  1. Thank you, Nick. It's cute little car.
  2. Thanks Mike. I ordered a couple of them when I saw the re-release. My neighbor had a pure stock Henry J when I was a little kid. If I would have known then . . .
  3. I didn't want the kit build gas coupe so I tried to make this little Henry J into a street machine. Headers are made from solder and then I drilled the collectors and added a streetable exhaust system. The interior is flocked, a set of resin seats from Crazy Scale Auto Parts, and added extra support to the roll bar. A large rear bumper was substituted for the wheelie bars. Wheels & tires came from the parts bin. Finished in HOK candy wild cherry that was wet sanded, rubbed out with Novus #2, and waxed with The Treatment Model Car Wax. This was my first attempt at throttle linkage - I have a ways to go.
  4. Soooo many issues. I'm thinking of compiling everything and making up a checklist in MS Word with several copies kept near my workbench. Anyone interested in a copy when it's done? Can I post a Word document here? If so, I don't know how. I'm serious about the checklist. I think it would help me remember these issues so I know to look for them.
  5. I'll be able to sleep tonight. I checked the mailbox and there was #159 in pristine condition. On seconf thought, maybe I won't sleep 'cuz I'll be reading the new mag again, and again, and again.
  6. I use only wet/dry sandpaper that I get at Lowes or the local auto parts stores.
  7. Oh great!! Now the rest of us won't be sleeping good until our copies get delivered.
  8. I have your email with the Model Car Builders of Florida, Don.
  9. Alright - I give up. Who's Alex? Evidently a talented resin caster. How about a website for him?
  10. Super details on the engine, Don. Looking good.
  11. I think I'm guilty of all the above - especially the tires, Eelco.
  12. I was hoping we'd hear from you, Don. Scale doesn't matter - we're a car/truck club. Just make sure you bring that stage coach build. Okay? The August meeting is going to be on the tense side. We have business to take care of(officers, dues, name, logo, membership applications, bank, club alliliation, and more) before the fun stuff.
  13. Hobby Lobby in Ocala, August - November, 1st Saturday, 10am. December we might hold a meeting in Orlando or Jacksonville.
  14. You put a wash on the cooling fins. Excellent.
  15. You guys are killing me here. I love reading these tales. I think my wife, Marcia, of 10 years is the best because she doesn't come out to the shop and doesn't ask how much I spend on my hobby. She did say likes the color on the '51 Henry J I'm trying to complete.
  16. Ocala seems to be a little to the left coast to me. I'm in Citrus Springs (SW of Ocala) and it takes me almost an hour to get up to Gainesville but I don't take 75. That's a very nice map, Brian. Florida has MAGS and Table Top Cruisers but they're not local to the Ocala area. This new group plans to be active and try to keep people aware of our hobby. We have an IPMS chapter in Ocala but they're way into the planes and boats. Several shows take place down here during the year - Jacksonville, Gainesville, Melbourne, Tampa - and are organized by the above named groups. We almost had our meetings at Big Daddy Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing but we would have had to meet outside on his patio. Very reluctantly, we had to say no. Sometimes it gets humid down here and not much fun to sit outdoors. Sure would have been something to have a model car/truck club meeting at Don's museum.
  17. Geoerge - before I even think about putting on primer, I sand the parts with 1000 grit and then wash thoroughly with Dawn, air dry, and prime.
  18. Ocala is towards the west coast. Where are you at in FL?
  19. Love your color chices. Nice build.
  20. Now I see. It's not a weight but an identification collar. I use high speed drill bits in my Dremel and they have the same size shank as the bit. They're tiny bits that come in sets of about 20 in a little case. Micro Mark has them but that place is expensive.
  21. Super nice looking buggy, Dave. Now you make me really miss my IMP.
  22. Several of us members of the Model Car Builders of Florida in the Ocala area are trying to take the present internet club and start a face to face club. We'll be meeting at the Hobby Lobby, 2400 SW College road, Ocala, Fl 34471 on August 6, Sept. 3, Oct. 1, and Nov 5, 2011 at 10:00am. All attendees are encouraged to bring a build or WIP.
  23. The one with the gear under the skull looks really good.
