  1. Hell, B! we knows you're OK! From the moment you had your first 'period' rigth here on MCM!!
  2. Wow! That's a pretty cool model, Mark! Different--but cool. Paper spark plug wires! Looks like it is all paper except for the 'glass'? You say 'colored paper'---can you be more specific? like cardstock? or? I seem to remember running across a forum just for paper models a couple years ago. You in? Once again, nice work. Thanks for posting it up
  3. Can anyone shed any light on why at this scale, 'belts' are 'O' rings? I confess my ignorance, and I'm probably wrong to assume this, but surely the 'belts' on this exquisite model aren't prototypical? Surely someone could make 1/8 scale Vbelts. Can't wait to see more of this, and sorry 'bout the 'belt' thing. I've just always wondered .
  4. Pardon my ignorance Bernard, but is this 'transkit' a resin body only? or styrene? and what all comes in the 'transkit'? And, , pardon my insolence, but is "a more graceful and delicate look" part of the period building? I aint trying to be a PITA (seems I just naturally am ),but I don't usually associate the words 'graceful and delicate' with hot rods. Maybe on occaision with a custom rod, but I'm more used to hot rods 'belching' and 'raw power' 'n @ Thanks for all the info--nice to know the story of the paint.
  5. Hey guys, yeah, mo' pics--- seems I done screwed up purty goodly takin' some pics of the SKWILRLY dude without hims head attached, and he been givin' me a really bad time since. Did git some work done on his oily pan & fabbed a starter into position, but he be doin' sumthin' to mess with the pics. Aint sure what....... I'll havta try & make up with 'im........again. I think he wants his pwecious wittle medallion. Why'd I ever quit takin' my meds??
  6. Well, John, looks like you Found it On the Road, Dead ........Now put it back together! Looks mighty fine to me! Back in 1971, my Dad had a '54 or '55 3/4 ton Ford pu that had the same exact kinda paint job ! Love the wood!
  7. Nice li'l hot rod Bernard. You always makes 'em look 'real', if'n ya know what I means. Funny thing about different angles---almost hard to believe these two pics are of the same car This here looks (sorry) almost cute! And I knows about perspective 'n @, but I'd never thought it had bigs & littles on it from this here angle Reduced: 64% of original size [ 800 x 423 ] - Click to view full image Now this here ..........ooohh, I wouldn't mess with this if'n I pulled up beside it
  8. Very cool project Dennis! Boy, do them pics of yer Dad's 40 bring back memories. Did he spray the orange on, or brush it on? I remember challenging/scaring myself when I got a Revell 41 Willy's coz it had 'operating' steering ---boy was that cool when I was able to get it to work! I brush painted it orange and that's all I remember now . Just something about the 'lines' of them late 30s & early 40s cars. Love the stance on this! Looking forward to your version, but I'm kinda preferring your Dad's, fer sentimental reasons I guess That scoop on yours sure seems low profile , guess that's another sign of my age--remembering/thinking that this style scoop on top of blowers are taller, more open than the one you got. Great work on a great project--keep it up
  9. Best keep a close eye on dat PD, Dave ........way it's lookin' now---WOW!---somebody might just come along and....uh, steal it-- well, you know, just take it for a little ride Weird, but knowing your plan to do this all up weathered 'n stuff, it's almost like yer workin' bassackwards ........What a cool 'stage' in the build up of this. Part of me wants to see it go from here into the paint shop. Don't know if'n you ever seen this, but ol' GrampsXrd (sumthin like dat--sorries Bill) did a '40 PD and scratched some letters on it . Took me awhile to find it coz I had to go to West Virginny for to find it, but checkem out Gramps's PD: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...t=0&start=0 Most excellent choice on the wheels! Don't know how you does it with the trim rings, but boy does you does 'em up nice!
  10. Nice stance there Rick, and absolutley love them wheels ! Looks good all black also, whatcha got in mind fer colours?
  11. Well sir, before I'd even make a decide about wheels & tires, I'd get rid of that blue-ness! Man, is that thing B.L.U.E.! Squirt some gray, or maybe brown primer on it and then see how them combos look. I'm thinking it all depends on how 'rod-dy' you wanna make it. If'n just a little bit, I'd stay with the artillery wheels, maybe painted shiny. Otherhows, I'd use the '50 Ford wheels & whites. Love them '40 wideywhites --where's the wheel end and the whitewalls start? Them'd look so fine with some shiny custom paint, not on a beat up, weathered old truck.
  12. This is one very cool looking project! Looking forward to seeing it with wheels & tires. I'm thinking the bottom of the front fenders would cover the frame? and provide you with the rad mounting, and look pretty cool painted the body color as well? Once again, very cool.........
  13. Got back from a ski weekend away from the SKWIRLY 2 dude, and din't hear a peep from 'im , so I got busy doin' some engine work.......... Started with the oily pan fer the 4bangy wangy, gettin' it smoothed up 'n @. Figured I might as well do it up right, so whacked a flange outa a 'FO RENT' sign. Some nice thin & cheap styrrene. Still needs trimmed down a bits, as ya'll can sees from it settin' on the bottom of the block. Actully, afore I tackled the oily pan, I got the other head 'machined' and cut some mo' pushem rod tubers, and....... started resemblin' the head & tubers all togethers, and....... applied some pressures to kinda get everting all squarreled together kinda goodly. Layed out markings fer the intake & exhausted ports (ohboyohboyohboy--mo' machinin' ) Ol' SKWILRLY be puttin' some weight on his behind there....... and, we aints done yet. Still gots to fab up some kinda intake manifold fer under the blower, and headers, magneto, cover plates, etc. Dat 4banger gonna have so many tubers & wires & pipes 'n @ gonna hafta set a BIG gas tank down at the front of the bed so's the ol' SKLIRLWY will have some weight towards the front, so's them li'l skinnies can gets hisself in the right lane Egads! I just thought of a cool place fer a startem up thing toos . If'n all ya'll cares to wade thru a couple hunderd pix of the build, here'm das clinker: http://public.fotki.com/V866/crazy-cars-by-cb/page9.html
  14. Lovin' the look of the front end. Gonna be all one color?
  15. Ok Dave, time to calm down a bit........you's got lots o' assembling to do, and you don't wants to mess anyting up now. We's gonna miss the ol' girl without her wheels & tires. Gonna take us awhile to get used to seeing her all purtied up
  16. I likes the 'poiple' color myself, Dave ...........it's purty! Can't wait to see its new pearly whites tho---
  17. Oh yeah! This gonna be a good one! Nice springs Matt. Looking forward to seein' more pix
  18. Ok, lads & lassies, just a quilky qwirlly update today on the SKWRILIRLY one ---I mean 2! Been doin' some engine work on dat 4banger........ Probably my favorite part ---playin' with the flame! First step in fabbing up ol' SWERKLY's oily pan fer dat 4 bangin' thing. Thar she be! ready fer some sides. Thar she be again! Just checkin' ta make sure it's the right one ... you know: 'Check twice & fab once' All tacked together & ready fer some 'machininin'. Problay oughta put a magnet in there, but don't think it'd attract much styrene filings & cuttings. oy--howdy Flo! yep, I's takin' this ol' SWQUARREL by da horns! aint no swquarily freak gonna push me around!!
  19. Boy, you sure named this'un rightly Bill---it am fer sure gonna be a 'pavement scraper' Dang! Dat frame am low! Nice job on the front end, and them mags totally rock! I's really liking the look of that grille.......sweeeet! You gots any colors in mind yet?
  20. Yer quite welcome, Billy..........and welcome to the forum. WIPs are "work in progress" and you be findin' them here "On the workbench". Checkem out the rods similar to yourn. Even go back a few pages. Lotsa great rod builders here, and you's sure to see some ideas fer droppin' yer frontend. Hope yer black Chebby is runnin' goodly for ya. Lookin' forwards to seein mo' o' dis here thuddytwo.
  21. Dat framework's lookin' goodly so far Bill. Can't wait to see some mockups with the body & wheels. As fer lowerin' the front, do ya some cruisin thru some the WIPs hereabouts, some nice 'Z' jobs and scratchbuilded frames. Should help ya out. Dat Chebbelle your 'actual' car? Looks nice.
  22. Hey 84! Glad we could hep ya out! Letr me knows the correct spelly of the SKIRLSWIRTLY's name-- I has enuff trouble wit him as it is. Mebbe if'n I can call 'im by his 'real' name things'll go a li'l better for me. I haint beend sure if'n he beend pissed or just messin' wit me. He be kinda quiet last few days, ever since he heard dat me & Debbie is headed fer Salamanca, New Yorks for ta do some skiiing & @. He just gettin' some o' what he been dishin' out ta me. Mebbe some times away from each other be a goodly thing. See dat!!?? Ol' SWKWIRLKLY gets me so riles upped dat I caint be seein straights--t'anks fer the remind on them leaky tubes 84. I'm imaginin' dere gonna be a puddle unnerneath 'im.
  23. Thanks B. Aint sure yet just what the final paint gonna be---ol' SKEIRWIRLY been 'poppin' quite a bit alreadys. Yep, that Duplicolor stuff is quite the stuff, but the SKWIRRLS's gonna hafta be alot nicer ta me before I gives 'im any gold. Yeah Led, the SKLWIRLYSTER just like one dem rebellouss teenager, but once he got his paws in dem sneaks he done seen I aint quite ass bad as he were thinkin'. Dat 4 banger gonna be one free formy plumbin' nightmaare- already had young Bill from E&A's Pllumbing out to do a scope & diagnosistic. Gotta try and not hideaway the Rubbermaid-- SWKRILILY's go juice tank and go-go NOS tank gonna be hangin' in dat area. Might keep a close eyeball on yer '39 coz him been talkin' bout how mucho he like yourn system ya whipped up.
  24. Another day, and a little closer to a SKWIRLY resolution to this here buildem up. Spent some time some time ago, some time, and sprayed SK2's wheels with the DupliColor Chrome. Fantastic stuff, if'n I says so myownself. Pretty much 4 coats of the silvery stuff on all, catching each of the 4 quadrants. He even had me sprayem up his blingy dingy thingy......... boy, I don't know 'bout that. Started working up the heads fer the 4banger. Started out with a big hunka stryene, chomped it all up til it weres nice & soft like, then formed it into this here block. Nah, don't you young'uns be doin' that! Actully its sheet styrene cut & glued up into this here cube shape. Seeing how the head sizes up agin ol' SKWIRLY's finny cylinders. Now to build up another, lay out exhaust & intake portholes, & maybe some reinforcing rods, head on down to the power tool room to do some drillin' & millin'--OH Yeah! The ol' boy just loves posin'......... He just one big happy sqwirrlly li'l dude, aint he? Don't look so down SKWRILY! You's a FUNNY, not a towtruck. Ok, I's outa here..........Later
  25. Excelllent postings Dennis! Love how you use the colors! Coolness---how you got all them parts in different colors. Aint no mistakin' your assemblies! Mockups lookin' good. IMHO, I wouldn't make any decides on that tarp until lots other stuff has been done
