Thanks guys. I just keep plugging along trying to improve with each build.

I've added some items - bucket seats S17, cone air filter AF19, and an alernator ALT1 to my list of items. These latest parts are molded from the 1971 Duster kit. You can see everything at http://s544.photobucket.com/albums/hh330/IMcrazyjim/Crazy%20Scale%20Auto%20Parts/ or just click on Crazy Scale Auto Parts below.

It was GREAT, Rob! Lots of terrific builds and I was able to meet some wonderful fellow model builders - like Fatkidd (who had several builds on display and earned a spot on my hate list because of his fantastic paint jobs). The Dodge with true flames, Chevelle station wagon, a '49 Merc (I think), a truck with a ribbon going around it, and a couple of others. Several of the dioramas caught my eye and that's why I took pics of them. I love the one with a builder at his bench and then Cadillac cooker was terrific - even had burgers & dogs on the grill with paper flames. You going to the Southlandz Moel Car Swap Meet on May 1 at the Pinellas Park Auditorium? I was going to try and make it to sell some of my resin, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen for me.

I loaded the pics I took at the MAGS Sunshine State Challenge yesterday in Gainesville. The model show was part of the Billet Proof 1:1 show in Gainesville. MAGS provided a bunch of snap fit Corvettes for the younger crowd to put together right then and there. I thought it was an extremely nice gesture on MAGS part, and I think the kids enjoyed putting a model togerther. Way to go MAGS! Here's the pics; http://s544.photobucket.com/albums/hh330/IMcrazyjim/Sunshine%20Challemge/

Flooring in Model Area
crazyjim replied to iBorg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My model building area is in a steel building with a concrete floor. Most of the floor has been painted with the special epoxy paint and paint chips added when wet. The actual model area (10' x 20') has been tiled with vinyl asbestos tiles. I put 6 or 7 coats of floor wax on the tile. Most dropped parts are easy to find, but there is a wheel down there somewhere that I haven't found in weeks of searching. -
How many car/truck modelers?
crazyjim replied to Erik Smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We Da Big Kahuna to talk to the Census Bureau and get the question added to the next census. -
Congratulations on the wonderful pics of your engine bays! All of you that posted pics have been officially added to my hate list. I don't really hate you, it's just that you guys are detailing at a level that I haven't been able to get to yet - but I'm working on it. Thanks for posting the pics.

I was able to get a Revell Hemi-Hydro at the Billet-Proof swap meet yesterday. Another vendor had a '57 Ford, '36 Ford coupe, and a '26 Ford sedan delivery. He wanted $10.00 each. I offered $20.00 for the 3. He wouldn't budge. I went to $25.00 and he still wouldn't move. So I walked away. Also recieved a Magnificent Seven for my recently posted '36 Ford roadster "Under Glass" at the MAGS Sunshine State Challenge.

There used to be a kit you could buy that had brick mix and template. You painted a basecoat of whatever color you wanted for the mortar lines, let it dry, apply the self stick template, and slop on the brick mix. Whn dry, just peel off the template. I built a scale model of the Veterans Memorial we built in Winfield, IL using the stuff. Can't remember the name of the stuff. Sorry.
-
That doesn't sound too good, Don. What's the doc going to do for you? Want me to take of your kits until you're feeling better?
-
What to do now? =/

Send her packing and get the kits you want. -
Fantastic, Chris. What is the source of those wheels, if I may ask?

Wow! Thanks for the positive input. It's Revell's '37 Ford, DiscoSpud. I plan to be at the Gainesville show, Neal. Hope we can meet up. I'll PM my cell phone to you.
-
Thanks guys. I took my time with this one and I'm happy with it. Hope the judges will like it too. The '37 is one of my favorites - maybe I'll try a chopped top on the next one. Yes, the tag is to remember Vietnam Veterans. I put one on every one of my builds.

This might be my best effort ever. The body was primed with Plast-I-Kote black sandable primer. Then I put down 2 coats of HOK wild cherry candy, 1 coat of clear that I mixed some Perfect Pearl into, followed by 2 more coats of wild cherry and then 3 coats of clear. This is the first build I ever wet sanded and polished. It came out pretty good. I did some other work like recessed license plate, frenched taillights, polished aluminum tubing exhaust, big & little Pegasus chrome Ts with my casted Brembo brakes, wired & plumbed engine with transmission and oil dipsticks. The air filter is my casting. I removed the center post from the windshield and rear window, and also removed the side posts to clean it up a little. Now I'm ready for the Gainesville show on Saturday.
-
Thanks fellas. If I had more time, I think I would have tried to widen the fenders and put a set of Pegasus wheels/tires on it. There's a show Saturday and I wanted to complete this and another build for the show.

Here's my '36 Ford Roadster. I used HOK stratus blue as a basecoat and then several coats of HOK oreintal blue, and then some clear. The original chassis had an exhaust system molded in so I cut away everything from the frame rails and glued Evergreen sheet in its place. I used solder for the exhaust and polished aluminum for mufflers and exhaust tips. Frenched the rear license plate and taillights. The engine is wired & plumbed and has a oil level dipstick. The original interior tub was sanded smooth and new panels made from Evergreen sheet. The seats are my castings and the console with gauges is more Evergreen.

How about an insulated plastic cup with about 12oz capacity? I need to replace my cup that holds my RC Cola. What other goodies you planning? Don't want/need a jacket and already have a T-shirt.

Looking good, Jason. Welcome to the forum.
-
Way to go, Gus. The Dart looks fabulous.
-
Would it be legal to include pics at a show? I have a build with a nice interior but you can't really see it. I was wondering if I would be allowed to have an interior pic by the car on the table.

Drrrrrruuuuuuummmmm Rrrrrrrooooooollllllllllll. MCM January 2011 Issue #156 arrived today in pristine condition. I'll be reading it during commercials of Dancing With The Stars tonight. Wait a minute - January 2011 and it's already April 2011. I don't care. I just like getting the mag. Hope all you other subscribers get your copy soon.
-
Looking good, Rob. I wish I could have helped you out on casting the hood, but it's outta my league - so far.

Nothing like hearing good news. I hope Amber continues to improve.
