I'll give you 200.00 to build me one! You can even leave off the suspension and wheels/tires! I am really wanting to build an East spread tri axle with the first axle being a pusher. The shape of the verticle supports on the sides of the bed are holding me back. How did you make yours? Do they have the 30 degree (approx.) sides on each upright rib?

Ahhh, I see! I'll try it over gray primer then and see how it looks. Thanks Ken!

Thanks Gabriel, yea, cost is not any issue as I have had this paint for a long time now and need to use it anyway. I'm just trying to achieve the best looking aluminum appearance.

Hey Ken, thanks for the info. I am planning on using Alclad "Aluminum", part number ALC 101. I know to use the Alclad "chrome" when i'm trying to replicate bright shiny chrome. Thats not what i'm trying to do at this time. I am painting some wheels that, in real life are dull, unpolished aluminum. I am concerned that if I spray the Alclad "Aluminum" paint over gloss black, the final finish will appear too shiny. I am curious as to how the Aclad "Aluminum" looks when sprayed over a flat base such as flat gray, flat white or flat black?
-
I have plenty of the chrome, four jars. I know it needs to be sprayed over gloss black enamel perferably with clear shot over the black before spraying the Alclad chrome. The wheels i'm painting right now though are the "never been polished" looking aluminum wheels, not all oxidised and tarnished, just not shiny.

Hey Harry, I already have the Alclad, bought it years ago and need to use it up. I have also heard that the Alclad is more durable as far as not rubbing off when touched.

Hey guys, sorry for so many questions on Alclad but i'm about to use it for the first time and want to get it right. I know your supposed to spray the aluminum over gloss black enamel but i'm not wanting a shiny aluminum finish. I am wanting a dull aluminum appearance. Has anyone here sprayed Alclad aluminum over grey primer, flat white or flat black? If so what kind of results were obtained? Thank you in advance for any help.

That's some really nice scratch building Codie! Turned out really nice! -
Jamie Rahmoeller mastered that RL700 hood and Bobby sold the casting rights to it to Spauldings without his (Jamie's) permission.

AMT BIG RIG SET Combos....How many?
Ben replied to ZIL 111V's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Oh man, don't get me started on this subject!!!! The very first sets were called "Truck N Trailer set", not "Big Rig set". The Big Rig sets came along later. I currently own one of the rarest, the Ford LN8000 and auto transporter set. I had the Peterbilt (T500) and reefer trailer but sold it along with my North American Van Lines set for 1700.00! I kid you not! Theres a guy that had every single set except those two and made me an offer I couldn't refuse! The North American Van Lines was the only set to include a model (stepside GMC pickup) in the corner "fill in" box which was normally just an empty box. There were rumors of a set that had the Watkins Kenworth with the pup trailers but i've never seen that one. I think the pictures of the sets I sold may still be in my picturetrail albums? www.picturetrail.com/lotso They would be in the pics of the model kits in my sons room. -
Whatever Happened to......
Ben replied to 7000in5th's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hey David, that is a really nice build of that transtar!!!!!! The Eagle graphics are being produced in 1/25 by Brad Johnson. His website is www.modeltrukin.com He did a really great job reproducing the eagle and scripts! My master for the sleeper is being cast right now and i've also reworked the the wheels from the 4300 kit to much more accurate Alcoa's with machined aluminum acorn lug nuts and center hub covers for the masters. -
I agree! Some tech info on the 4300 would be great to have!

LOL, I was thinking, what??????? I know I remember seeing a steering wheel in my original Scout kits?????? Then I realised you meant front wheels that are steerable. LOL

Thanks guys these are exactly what I was looking for!

Does anyone know of a site that shows the different Alclad paints side by side to show the differences in the shades? I know what the chrome looks like but i'm wondering how polished aluminum, aluminum and white aluminum look side by side. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
-
Hey Chris you could also paint the parts with various shades of Alclad for a more realistic look. In any case, I would suggest removing all the chrome parts you intend to use from the trees (sprues), clean them up, soak them in bleach, Westly's Bleach White or oven cleaner to remove all the chrome. From there you can paint or replate them.

Tyrone Malone's Papa Truck KW FINISHED
Ben replied to bitner's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
This is not my build but I made very accurate wheels for the Tyrone Malone transporters. You can see them here: www.picturetrail.com/lotso Look in the folder titled "wheels I make" or it might say model truck wheels, I forget which. LOL
