like it's gonna be one long, low, meanie T .

Not sure if'n ol' SKWIRLY 2 is becoming a slavedriver, or just gettin' hisself all excited . What I do knows is I must be obsessing again, coz I caint seem to stop meselfs from workin' on him Grabbed that ruff, upside down, right front spindle and whittled it down & cleaned it up. Slid both spindles on the front axle, pushed the kingpins in, and secured them by heating up the lower ends and peening them over. They aint gonna fall out now. Also made some bushings for the tie rods and figgered ol' SKWIRLY wouldn't mind some 'baling' wire for a connecting rod, soooo I slicked 'im up. Closem up of the axle hanger 'welded' to the frame, and the front axle 'welded' to the hanger. That whole front end aint gonna be supportin' a whole lot of weight-- it'll usually be hangin' out in the air, coz ol' SKWIRLY is a wheelie freak ! High tech weld clamp, holding front end together until 'weld' sets. Soon as ol' SKEWIRLY seen that the 'weld' had set up, he started pesterin' me about getting his body mounted to the frame, so I had to hurry up and figure out how much clearance to give them bicyckle wheels. Ol' SKWIRLY aint real picky about how his 'underneath' parts look---as long as they're there and 'kinda' solid, he'm happy . He done told me that he didn't wanna be gettin' all slammed around when he lets dat big blown VW 4 banger loose, so he said to mount his body on some coils. As usual, I had to fab 'em. Grabbed a hunka brass tubing, and wrapped some styreene round tubing around it, using a candle to heat things up a bit. Ya'll can't see it, but ol' SWKIRLY has got a huge grin on him face, now that I finally got his bod on his mounts. I snucked a look up under SKWIRLY's cab, just to reassure him he were down on all fours .

Here's where I work on my models. Right in my bedroom/studio, which can be good, and bad. Got this old multi-drawered desk at a church rummage sale for $5. Already I have trouble finding stuff in it Felt really strange taking this picture---aint never been this far away from the bench......... Little closer........there's SKWIRLY 2 getting some air. I originally mounted the four 75-100watt light bulbs above the bench there so's I could set stuff on top to heat em up, like tires--so's I could create a more realistic bulge in them, etc. Turns out, them 4 light bulbs keep things nice and cozy when me & SKWIRLY are hanging out together at the bench.

Started the morning with SLKWIRLY's front end, specifically the left spindle. Initially I thought about leaving it all rough, but just like every other build, I get into it. Almost like I 'cast' the spindle (from a piece of SKWIRLY's body) and now I'm 'machining' it. Really noticed it when trying to take pix of the front wheels---all you could see behind them li'l cycle wheels was this big hunka orange plastic. As I said before, in all the cutting I've done on poor ol' SKEIRWIRLY, I cut a couple spindles outa pieces I cut away from his bod. As usual tho, I layed them out ok, but when I heated 'em up and bent them, I made one assbackwards. Here's the cleaned up, whittled down left spindle. The "Weird-Oh" type driver is gonna have his steering wheel linked right into it. Front axle is all styrene tubing, including the 'kingpin' which slides perfectly down inside the bigger size tubing. Didn't really plan on this when I bought it, but......... Finished spindle on left, and 'cast' spindle on right. Here you can see my screw up--putting the tierod connecting hole on the bottom on the left spindle and on the top on the right spindle. Was gonna fix it, but then it wouldn't be quite as unique. Ol' CB do some fine work, eh? Can't wait to get the frame & axles together and get some paint on 'em.

I'm with 'awb' Paul----what more can I add to all the other comments? but WOW! only question I have is: I'm almost to the point with the R&D on my atom reducing machine to where I'm just about to try and reduce myself down to 1/25 scale. Soon as I do, could you pm me with yer addy, and I'll have someone mail 'me' to yer place and you can let me live out the rest o' me days in yer '51? I think I would be very comfy in it

Lookin' good PN always amazes me how huge them slicks are and how little room there is for when they get hot and expand. Love to see this ride doin' a burnout
-
Nice job Mike. Like how you left the hubcap off the left front wheel. Is the blue interior a stock color? Man, that's a nice lookin little kit..........might just have to get me one
-
Glued up another strip o' styrene so's the middle of the axle won't be so thin. I'll cut it down and file/sand it to match the other contours of the axle and probably putty it up.........How crazy is that? Puttin' putty on front axle parts

Let my dentist put a major hurtin on my face today , and after poppin a couple painkillers, I decided it'd be a good time to do some work on SWKIRLY 2 figured I'd close up them big hollow toy slicks, so I grabbed them 1/8 scale 32 Deuce backing plates and tried out the 'styrene' (?) from a 'FOR RENT' sign that I got at my local ma & pa hardware store instead of going to my LHS for 'regular' styrene sheets,(and probably couple hunderd dollars worf of other stuff......... ) They all went together goodly. Hoping all these plastics are compatible Put the whitewalls to the insides FINALLY got that big rearend/transaxle mocked up into place. Still need to fab some plates and weld that sucker to the frame. Took this pic specifically for computer work. Really lookin' forward to scratchin' the engine--kinda unsure about the 'driver' just yet, but probably coz I aint figured out how to go about it just yet . I do plan on havin' ol' SKWIRLY displayed like this and while mocking up these shots noted that more of his body has got to go to get his body UP and keep them big meats down on the track. SKWIRLY 2 on caffiene!! GO SKWIRLY! GO!
-
Glad ya didn't stomp this Dave! Gonna look awesome with paint & wheels & @!!!
