Revell '68 Dodge Charger R/T (UPDATED 8/13/10)
crazyjim replied to TurboKitty's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Couldn't you use aluminum tubing for the exhaust tips? I do and just polish them. They look almost chrome. -
Taa Daa. My airbrush was delivered today. I ordered a Paasche H-Set, extra cover cap, and a qiuck disconnect from Chicago Airbrush. Theys ent me an HS-Set but the cover for an H. I talked with them and they're going to send me the HS cover cap. Very cool - the HS was a few dollars more than the H. In the near future I expect to be posting my Badger 200 with extra glass jars, caps, quick disconnect, 10' braided hose, extra cover gaskets and siphon hoses. The bad part is that I have to cook at the VFW tonight and go for some surgery tomorrow. I'll probably have to use Friday to recuperate so I won't get a chance to play with the new airbrush until Sunday or Monday.

Painting both sides of a models hood
crazyjim replied to Darren B's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I usually paint the bottom first and then the top. I've also glued on the kit hood hinges and then clamped onto the hinge and painted both sides at the same time. -
I was following along your progress, Romell. You completed build is just awesome! I had no idea such detail could be done to 1/25 scale model. Your Chevelle is inspiring.

Why exactly do you post?
crazyjim replied to bigmikevee's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Some of you guys are very strange and some of you are really funny. I post because there doesn't seem to be many shows down here and the forum gives me an opportunity to share my builds. Sometimes I'm able to share some of my knowledge with another builder and hopefully help them. So many of the posts and questions I've asked have helped me build better models. I post comments because I figure that's what's expected. Why put a build out there if you ddon't get comments back? The only comments I get here are from my wife "How can a 62 year old man play with model cars every day?" (The easy answer is that I can). -
Back into the hobby.

Welcome to the best model car forum around, Tom. There always lots of great stuff happening here - builds, tips, completed kits, and some really top notch builders. -
Revell '68 Dodge Charger R/T (UPDATED 8/13/10)

Sweet looking build. -
Not a problem, Romell. Glad to be able to help you after all the inspiration I've recieved from your '67 Chevelle hot rod. Next time I go to Ocala I'm going to check if my LHS has one at a reasonable price. I would imagine you could use the bender on solder too.

The way you take pics makes it look like a real car. Love the blue paint. What did you do - paint the car black and then shoot the candy over that?
-
I don't like rusty stuff or rat stuff, but I think you really nailed the junker look with your build. Very realistic and I'm glad I looked.
-
The DuBro tubing bender is available online at several places and comes in 1/8" and 5/32" sizes. Hobbylinc has them for about $8.00 plus shipping of about $5.00 (to FLA).

I like the blue dot treatment and how you have the sideglass posed. Pretty neat build.

Crew cab GMC Syclone.

Pretty neat build, Jared. Very interesting to watch it coming along. -
Hey Brian - I'm back from the homeless shelter and on the way stopped at a Walgreen's and a CVS. The only sanding sticks they had were flattened out oval ones - no tapered ones. Thursday when I go to have the pool water tested I'll check at a different Walgreen's & CVS.

Looks like it's sitting in the showroom waiting for a buyer.

what type of airbrush do you use?
crazyjim replied to DrewCfromSC's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I ordered a Paasche H-Set from Chicago Airbrush. Should arrive this week. -
I have to drop clothes off at a homeless shelter today and I'll be going past a Walgreen's and CVS. I'll stop and check on those sanding sticks. I've never seen the tapered ones though.

Never have figured out why they're called Goats instead of GTOs, but here's my rendering of a 1967 model. Pretty much straight from the box but I switched wheels for something from the parts bin and I couldn't help putting on some polished aluminum exhausts. Engine wired, BMF, flocking

Appreciate that. Hopefully he can get different grits too. I like the shape of them. Just let me know.

I think the color looks pretty good. I like what you did with the forward tilting hood. I have '36 Ford going and might try your idea. Thanks.
-
You have some amazing work going on that Goat. Now I gotta keep checking back for updates. Looking good.
-
I'm always amazed with your builds, Jeff and still can't figure out how you do all those amazing details. The Buick looks great!
-
Brian - where did you get that teardrop shaped sanding stick? Scale Dreams doesn't carry them anymore.

I never heard of them but then I'm not into resin either. The pics on his website sure look impressive though. Hope somebody else will post about the outfit.
