  1. More progress. This may be it for a while.
  2. Maybe someone can call him/them tomorrow and see what's up? I tried emailing, but I got no response either.
  3. The re-issue of the '69 Camaro by Revell I'll be adding white stripes, of course. Not sure if going with this grille, or my favorite, the SS grille with the back side sanded down, leaving a true hollow front grille.
  4. Glenn, never did "compete" in the Bug-Ins here. We really didn't have them until I was out of VW's. I wished I went to the mainland to enter, I think I would have done well. With Adam's Apple, I would tear down the tranny and have it redone for the next round. That thing was murder on the 3rd &4ths, even though I welded them up. Always brought spares, of course. Never broke a ring/pinion though, always 3&4's. I miss those days. My favorite story was doing a dare one night in Lahina. Friend dared me, or rather said I couldn't, rebuild a VW motor blindfolded. Well, he lost the case of Heinikens, and the bugger started right up!!! Tore it down for the fun of it, everything was in spec, from the rods, end play, valve adj, everything. Got a lot of cuts and bruises on that one, almost got killed from a fan shroud that fell from the shelves 20 feet above me, cut my arm by the elbow... Only time the blindfold came off. Cleaned out the gash and sealed it up with Crazy Glue!!!!
  5. Thanks, Scott. I will try and find some of that decal paper in the gold, or red, or other contrasting color. I tried it once before, didn't have good luck I think. I have some decals from other aftermarket kits that has some stripes, maybe that would work. I tried to order the Line O Tape from their site, but I can't get through to the ordering final page. Has anyone else been able to? http://www.lineotape.com/
  6. Joe, welcome to the forum. Your work is great!! Of course, you're working with some of my favorite subject matters!! Can you do a short review of each car, who made body, kit, etc.? Thanks, and I hope you enjoy your stay here.
  7. Following Jairus' suggestions (I knew he was good for something!!!), I sprayed the inside of the purple metallic version of the Dune Buggy roof today with Tamiya Silver. I taped up the outside of the roof first. It came out really good. I don't know if I should try and spray the black on the inside now or not. Maybe I will, to see how it will turn out.
  8. Jim, true, very true, we all have our own preferences, but to us diehards, VW power is the only way to go. We never dyno'ed our cars here, never had one here we could use. But, with the ET's we were turning, 10.5s, we were never short of power. Plus, there's the weight issue. The four-cylinder bug motor was so light, so easy to work on, it was a dream. My record time to pull one from a running bug was 3 minutes, 45 seconds, pulled out of the car, by myself. Try that with any other car/motor. But, like you said, to each their own. I will not diss anyone who wants to do the Corvair conversions, I will mention that in the article, and Jim, if you want to do that part of it, I would welcome the input. I am going to limit mine to VW power, with a touch here and there of some Porsche pieces.
  9. Those are some of the ones I want to cast! I have to get started on those.
  10. I think I am going with this set up for the grille and bumpers. The headlights are from Bob Dudek. I think I am happy with the two-tone. It's Testers' Root Beer on the bottom, Tamiya Metallic Black on the top. Will try and do a very thin pinstripe in a contrasting color, or maybe chrome between the two colors.
  11. Also, in every carton of the standard white Meyers Manx, there will be a special special red metallic version. There is no way to tell which one will be the red metallic one, there is no special markings or anything on the box. The purple metallic one is only available through Auto World's online store and at the Auto World retail store. The five lugs are from the Fujimi Porsche 356 kits. They are us VW freaks favorite five bolt rims/tires.
  12. Since all the nay-sayers out there have called me out, I figured with this freezing weather we're having here (it got down to 70 last night!!!), I would see if I could get some building done. I will use this thread to post all the current builds of the new kits that came in over the past month as well.
  13. Had fun yesterday. Painted the 2012 Corvette with Jameston's Scale Finishes.com Ferrari Russo Red, slapped it together for a quick photo. It's not pau, but wanted to see how it went together. They call this their Showroom Replicas Series, which is basically a promo. I love them, hope they do more, right John????
  14. If you bring the case of single barrel JD!!!!
  15. The purple metallic is a special edition: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/content/amt-meyers-manx-dune-buggy-kit
  16. uh, it's there, on first post. I have been updating that post as I take all the pics. I'm down for today though.
  17. Yeah, there's only the chrome VW engine, with that single port dual carb set up. I forgot about that with this kit. I should have seen if we could have included a new engine option for it, newer VW engine, dual port heads, the 48's, ... Oh well. I was talking to my friend Gil the other day, told him with all the resin casting article I've been doing, I may put together some aftermarket VW parts for sale based on some of my masters, older parts, and parts box specials. I will be working on the full review and build of this kit myself, even though our good friend Tim Boyd did that 2008 article, which, by the way, is mentioned on the flyer that's in the Meyers Manx kits. Thanks, Tim!
  18. Here are the metallic versions of the Meyers Manx. It's somewhat transparent.
  19. Craig, send me pics to my email: gregg@modelcarsmag.com
  20. Craig, you seen how much some of the original 48 IDA's are going for now? Man oh man, could buy a house with those now!!!! 1835's always overheated here, we stuck to 1775 for street use, and the 1920s for our strip cars. Adam's Apple was one I crewed on for many years.
  21. Nick, you are missing the boat with the original Meyers Manx buggy. It was THE car with the air-cooled VW engine. The Corvair "options" to us VW fanatics was nothing short of sacrilegious. Now, don't everyone get all huffy and puffy at me, remember, I am, or was, not only a master journeyman VW technician, I taught VW factory classes, ran service VW dealer departments, and owned my own VW repair shops. So, to a person such as myself, the Meyers Manx Dune Buggy is our HOLLY GRAIL kit. Unlike Andy, I never could get my hands on an original kit, for a reasonable price (Under $100), so this kit is one I am buying a dozen/case of at least. I am shooting pics of the purple metalflake option kit one now.
  22. Thanks, Tim!
  23. Yups, Mr. Harry did a great job with that! Hopefully, Round2 will sell a gazillion Meyers Manx kits, and we will become the favorite mag all over the country for all those who love this classic icon. Now, I have send a note off to Winnie and Bruce Meyer...
  24. I built this one over the past week or so for Kelly's friend for Christmas. It's as close as I can get to a replica of her car. I did it from memory. I used to wrench on it a few years ago, haven't seen it in maybe three years? You have to forgive the sloppiness of it, a lot of it was built and put together laying down. It's waiting for the two taillights from Paul. I painted the chrome housings with a big dab of clear red paint for now. Thanks, Paul!
  25. Dick, it's GREAT to be King!!!!! I do give some away to our local club members, but as of late, there has been no club meetings here. I wonder why?
