Man, that's pretty cool! Which Corvette, the C6R or C5R? I might need to pick another 'Vette up and do that.

There's a Revell Corvette, 1965-ish, white with red stripes on the box art- I hear it has Minilites in it, but I haven't bought the kit yet.

Real or Model #130 FINISHED!
Eric Stone replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I voted model. The panel line on the trunk looks a little big. Also, the reflection looks like the camera and top of a tripod sticking up past the edge of a table or something. I could be wrong though... And that wouldn't be the first time. -
Fan dies after hit by debris from NHRA crash
Eric Stone replied to Jon Cole's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Yeah, I was wondering what exactly you'd tether on a top fuel dragster, since there's no spindle like on something with independent suspension (Indy, F1, or on the front of a Nascar car). The video on the news showed the wheel/tire assembly coming off, but I don't know if it was from sheared studs, if the end of the axle broke, or what. The camera stays with the car, and not the wheel, so I didn't get a good look because it left the picture pretty quickly. It wasn't like the whole axle came out of the housing or anything, and the tire didn't come apart or away from the wheel. -
Same here. I apply it, then clamp/clothespin/tape the windshield into place and let it sit for a while. Never had any problems. It's also good for headlights and taillights.

Model Fiesta #29 San Antonio, TX Feb 20, 2010
Eric Stone replied to Len Woodruff's topic in Contests and Shows
Len, are you planning on coming down to the Houston IPMS show in April? -
I'm sure somebody out there has built the XXX GTO, since there was a kit of it. I haven't, and I don't even remember what cars were on Hill Street Blues, since I was just a tot when that was on tv.

Contest question
Eric Stone replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is exactly how I feel also. I have a truck I built in late '04 that got 3rd and 1st in two shows in '06 (I think). I won't take it back to those two shows, but I did take it to a show it had never been to last month and it took 1st there in its class. One of those local shows it placed in in '06 is coming up in April, and I won't be taking it back to that one. I'll build something that's new instead. -
Wow that's RED! I like it.

I think I have some 1:1 chassis shots of a '70 Boss 302 on my computer at home that may be helpful. If nobody has answered by this evening, I'll post em up.
-
I can't make it- I'll be doing a brake job on my truck...
-
I guess that means I should stay away from the New Monkees kit... Thanks for that run-down, Mark, I didn't know all that.

eBay or swap meets... They've been going for around $15-$20 + shipping on eBay lately. I've been watching a few. There are usually only one or two on there at a time.

That's looking good so far. Has the right look, just needs the little things to finish it up! What kind of induction is that Hemi gonna have?
-
That's a very good looking cleanly done build... ...of a funny looking car.

AMT '69 Galaxie BOSS 429 ...accurate?
Eric Stone replied to ZIL 111V's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sorry, I didn't read your post closely enough. Now I see you meant the engine parts themselves... Ignore the other half of my first reply. -
AMT '69 Galaxie BOSS 429 ...accurate?
Eric Stone replied to ZIL 111V's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Do you mean accurate as a good representation of a Boss 429 engine, or accurate for an engine choice in a 69 Galaxie? I haven't looked at the kit parts to see how accurate they are in representing a 1:1 Boss '9 engine. As far as I can tell after doing some quick reading (but I could be wrong), the Boss 429 was never offered in anything besides the Boss 429 Mustangs, although the standard 429 "385 series" big blocks were offered in Galaxies. Here's a pic I took of a Holman-Moody prepared Boss '9- You can't see much besides the valve cover. -
I was wondering the same thing!

Check out the new Indycar Concept
Eric Stone replied to Ryan S.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wouldn't even want to run it on an oval if it is gonna push as bad as it looks like it would. I sincerely hope the engineers that made it know what they're doing and know something we all don't... On second thought, I sincerely hope engineers made it, period. -
Check out the new Indycar Concept
Eric Stone replied to Ryan S.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Kinda reminds me of the old GM Firebird concepts, but uglier- If you replace the word "chassis" with the phrase "fighter plane", it reads like an article about the Air Force bidding on a new fighter design from competing defense contractors. To me, the series would be much more interesting (compared to the 0 interest I have in it now) if there were different chassis designs competing on track, instead of just one. The way the article reads, I took it that they are looking to use only one of the four proposed ideas. And HOW will that thing turn on those narrow tires with that narrow front track?? -
Those look pretty good. What size are they?
-
Sorry, Cranky, didn't mean to head towards a thread jack there with the rusty exotic conversation we're having on the side. Nice weathering job, and cool looking Willys!

Did you ever see the Top Gear episode where they were thrashing the '70s "super cars" bought on a budget? I don't think any of them finished the challenges because they all broke. What I meant above was, the new ones don't have much iron or steel on them to rust- but I do get where you're going, that it would be an interesting project to see such a beautiful, admired, sexy car (which ever one you choose to do) reduced to a dull oxidized heap. I just don't think it would be as interesting as rusted fenders on a car that is already old. You'd think a guy who has money to buy a Testarossa would also have money to buy an additional car as a daily driver...

pre-wired distributors....
Eric Stone replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Drilling out the kit-supplied distributors is cheaper than using aluminum tubing.
