Gregg replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is no fee to start an online auction. i don't know where that came from, but there is no fees. There was fees for home page, featured, bold, etc., before, but I turned that off with this round of updates. I haven't had any problems listing I'll check now -
Issue #165 arrived..
Gregg replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's right, Tom, I forgot you were PO for a long time. Kelly's dad retired after 50 years. I don't think he missed a day of work! As for the back, no comment, but will update soon. Bill, I will have the office look again into the bags, but last time it was too much. I always listen to the criticism, comments, and such, it's the sarcasm from some (not you my friend), that really gets me going at times. We may be able to the extra cover, will have to look into that. There's a lot going on, so let's hope for the best. Okay, I pau... -

Bill, from what we have seen, it's fall-out from the old "why does Billy get his magazine before me?" syndrome, which is based on my theory of "Power of Six." We need six subscribers in that zip code drop zone to be able to bundle them up together, and be sent to that zip code drop station/post office. If they are in the six bundle, they get to the reader quickly, usually a week or so. If not, the issue to Billy gets bundled with Frank's, John's, and all the others outside of that zip code drop zone, and thrown in, not bundled, with all the other "orphans." Then, they get thrown together with other periodicals, other bulk rate mail, and sent to that big drop zone, then to smaller drop zone, then to the local post office. Along the way, the damage gets done. Make sense? Kelly and I spent a lot of time on this "theory." We did a lot of research on it, and talked to a lot of people in a lot of different places. It's not a science, but we think it was, and still is, the best way to explain how the process works. Hope this makes sense. Also, I subscribe to over 25 mags a month, and most of them are in great condition, every once in a while I'll get a torn page or two. But then, these are all mags with 100K circulations and more. It's a numbers game. And yes, I'm working my tail off on the numbers game. -
Those are fantastic, Joe! Who made the front rims? The Gold Fiat looks like MAS, yes?

YOU DON"T HAVE TO SEND IN THE WHOLE MAGAZINE. Only the cover that was messed up. Sorry for the confusion. We did a count, I think there was a total of 28 or so torn covers. yes, with all the complains we see here, that seems like a lot, but 28 out of what, 6,000? -

Question for Gregg or Harry...
Gregg replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually, when a certain someone would make the 5,000+ mile trip to a show, coverage of that show would go in the next issue, and photos of the show would go online usually that night; either from the hotel, or at the airport, waiting for the long ride home. As for the snide comments, that's not needed, necessary, or even appreciated. Yes, I deleted them. No, they don't need to be repeated. Rich, sorry to say, won't be seeing you guys any time soon. :-( -
MCM Forum FAQ- I think One is Needed
Gregg replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That will be a part of the main web site, once someone get's off his okole..... (me, not Harry, or anyone else...) Main Web Site = www.modelcarsmag.com Not the forum -
Okay, boys and girls, here's today's assignment. This is for those who have been asking where can they pick up Model Cars Magazine, and have not been able to find it at Barnes & Noble, or their favorite newsstand, or even grocery store/chain. The next time you go to buy a magazine, or even browse the magazine racks, ask the clerks if they can see if Model Cars is available, and if not, could they please have their manager and/or buyer request it. Every request helps, and hopefully, this will improve the chances of getting Model Cars onto the major national newsstands. I have been working on this for a while, and I think this could be considered the final step. The more people that ask for Model Cars, the more viable the title will seem. No, it's not stacking the deck, so please don't do this if you already subscribe to the magazine. I want this to be an honest and fair inquiry to the newsstands, and hopefully they will see that yes, MCM is ready for national distribution. Thank you in advance.

There was/is a MSDS sheet with it, I'd have to find it. I did another test today, a Monte Carlo that was painted with the Testor's gold metallics, that was being super stubborn and would not let go of the final paint on the roof. I let it soak for two hours tonight, and it took off that last stubborn gold paint. I love this stuff!!!! I had tried everything with the Monte; Easy Off, Purple stuff, even the Easy Lift Off. Nothing would get that last part of the roof off, I was even down to sanding it. Two hours, and it was gone. I'm sold!

If you want the best, you have to pay for it. Yes, it's expensive, but with these results, I would buy it myself. There was my usual primer under the black, DupliColor primer surfacer, then the black, both Testors and Tamiya, I know, I know, that's a no-no. that's why I had to strip it. I will do another test this weekend. One thing I did do was put a bunch of paint-laden hemostats in the bin for overnight, and they are spotless! There were at least five years of paint booth paint on them, crusted up to the max. I sealed the tub, so evaporation should not be an issue. I would assume that filtering would work, I'll ask the company. I have also used that Easy Lift Off, but that stuff is down right nasty! It is about the same price, when you consider the price per volume, with Blue Magic probably cheaper, since it's a quart. So, yes, it's expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Thinking about getting a track & some cars.....
Gregg replied to bigmikevee's topic in Model Car Racing
The power supply is from Professor Motor, the adjustable one, think it's the same as you state. Trying to look for timing system. I think the TrackMate is the one to find, from what I have read, but I only seen the bridge. Need to find that whole system, and of course, for cheap. I usually run at 15V, cause that's what the guys run at the club track by airport. With some of the old cars, it's fun to run down at 10 or 12 volts. It's funny how the car can be so fast here, but at club, it's a slow as a yugo with the parking brake on..... Found cheap magnets on eBay, some N52's, the guy has been cool. I like the slots cause I can stand up. Sitting is hard to impossible, so at least I can have some "fun" I used that track software that's free to design track. I saw some guy's layout/plan on a site, and modified it. -
Opinions on repairing paint bleed
Gregg replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just bought a lot of the super thin pinstripping tapes from Model Expo. I love them!! http://www.modelexpo-online.com/product.asp?ITEMNO=LOT06-02 I did a search for "tape" at their main page. -

With all the talk of the best paint stripper available, I was surprised to find in the mailbox a new product called Blue Magic. It's available for $21.95 per quart, plus shipping, and is available from: driverrogerinmotion@frontier.com I did a pretty thorough test, and I am amazed. Give Roger an email for more information. The test was my old Tamiya Porsche 956 that I had recently painted Tamiya Black, a lacquer-based paint. I started the test as you can see. After one hour, the paint had softened up. I decided to let it soak overnight. After 24 hours, this is what it looked like after gentle scrubbing with a stiff brush. Like I said, I am amazed!

It's the '75 Datsun Pickup from MPC. I picked up quite a few more from Dennis Doty recently, and when putting them away, I noticed that this one was started a while ago. I'm trying to get all the MPC Datsun trucks made. Have a passion for those from high school days. Article coming.
