  1. I'd lose the vinyl top and any associated trim before the repaint. Things tend to get rusty under there, and a repaint would be a good opportunity to fix any that may already be there, while removing it is a good way to prevent future problems. But that's just me. Brown interior would work with a few different colors, so you've got some options...
  2. Mark, mine is actually Medium Red, that's why I asked if yours was too. It's a '91, has Titanium gray cloth interior, premium sound, sport seats, power accessories, etc. No sunroof. Mine's a 5 spd, has an MGW shifter which I LOVE, 3.73 gears. It has a stock long block and stock headers, with a FRPP Cobra intake, 65mm TB, a recently added C&L 76mm MAF, March Ram Air, BBK off-road X pipe, 2.5" Flowmaster catback system, Black Magic electric fan. It had H&R sport springs and Tokico blue shocks and struts all around when I got it. It still has those up front, but has Eibach Drag Launch springs and Strange 10-way adjustable shocks out back now, with the matching springs and struts waiting to go on the front, just gotta find some time. It has Maximum Motorsports full length SFC's, caster/camber plates, and adjustable spring perch rear LCA's. It has the Pony wheels with 245/50/16's, and also has the Weld Draglites with a 165 tire up front and Nitto 275/50/15 555R drag radials out back. I bought it in June '08 with 65k miles on it, and it currently has 72k I think. It's a blast to drive, and I take it to the track occasionally. Its best pass was 13.89@100, but that was before the big MAF, and I'm still trying to learn to launch it without spinning. Somehow the idea of dumping the clutch to KEEP FROM spinning seems backwards to me, but with that rear suspension and those tires, that's the way... I just slip it and spin for the first 20-30 ft. Need some practice... It's got some mid 13's in it if I can learn to drive it. The track just opened back up here, so I wanna go back soon. If you wanna un-beast yours, I'll trade you my stock stuff for your stroker.
  3. That looks really nice. I actually dug thru mine the other nite to check my progress on it. It needs paint, so I'll be sure to look for that color since it looks like a good match. You're right about the interior... I don't see the need to do much with it either, especially since the rear window is tinted so dark. I found a good pic of the engine compartment, so I was able to properly paint the little chrome piece that represents all the blue silicone hoses, so it no longer looks like a chrome blob. If I can get the carbon fiber decal to go on the air box, I'm all set... I hope the hood fits on mine- I'd hate to detail in there just to cover it up. Your wheels and tires look outstanding considering the wheels started out in that goofy looking chrome. Good job.
  4. Hmmm... Mark, you can guess which one I like best. Is that Medium Red on yours?
  5. That is what I use, and it looks right to me. I only have red and blue, so I've gone into a couple of Radio Shack stores lately but they don't have it. If I describe it to them, they direct me to some sort of magnetic motor wire or something (3 colors, looks anodized, about the right size but totally wrong appearance for scale plug wires). I'm going to look at Fry's Electronics since they stock a lot of base component type stuff for building computers and other electronic gizmos. I'm looking for black and gray.
  6. Well, that kit doesn't have headlight lenses- they're chrome. But the Elmer's glue trick mentioned above should work to make them look sorta clear. Brandon, my pics are in my Fotki album in the link below here, above my sig pic, then go to Cars, and there are several albums with my car, my buddy's coupe, and lots of Foxes in the various show and race albums.
  7. Cool! I bet that's fun. It'll look killer when it's all one color.
  8. That looks good for being your first one in that long! What kit did the wing come from? I can get you some reference pics for detailing if you ever need them, since I have a '91 LX in the garage.
  9. Thanks, Steve. I was going to point you in the direction of that album, but I see you found your own way there. My drawing skills are a little dull from lack of practice. With all the distractions there are, it's hard to find time do exercise all the creative outlets...
  10. VERY nice!
  11. Looks good! I need to build my 06 Motorsport car...
  12. Yeah, that's what I figured caused it. It was Duplicolor primer, which was probably a bit too 'hot' for the clear plastic, even though it's fine to use on styrene.
  13. Thanks for the compliments, guys. The camera was really nice to this one. I wish it was as clean as the pics make it out to be. I'm very happy with how it turned out, but of course I know all its flaws too... Thanks for looking!
  14. I've noticed that a lot of local (Houston area) Hobby Lobby stores have a Clearance area near one of the back corners of the store. They used to keep the yellow-tagged clearance kits on the model aisle or on an end cap nearby, but they seem to be moving them all to the clearance area now. Just something to remember when you go in and don't see any deals on the model aisle.
  15. Ugh I'm jealous of your Goat... I've been wanting one for a long time, but can't afford it. 2005 or 2006 Impulse blue, blue interior, 6spd, with the factory 18" wheels, and a wing delete and it would be perfect. You're right though, there are plenty of spots you can get going. Kinda like my daily commute up/down 225...
  16. Yup, you gotta go where the radar and red lights (and their cams) are not located... That's kinda what makes fun driving fun, is that you don't always get to do it on your daily grind.
  17. This one is now Under Glass...
  18. Well, here it is... First one I've finished in several years. I've had a few other builds I've tinkered with and nearly finished, but for some reason or another have ended up boxed back up and in the closet. This one has taken me just shy of 2 months, with a week off around Christmas where I couldn't work on it. It's box stock, with the exception of window tint, engine wiring, flocking, scratchbuilt radiator hoses, coil springs, and a coil. I added a small piece of brass screen to the bottom of the hood to correspond with the heat extractor on the top side of the hood, so it actually looks like a functional heat extractor. The window tint is actual window tint. The radiator hoses were made from .080" styrene rod, bent over a cigarette lighter flame, and the ends were drilled and pinned to the radiator and engine with 24 gauge wire. The coil springs were made from the same 24 gauge wire bent into springs and slipped over the smooth plastic studs the kit has in place of the springs. They bring a little more detail out in the suspension, if you are able to see. The coil is just a short piece of aluminum tubing with an aluminum duct tape bracket. The license plate is a parts box item. The hood prop is a piece of old guitar string. Paint is Testor's Model Master Acryl Gloss White, and Testor's Model Master Enamel Flat Black through an airbrush over Duplicolor gray primer, with no clear. The red stripe is Testor's Model Master Acryl Guards Red brush painted. The interior is Duplicolor Candy Apple Red over Duplicolor primer, and was brushed with Testor's Acryl Flat Clear and Semi-Gloss Clear where appropriate. The window trim was brush painted with Testor's Flat Black Enamel. The flock is Burgundy Plaid Soft Flock. Unforutnately, Plaid is no longer making Soft Flock, but there are other options out there. I ran into problems trying to attach the side view mirrors, and ended up cutting a 5mm x 5mm x 7mm right triangle of .030" sheet styrene to glue into the front corner of each side window to attach the mirrors. This helped considerably, although I glued the mirrors on perfectly horizontal to the perfectly vertical triangles, and didn't take into account the angle that the side windows lean in, so the mirrors don't quite look right once they've been leaned in to fit in the window openings, since the ends point up just a little. I also had some problems with the window tint conforming to the small curves of the car's glass. I have since bought a bottle of Tamiya Smoke, and will try airbrushing window tint on the next project that needs it. Overall, this was a fun kit to build, even though it could stand some additional detail on the chassis, under the hood, and in the interior (pretty much overall...) I have another one that is basically the same kit, but with a stock '79 nose and hood. It is missing some pieces and will probably become a big block powered weekend drag car. I also have a '93 Cobra R in the works. The build thread is here. More photos here in my Fotki album.
  19. Definitely looks like Toyota wants to build Nissans too...
  20. I dunno bout you, but when I imagine "fun driving," it doesn't involve running red lights.
  21. Ah, definitely not the ferrules I was thinking they may have been...
  22. Here's my daily, my '99 Silverado, 5.3L, Auto. 184k miles and counting fast. I've owned it since '02, and it had 28k when I bought it. Here's my current toy, '91 Mustang LX 5.0, 5spd. 72k miles. I bought it in June of '08, and play on weekends. It's got some minor mods, still not quite fast enough... Here's the Chevelle I've had for 12 years or so, my former daily, current garage ornament. It hasn't moved under its own power in over 3 years, and I'm not sure what I want to do with it.
  23. I like this one a lot! Where in TX are you?
  24. We bought them all the time on a little spindle of ten ferrules at my old job. When attaching fittings with nuts to a teflon, tygon, or nylon line, the ferrules are the only part that couldn't be reused, so we kept a lot on hand. I'm not sure where we got them, since the main office did the purchasing, and they were shipped to us. But it looks like the part I was thinking of isn't the right part anyway. Do you have a Grainger location near you? They sell all sorts of odd-ball fittings and valves, among other things.
