New issue on the news stands.............
Gregg replied to Steve D.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually, the cover is a big booboo. At the last minute, we had a story change inside the magazine, and I sent the corrected cover to the office, but it didn't get picked up. The custom Hornet was moved to the January issue, but it stayed on the cover. Oh well. Even with all the checks and balances in place, mistakes do happen. No, it's not going to be a collector's issue because of the error. Our friend Chuck Most gets two issues of coverage because of my error. Oh well..... No, I'm not going to blame this one on my meds. -
The best way is to call the office in Denver: 303.296.1600 The Back Issue page is still being worked on. I know the Golden Bell shopping cart site was having problems recently. Will have to check that too.

Wet Sand Metallic Colors?
Gregg replied to lukeeluciano's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Sorry, should have been more clear... If #12,000 don't work, then go DOWN to #8,000, then back up to #12,000. If that don't work, go DOWN to #6,000, then back up. Sorry... MEDS..... And yes, I know, that green is the wrong color... -
Wet Sand Metallic Colors?
Gregg replied to lukeeluciano's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Actually, I have had very good results from polishing all my metallic paint jobs, even the new Testors' ones. Sanding has been hit and miss, I usually start with the #12,000, and then go from there. -
Pic works, Manley, now, let's see some more! Oh, and e komo mai (welcome)

I got the new Micro Nitro web site up and running
Gregg replied to MicroNitro's topic in Links to Aftermarket Suppliers
Thanks, Jim. I know the black is the wrong color, but that's something I will have to live with.... I think the consensus is heading towards the front rims. I found my nuts and bolts box and I have all the studs, lugs and nuts, so they can be taken on and off. -
I have been getting a lot of emails lately from members responding to the notifications from the forum. If you get a message from MCMForums@ModelCarsMag.com, it is to let you know that you have a new message in your private message box, or that a response has been made to a prior message or thread. Replying to that notification does not get to the intended person, it is sent back to the magazine's email (me). I have received over a dozen of these over the past weekend alone.

You should check out Adam Friedman's Punching The Donut DVD, covers the 2005 Buena Park nationals. Jairus and I went there I think it was 2006? Incredible, to say the least.

Any football fans out there?
Gregg replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Did anyone hit a homerun yet? -
Jameston at ScaleFinishes.com has the Sunoco Blue, Tamiya's got one that is close, but of course, it all depends on your base coat. I did mine as I remembered the car as I saw it. When you take photos from the web, you are in fact only guessing. What someone sees on their computer will not be the same as someone else's monitor, that's a fact due to monitor calibrations, camera settings, and too much to go into. I like to go by what I remember, what I saw. Here's a photo with the gray card next to it, and calibrated for my monitor.

I think we are the only ones out there that do feature diecasts in the printed magazine, as well as online. Check out the past work of Cliff Read, Bill Coulter's latest article, our friend Morgan Barclay's work, my old friend Jeff Koch, and so many others, with more to come in the future.

How Technologically Savvy Are You?
Gregg replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, without all the tech stuff, Model Cars wouldn't be here. When I bought Plastic Fanatic from Roy Sorenson, back in 1997, he was still doing paste ups on his kitchen table. I was pretty computer literate back then, started with an old Kaypro portable and worked my way up. I switched to a Mac in '95 or so, and by the time I got PF, I was familiar enough with PageMaker to make it work. Switched to Quark after the first issue, and have used it faithfully up until this year. We are now switching to InDesign, mainly for the digital capabilities, ePUB, digital books, SWF, etc. I know enough to get myself in trouble, and everyone else out of it. Still get calls to fix computers over the phone or by logging into their computer. I was so moved by an article I saw on Steve Wozniak back in 2002, I wrote him, and he wrote back. He comes here sometimes, and we just missed each other back then. Still write to him a few times a year. Without what he made (Macs), I wouldn't be able to do this, well, without Harry either, but that's another story. Technology is great, we just have to adapt. Yes, digital is the future, but print is not going away. You hear it from all the big ones, the ones who are not overrun with outrageous overheads, billings, and what not, print is getting bigger, and better, the best will survive. This year will be an amazing year, just wait and see. Now, if only these darn doctors could get on the technology band-wagon and fix me!!!! No, I don't want a cattle prod in my back, or bottle of morphine p'ing on my spine, I want them to fix it, is that too hard to do? I guess so! With all the technology out there, you would figure they could find something to do. Maybe it's as simple as just going in and taking a look inside and see what's broke? Okay, I'm going on and on.... I pau... Wait, sorry. With technology, watch for some great new techniques coming as well. We have already seen the rapid prototype model making, and we will be working on this. Plus, more do it at home high tech stuff, a new feature, The Digital Modeler, and a lot more. Now I pau.... -
Pulled this one out today, I should get this finished as well: As a note, I posted this pic using the Photobucket link/tutorial. I need someone with a lathe to make me four of these rims. I painted them today, they were messed up, dropped them in stripper to take off black paint, and they cracked! So, I thought maybe I could get some turned aluminum ones made. I have the other 512 kit as well, so I would need four of each. Any takers?
