  1. Thanks for the input on the tires. I will try to find a set of the 300C tires and see. I have some of the Aoshima new 22", yes, 22", and they look good up in the wheel wells. Don't care too much for the rim-style, just the size, and narrower tires as well. That was the problem with Aoshima's 18-20" rims/tires, they were a little too wide for most cars.
  2. Okay, now I have to put my two cents in. Yes, it upsets me when someone lists that they will only ship to the Continental U.S. What about Alaska, and that idiot editor of Model Cars Magazine who thinks he is da Big Kahuna who lives in Hawaii? That really gets my goat. If you can ship it to the U.S., you can ship it to Hawaii, and Alaska. Yes, Hawaii was "made" a state, after the forceful and illegal takeover of the Hawaiian monarchy, but that's another story. The other thing that gets me is when people will only send by Parcel Post to Hawaii. It takes three to five WEEKS to get here. I don't mind paying the extra Priority Mail shipping charges, including their inflated S&H fees, or even, gasp, First Class Mail!!! Now, for me, no, I don't ship to International buyers, except for very rare occasions. If I have to ship internationally, I have to fill out all the custom forms, go to post office, and stand in line. So what's the big deal? Well, to do that, it will set me back a day. Why? When I have to go out and do something, especially involving standing or waiting, I am done for for at least a day, sometimes longer. It's not a fun way to live life, but you do plan around that. If the post office would pick up and accept international parcels, I would be fine with it. Okay, I pau.....
  3. I got the new 2010 1/25 scale Ford Shelby GT500 the other day. Nice kit, looks like a mini-me of the 1/12 one on the table. Don't like the box art Think they could do something better, with all that talent we have out here...
  4. I thought you were 35? hhhmmmm.....
  5. Thanks, Shane! I agree with you on some mags, I like to pick them up at B&N and look through others that spike my interests.
  6. The CA doesn't fog the black tyres?
  7. I can't remember what someone had recommended for gluing aftermarket tires back together again after make them thinner, by slicing down the middle. Anyone have a glue they use that is perfect for this? I want it to preferably melt the tire halves together, so the center seam will disappear. Also, if there is a glue that I could use to reform the rounded outer sidewall when I really cut a tire down in size, say for a super-skinny front tire. I want the inner sidewall to have the rounded shape, instead of the straight cut you get from slicing it. Also working with friend on making a tire-slicing tool that will hopefully make this job easier, and more precise.
  8. Yes, of course. But you have to give da Big Kahuna first dibs :-)
  9. I have used Windex, I don't know what the others will say. Lacquer thinner always works on everything, and that is what I use for almost everything.
  10. Have you guys ever tried Resistance Soldering for making frames? I am working on an article that will cover this, but haven't heard or tried it on slot car frames. Guys, do you think Oscar would be better off with one of the Parma drag chassis to get his feet wet with first? I have picked up some of those Pro-Track wheels before, I love them!!!
  11. If you got $250k, it can be yours!!!! Your ROI will take, what, three thousand lifetimes? Seriously, not giving up, just so frustrated with it.... Unless someone has a better idea, or suggestions, or ?????
  12. Anyone want to buy eModelCars? I'm giving up on that..... grrr.rrrrr..rrrrrrrr
  13. we have started the first course of Resin Basics that will be featured in the November issue. This is the start of a great series that I have been wanting to do for many many years. My thanks goes out to Art Anderson for his help with resin casting. Stay tuned!!! There will be links to the column on the main site once the issues has been printed. I have a video to post also, but in the meantime, you can check out Mike from Alumilite's videos at: http://alumilite.com/HowTos.cfm
  14. Sorry, Sam, can you alter the "graffiti" in the lower 1/4 panel pics?
  15. Christian, I never really considered your analysis of eBay, but you are right. I guess that's why Mr. eBay was able to move here and buy a $4 million plus house here in Kahala, even though the DA didn't get on the beach. Sorry, I shouldn't use DA (Doesn't Account....), I should be nice, and welcome his millions into Hawai'i, (yeah, right) I will put some more effort into eModelCars soon, even if it means switching to a whole new system/software. The online auction software available seems like it's either way too cheap, or way to expensive. Everyone wants to make money off of someone else, and no one cares anymore about helping each other out. My current software, the programer has refused to answer some basic questions. Now, I bet if I sent him a new sales question, with a new email address, he would respond instantly! Bill, thanks for the buy on eBay, that helped out.
  16. 1. Six to ten hour flight (minimum) 2. Two hour waits at airports (If lucky) 3. Half hour waits for luggage (you guys seen what I travel with to shows?) 4. Two hour drive to show/hotel (heh, I'm used to driving on an island, sue me...) 5. Hour check-in (no, they don't have my presidential suite ready...) 6. Beds with bed bugs (Ask Jairus about that one!!!!) 7. Eight hours of pure physical pain (yeah, I got meds, so what? You guys can drink!!!) 8. Repeat process to get home, usually 1.5 times longer. Is it worth it? DARN RIGHT!!!! Every single time. And the list doesn't even include the cost, easily $2k per show, my pocket really loves that part!!!! I love it when I would go and no matter where it was, I felt like I was with friends, a lot of times I would stay at local houses, which sure beats the bed bug issue. And, the fact that at wherever show I would be at, I had a ton of people at the photo booth or table talking story all day long, creating quite a stir I may add, shows you that you guys enjoy having me there as much as I enjoy being there. I always felt welcomed, and that's the biggest thing I miss now, not being able to go to shows anymore. The last one was GSL, and Kelly came along more as my nurse than anything else. She had so much fun there too, and she was amazed at how many people would come up to her and tell her some great stories about previous shows. She never really got to see that side of the mag and what I have been doing over the past 12 years. I really miss going to shows, and hopefully soon, I will be "back" on my feet... or maybe get an extra set of wheels under me and run over some toes!!!!!
  17. I am actually incorporating a lot of his tutorials into the main web site's How-To section. Hopefully, I can get a Ask Alex type of forum going there, if time and good manners permit :-)
  18. Doing some major updates to eModelCars today Please pardon the dust..... or lack thereof!
  19. Norman is old fashioned, call him at: Replicas & Miniatures Co. of Maryland 317 Roosevelt Avenue SW Glen Burnie, MD 21061 410.768.3648.
  20. Contact Tom over at Spotlight Hobbies Michelle.
  21. Check out this one: http://steves-digicams.nextag.com/canon-powershot-sx120-is/zzsteves_digicamszB1z0--search-html Our friend George uses this, and I have to say, I'm impressed! I went through Steves-Digicams.com reviews, and from what i saw with George's posts, it does quite well.
  22. I don't know about that Chuck. I find that with Tamiya primers, the final primer coat is so perfect, it makes your final color coats straight as glass! Every time I have used DupliColor, and I love the Primer Filler (buy that once a week it seems), I have to sand the daylights out of the primer to get it anywhere near an unsanded Tamiya primer sprayed body. Maybe it's the humidity here, but DupliColor is always a lot more work. Tamiya, one or two coats and it's ready for final! Alex says he will always spray Tamiya Grey primer, sand, then white, sand, and if need to, white again. It's all in the prep work. And yes, you have to stand on your head to spray that one can upside down. The new directions says that if you are in Hawaii, you hold the can steady in two hands, and jump up and down for a minute to shake the can up.
  23. I have been using Bare-Metal Foil to mask it off, and spray it with Tamiya flat black. I want to try Tamiya Smoke on the new 2010 Mustang, to see how that works. There is usually a nice little ridge that you can cut around the inside with, and I almost always lay it down and use a straight edge to help out. Oh yeah, definitely a brand new xacto blade too!
  24. I have been fortunate to have some of the biggest and most incredible collections in the U.S. I won't mention names, they would not like that, but some of these collections are just mind-blowing. The amount? Well, easily four or five of them would top $100,000 in a heartbeat. A couple of them double that. I have asked to do features on them, but they say no, and I respect that. It is a hobby, and like all hobbies, some of us just go bonkers!!! With what happened to a few of our friends here on the forum in the recent months with the big storms that passed, it may be a good idea to start inventorying your collections for insurance purposes, just to be safe. I was working on a program that used a hand-held scanner and would show all the kit info, putting it into a database, but that's another one of those projects that got put on the "to-do" pile. Interesting thread, I have enjoyed almost all the responses. It's good to see what everyone has, a little peak into the lives of our far-reaching ohana....
