Looks good, Shane! Will I have the pleasure of seeing it in person in a few weeks?

So Who Has The Popcorn Now?
Eric Stone replied to Bruno's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Seems to be that way on any model car forum or email list I've been on. I was thinking after hanging out here for a month and a half that this place was different, but I guess I just hadn't been around long enough for it to happen yet. There are some things I don't quite get... First, why do people have their panties in a knot over a software upgrade on a forum? I'm active on several forums, and they ALL have had substantial software upgrades in the past year, year and a half. EVERY one of them. It's not hard... The keyboard still types letters, the mouse still moves the arrow, and you still have to be connected to the internet to access it. Find where the buttons have moved to, and you've got it. I'm failing to see how it was something cruel/evil/mean 'Gregg did to his loyal members' (paraphrase) that should stir up anger or distress in people. If anything, it should be seen as something he did FOR the members, because it's introducing features like the Chat (soon as the bugs are worked out), more interesting and detailed profiles, and maybe other things I haven't stumbled across yet. On that note, thanks Gregg, for providing us with this forum with its bells and whistles. So that leads to the comments, which were on another board and should've never made it to this one, regardless of what the person was saying... They were brought over by someone acting immature, who obviously has problems with certain members, but is choosing a childish way to air them. It's obvious that thread starter was just trying to stir up trouble, but he had all of you eating out of his hand and people ran with it... Just remember that the whole world sees this stuff, the good, bad, and foolish. We don't need this kind of stuff on this board, and the cheering it on makes everyone look like a bunch of boneheads. Of course that thread had 20+ people looking at it at once- it was started on that day, and had hit what, 8 pages(?) already when it was locked. It would still be growing if it hadn't been locked. I looked at it too- who wouldn't? But it made me disappointed, to be honest. -
WAGNUM M46NUM What color is it? 'LIL RED' would be a cool plate if you did it in red...

Progress shots: It seems that the flash will find any yellow plastic showing through... At least you won't be able to see that end of the valve cover well once the body is on.

Cuba Cars
Eric Stone replied to Farmboy's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
I have a book called "Cars of Cuba" or something like that, and this is typical of a lot of the cars in the book. Would be a cool idea for a build... -
Well I got thoroughly distracted over the holidays and was away from home for a bit. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things, and I'm trying to get this project wrapped up so I can bail off into another one. I've been making some progress, not a lot to photograph, but have been accomplishing little things that are needed to complete it. I had to fabricate some radiator hoses, since the kit does not have them. I made a coil and mounting bracket, and mounted it to the driver's side inner fender. I've been doing lots of detail painting here and there, and started the chassis assembly beginning with the exhaust, and the engine and transmission. Next will be fitting the radiator and hoses in, then the front suspension rounded out by the rear suspension and shocks. In the middle of all that, I'm trying to get the body trim paint finished. Once that's done, I need to install the glass, then paint the headliner and pillars to match the interior- or paint the headliner and pillars then install the glass, I'll have to figure that sequence out. Once that's done, it should all be ready to go together. Headlights and taillights, attach the nose, and it should all be done! I haven't finished a project in 5 years, so I'm excited...

Looks good, that's on my to-do list...

Scca World Challenge...Good News

Only if the evil man driver who wronged the protagonist female driver in the past gets what's coming to him and the woman gets her new sensitive man and blended family of children to be her pit crew. -
I was wondering the same thing myself. Very nice looking Cobra!

Nice! I need to add those to my stash.

I don't like faux stuff at all, so on my 05 Mustang build, I'm omitting the faux gas cap from the rear panel and I made a tail panel insert out of the black piece of an old cd case. I made a shape out of index card paper, then transferred it to the cd case and cut it out. I used the black ribbed strip adjacent to the "spine" of the cd case, so when attached to the car, it has horizontal lines spanning the area between the taillights. It will be finished in flat black. Out of your two solutions to the rear end treatment, I like the orange strip at the bottom between the turn signals better. Great looking build!

Heh, figures you'd like it, Jeff! Looks good so far. I need to add that kit to my to-do stack... RMX did a hardtop too, right? That's the one I want... A buddy of mine in high school had a '65 Impala 4-door, L6, 3 on the tree. It was the first standard I drove, so I'll always have a sweet spot for '65s. I'd like to build the kit with all the performance options my buddy's DIDN'T have..

There's some sort of rule that either the audience, or the racers can vote for a particular car to be crushed or destroyed, kinda like a dirt-track claimer class, so that will discourage people from fudging the purchase price or value with an inside deal and bringing a ringer to the race because it'll end up being destroyed. Some friends of mine went to the one south of Houston and said it was a blast. I also read an article about it in Spirit Magazine (the one distributed on Southwest Airlines jets to read in flight) and it looks like a fun time.

Wow, very clean! I like it. Great job!

Here is some info, more specifically detailing his book, but it give you an idea of what he is/was about. http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2006/05/08/ej-potter-michigan-madman/

Harry & all Photoshoppers
Eric Stone replied to MikeMc's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you want to try a known amount of chop (2", 4", 6", etc), then measure the windows on the actual body and get an idea of how high they are. Let's pretend they're 18" in scale. Then on the image you have, draw a box or make a selection or do something that will give you an idea of how many pixels it takes to cover that 18" (if you draw something, it can be undone, you just need to get the number in your head). Let's say the window opening is 180 pixels tall. Then do the math and you'll find that on your image, each scale inch is 10 pixels. Then you can select the top portion of the roof like Harry has done, cut, and paste, and from where it was originally sitting, slowly drag it down 20 pixels, 40 pixels, 60 pixels, etc. to see how the different chops would look. When you're dragging that section, there should be some coordinates of your pointer displayed in the bottom of the screen somewhere (I have Paint Shop Pro, but I assume Photoshop is very similar) that you can use to monitor how many pixels you're moving. I've used this method to photoshop a pic of my buddy's car to see how it would look with 1.5" lowering springs. In that case, my known distance was the 17" wheel, then I just did the math and cut a large chunk of the image around the bottom of the sheetmetal, around the inside of the wheel openings, and up and across the top to include the sky and background, then dragged that top half down 1.5" (or X # of pixels) over the wheels to make the car sit lower in relation to them. Hope this helps. -
Christmas Haul
Eric Stone replied to Fuel Coupe's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No models for me for Christmas (Yet! Still have not gone to my parents' house.) I got an XBox 360 Elite, which should kill any model-building productivity I have... :-) Nah, I'll have to balance those out. I did get an early 80s McLaren Mustang and Callaway Corvette Speedster on eBay last week. One is at my door, one should be there tomorrow. I'll get em when I get home on Sunday. -
Factory or not, black stripes will look good on there.
-
Yeah, I don't think they had all that. When you use that stuff, do you use it over primer, or on bare plastic? Any other special prep work?
-
Yeah, I had thought about mixing some paint to get the right color, but I wanted to flock the carpet too, since that hatch floor is right below the rear window. Couldn't find any flocking the right color. Really, I've been having problems finding flocking in ANY color! I've been looking at the big chain stores locally- Hobby Lobby, Michael's, JoAnn Crafts, and also Texas Art Supply. One LHS said they normally carry some, and would have more in next week, so I will check back there. O'Reilly's and Auto Zone were a bust as far as interior colors.

I know it's probably just sitting on the tires, but the stance in the 4th pic looks cool, very aggressive pro-touring.

Charlie, I used one heavy coat of Duplicolor gray primer under the red. I don't know how opaque it is, I assume it's pretty opaque... I don't recall if I've ever shot it over anything other than Duplicolor gray primer. I used Testors Acryl Flat clear brushed onto the seats, and the carpet is Plaid Soft Flock (no longer being produced according to Plaid, it came with a color-matched water based adhesive). Since I couldn't find a caramel color that was right, I opted for the red, and it is pretty close to reference photos of two or three different cars I found online. Thanks again for the compliments!
