Welcome PN Ya'll got same story lotsa us have. Dat hurt to be reminded of "Got rid of a lot of stuff years ago and wish I hadn't." Ooooh I knows I done did the same. Man what I could have now if'n I hadn't done dat. Anyhow, seen yer p-s 69 Dart and just had to check it out. First car I financed was a used '69 with 318 automatic on the console. Loved to drive dat thing in the snow--usually always going sidewise . Got to see some drunk whip outa the right lane while we was waitin on a left turner in front us, and rearend us in dat Dart. Still drove it tho, even with the rear end up in the air like a demoderby ride while waitin for the check from the insurance company until some county cop told me he'd give me a ticky if'n he seen it on the road again. Lovin the look of your Dart so far. Lookin forward to seeing mo' of it here, and finally 'Under Glass'. Once again, WELCOME, and have fun. Later, CB
  2. Holy shamoly K! How can ya sees anything 'up top' when yer jumpin arond like dat!??! Go man, Go! Dat's one way cool avatar K! T'anks fer the 'couraging words
  3. Started messin with SKWIRLY's rear end, or soon to be transaxle, coz I'm to the point where I am wanting to start fitting the body to the frame and vicey versa. This here rear end is outa my big 1/8 scale '32 Deuce parts box. Some parts were built up, and this was one of 'em. Wound up tearing the whole rear end apart coz the wheels & meats were on there and I couldn't figger out how to get them off. Finally had to break the axle tubes and found freakin nails inside ! Pretty cool way of attaching the wheels to it---shoulda read the instruction manuel what came widdit, but........ Figgered I'd dechrome the thing and was really suprised to see the almost clear stryeene stuff. Andyhows, got them nail 'axles' outa there and got to gluing it back together today so's I can place and weld it into the frame. Looking forward to start scratchin the big bad blown VW 4 banger and hookem it up to this here.
  4. Thanks for the encouraging words Dave! "It's all the same, but just a little different" How true! Have to sharpen up the hacksaw........
  5. Interesting Dave. I do gotta say I can't see it workin', but you do gots that magic goin' on. I guess to me a '55 is a '55 is a '55. Will be interesting to see what you do with it. In the meantime, gotta question--you say you got a couple real nice '55 diecasts that you're gonna use emblems, etc off'n. Is the body we're seeing here a diecast? Just wonderin' coz I got me a 1/18 diecast '58 Chevy conv that I've thought of doing some mods on, and was wonderin' if'n anyone has done any cuttin and puttyin' on a diecast? Had this crazy idea of making it a halftrack conv
  6. Finally getting around to tackling the front axle on this here wide-trackin '37. As usual I thought of scratchbuilding a working one, maybe someday when I get a soldering iron and make 'em outa brass tubers. Decided to try this route, using the stock axle that came with the kit, but it is now too short, so.... (approxiametely 3000 words follow ) Ran out of styrene sheets, and haven't been able to make it to my LHS... (actually, I'm kinda afraid to go there---can't control my spending ) so found some Rubbermaid drawer storage boxes which I've used before. Nice heavy stuff, a full 1/16" (.060") thick. They come in a few different sizes and for about $2-$3 you gets a goodly bit o' styrene (?) .......well, it's plastic of some kind I'll give this a couple days to set up good and start cutting and patching it together, then work on getting it in place under the chassis.
  7. ski trip cancelled due to too much snow ........story of my life. oh well, gives me more time with SKWIRLY 2! started cleaning up his nose cleaned up the corners on his bed front panel added a hunka styrene round tube for windshield post mo' jpgs asap
  8. Oh Man, Mike! that's one killer fade job!! Wowser!! You say your pix are a little washed out? I'm liking the paint on this shot a lot! You might look into putting your camera on manual and see if'n you can adjust the exposure. My little Canon A580 has a feature where you can adjust the exposure for just such times. You just hit the 'OK' button and all the adjustments come up, and when you adjust the exposure (lighten or darken the shot) you get a preview in the screen. Press 'OK' again, and shoot.
  9. Looking really good for first attempt, Anthony. Love the free form fogging here--looks like dat Mopar just drove thru a wall o' green flames Don't know if'n Russ talked about 'complimentary colors' in his how to, but a bit of FYI: in the color spectrum, most colors have a 'complimentary color', a color that 'compliments' another color. Basically meaning that the complimentary color makes the other color 'pop' more. Red is the complimentary color for green, blue is the c.c. for orange, purple for yellow, black for white. Might think about laying down some red, just a hint over the black before laying down the green flameys---for another flame job. This one looks great as is. Easy to over do it. Maybe later, with a lot of practise, you could go back in with the 'flame' stencil and shoot a bit of thin red or purple in the roundy parts around the 'flames'--that'd really make the green pop, if that's what you'd want. You could also do that with the black. Hope to see more flamin from ya in the future. Yer off to a great start!
  10. Oh wow, Dave! That sounds awesome! Wish I coulda seen dat stuffs.........but then I'd be almost 80 now.......... My boss at the Amoco I worked at in the early 70s had a cherry 69 Charger that I had the privelege of washing and waxing a few times. Maroon or burgandy with the black vinyl top & interior. He sold it to some cutey from outa town, she brought it back for an oil change, and I trashed a tie rod end trying to get it up on the 2 place lift-- them torsion bar front ends were murder to try and take up on that lift--slipping and sliding all over the place. She got the grease, oil, & filter........and a front end alignment too! Yours is looking very goodly---them edgy panels are just the trick
  11. Just got back from LedSled's garage, checking on his awesome 39 build, and I see I made 'Ohana' !! Now what do I do?
  12. "Now that's one freaky ride ..." Well, duuhhhh, Doc Dubois! I's a freak, so....... onkly stands to reason dat ol' SKWIRLY be freaky Ol' SKWIRLY am restin' comfy like next to me bench T'anks fer the gluing my fingers together idea, to try and impress Debbie, Flow I think she'd like dat! and yeah, Led, aint beened postin, coz me OCD got me in a tirtyseven chebby and then Debbie called, and then.... uh..... can't seem to rememembmer, but I'm just waitin for me OCD to kick me in again---dat's the only way I know is NORMal Long live SWKIRLY 2!!!
  13. I'm really diggin the stance you got here........of course, it is sittin pretty in Cragars, so....can't go wrong
  14. A most excellent buncha postings thanks to DamnCranky, Clay, and Ryan. T'anks guys. We gots to see some dem good ol' rods again, and FINALLY DC's secret photo backdrop (altho I thought it would look more foggy? out of this wordly? kinda just floatin' there? )
  15. Howdy Dave, "A Donk in the weeds" Me like that, Dave! and yeah, it is pretty wild. I'm having fun working up concepts. Nice that we can do that in this scale--results are probably a lot more attainable thataway. Probably my favorite part of this here forum is seeing all the cool stuff others build, and being inspired to try and do something similar. Nice to know I may have inspired you to build one like this, but just remember, aint no fenders to hide them big wheels in! Gotta use "the wheel, the whole wheel, and nothing but the wheel" Thanks for watching, and the kind words.
  16. Lookin' fine, 'Stancemeister' Just lovin' your framework/suspension imagineering ! A 'two tabbed frame'! This would so out of this world cool to build 1:1, and then, to jump in and rev dat Caddy! Talk about rockin' & rollin! I can just see the body & frame twistin to one side when all that torque strains against that suspension!!! Can't wait til you paint that front axle ......
  17. Don't be givin' away all yer secrets Virg! but thanks for enlightening us Them skulls are lookin' way cool, all drybrushed just so..........whatta ya think about little red L.E.D.s in the eye sockets ?
  18. Got inspired some time ago, after probably a couple years of walking past the diecast 1/18 scale 58 Chevy conv I had sitting on top of a desk. It had these great stock (?) hubcaps and wide whitewalls on it, and finally one day I looked up under the skirts to make sure there were 2 whole wheels under there, and seeing they were, I kinda lost it! I had wondered how them cool lookin wide whites and chrome & red caps would look hangin on a 1/25 scale 30s era body, so I got a '39 Ford sedan, a '37 Chevy coupe, and a '32 Ford coupe outa my stash and mocked em all up. Liked the Chevy the mostest, so I started on it: Didn't look this good, or bad , in the initial mock up, and this is after I've started on the frame, engine, etc and at this point I was working on axle placement. The rear is pretty much set, and the front aint gonna be this far back--just thought I'd let ya'll get a chuckle More chuckling! although I wasn't laughing the nite I was shooting these pix because I was having female problems and couldn't think straight. I realized I'd taped the dummy front axle on upside down, and figured I'd see what it looked like as a half a donk? Just to be sure, mind you. Calmed down, took the dummy front axle off, taped it back on correctly, moving it up under the rad, slid the wheels on and started shooting. I think it looks much better with the longer wheelbase. This shot reminds me of when Chevy first started promoting their SSR pickup. Just about every promo picture I saw of the SSR was awesome. When I saw one in person, I was very disappointed. This here 37 is kinda the same---some views are really cool looking, and some are better not seen. Did some 'painting' on my computer, remembering I have a can of flat blue primer in the cupboard. I'm planning on making it as a stock 37 coupe with all the moneys spent on the wheels & suspension, axle, mods, but a little left over for some paint. Don't know that it'd be very realistic in 1:1, but nowadays I'm thinkin it could be possible. Thanks for looking, and if'n you wanta see more WIP pics, here's the link: http://public.fotki.com/V866/37-chevy-rod/
  19. I gotta chime in on the kudos for your presentation as well Virg. Superb photography! Almost looks like you're PhotoShopping backgrounds in your shots. Another thought comes to mind tho, considering your builds: Looks like you are actually living in another dimension! hence your awesome creations!
  20. Bernard!? You OK? This is our 'period correct' Bernard, right? Well, whatever's goin' on with you, I'm loving The Tube Rat!!! Specially them plug wires standing up all proud like that! Gotta incorporate that into the build somehow aint the computer great for workin up ideas?
  21. Looks, and sounds good, to me, Rob. I specially love the droopy snout and can't wait to see it with portholes
  22. Lookin XCELLENT, Jody! love them slix, love the proportions, the frame work---love it all......... and it aint even all there yet!
  23. aint got no problemo with the glue fumes, Led----it's that fresh air what's gittin to me Flow? Dat you? Is this me? Where the hail am I? Things're kinda skwirly........... . Sorry dude, yer gonna hafta wait a few days. Me and my girlfriend are goin skiing. Ya'll might wanta say some prayers fer me, coz I tend to get hurt tryin' to impress her
  24. Glad you're ok, Clay. Years ago I had an almost identical incident . Wasn't happily married tho, like you are. Never was in the service, boot camp, etc, but growing up, I did sit at the far end of the dinner table, as one of 6 kids. My dad was a school teacher back then, when teachers didn't make any money, and there were even a couple times when we didn't have any food. My brother sat caddy corner to my Dad who sat at the head of the table and that's where the platter of food was. I had to eat fast so's I could get done before my bro, so I could ask for more. Had no problems for many years, but when my first marriage started getting really stressful, I started having those incidents, getting food stuck, and either having to wait for it to go down itself, or puke it back out. The one night, she had made chicken, and I'm pretty sure it was Friday night, and I was in a hurry to get done and down in the workshop, so I was wolfing the chicken down too. Probably got a piece same size as yours stuck and it wouldn't go down or come back out. Figured I'd just try and go to sleep and maybe it would slide on down, but ate a whole bottle of TUMS, and got a little sleep. No change in the morning--Saturday, so I drove myself to the ER. The nice nurse told me to drink some kinda stuff, but like you, I told her, "Honey, I can't swallow! understand? I can't freakin' swallow! You better give me something to spit in, coz I CAN'T SWALLOW ANYTHING!". Doc finally checked me out, doped me up good ...(REAL good---felt like I was in Pa and San Diego at the same time ) then he and a couple cool nurses, stuck this big cable lookin thing down my throat. It had lights, camera, and a claw on it! He grabbed some of the chicken and pushed some of it on down, taking pics the whole time! Stupid doc tells me what happened while I was still all doped up, nurses had a pool going on what kinda chicken it was, and best/worst part was that my (then) wife had to drive on icy roads to come and get me. Wonder if'n thats why she divorced me? Anyhow, turns out my esophagus was a little smaller than normal, which I found out is pretty common. Had a few more trips back to get it stretched out a bit, and did learn to eat slower, and was especially careful with certain foods, like rice which if'n I tried to swallow too much at once, just turned into a big ball of paste that stuck for sure. That was a long time ago, and a lot of alimony ago as well. Learned a lot of lessons since. Hope you don't have any more problems.
  25. Greetings, fellow styreney dudes SKWIRLY 2's takin' a nap right now, so I be takin' a wee break to postem up some WIP pix. SKWILRY just loves havin' his belly rubbed Started framing up his frame. No idea where it's goin' from here Close up of one of the headlight housings, cut from my bro's ham radio antenna. SKWIRLY 2 on a stick. Lookin' a li'l cross eyed Just doin' a li'l more plastic surgery on SKWIRLY 2's face. Kinda a grafting of a hunka his rear end onto his face So far, the transplant is successful---no rejection as yet This was a tense moment---ol' SKWIRLY came to while I was workin' on him-- guess I didn't give him enuff novacaine SKIRWLY 2's right headlight. Gonna leave the lense unpainted--I think, he might have other ideas tho Mucho t'anks to Mitch O'Connell, the artist who drew this here speed demon up, (from "car culture Deluxe" mag). I did change him a bit--don't wanna infringe on Mitch's stuff, a fellow artist. Anyhow, thanks Mitch, this just may be the hardest (?), and yet the most pleasant part of this build, coz ol' SKWIRLY 2 says he wants a driver. Aint sure how I'm gonna fab him, or outa what , but I'm pysched.........or pyscho. Maybe a li'l of both. oh yeah, for mo' WIP pix, startin with the 'late' SKWIRLY bug , clink the link: http://public.fotki.com/V866/crazy-cars-by-cb/
