@catpack68 Looking good! I’ve used Mica Red twice and in both cases over Duplicolor (dark) gray sandable primer as an accent color. It’s interesting to see over a lighter primer on your Tudor how BRIGHT it can be.

Talk about first-class turd polishing! I was given one of those kits and about barfed looking through it. Very nice work making something beautiful out of nothing! ?

Finally, an update to report! Nothing more I can do with my 32 Sedan while I finish painting the body and exterior parts so I pulled the Monogram Roadster out. Where I had left off it was in need of new forward exhaust “pipes” made to connect the Cadillac engine to the existing mufflers and tailpipes. I grabbed a pair of passenger side exhaust manifolds from a pair of Revell 49 Mercury’s (same source as the engine), made them so they pin to the engine and then pieced together sections of pipe made from the previous forward pipes from the cast-off Chevy. Their shape was manipulated with careful bending to sweep back to the mufflers and I put some discrete pins in the tops of the pipes that go into the bottom of the transmission cross member to hold them tucked up and in proper alignment. Initially, I was considering changing the mufflers to glass packs but decided not to further complicate the matter. With the exhaust crossed off the list I mocked up the whole chassis to assess what else needed to be done. This kit never had a steering gear box and the instructions have you glue the end of the drag link to the frame which is totally inaccurate. Just as in the full scale world, split wishbones can cause a conflict with side steering but after some trial and error I found a solution. I grabbed the gear box and drag link piece from the modern Revell Model A hot rod kits. The link rod was cut off leaving just the pitman arm. An .040” hole was drilled through the side of the frame, an .040” rod inserted into the arm to pass through the frame and an .040” hole drilled into the box to mount on the other end of the rod, sandwiching the frame. From there I trimmed away the steering arms from a tie rod from the Revell 32 kit series, shortened the rod and carefully shaped it to jog around the wishbone and pinned it to the inside of the pitman arm. On the top side a hole was drilled at an angle through the firewall (second times the charm!) for the steering box shaft to disappear into. With that the car has a functional looking steering. ?

Great Pumpkin ‘32 Chopped Ford Tudor Revell
Dennis Lacy replied to Silvercreeker's topic in Model Cars
Bitchin! Great to see another model get built with Drag City’s chopped sedan body. Has a great look with the oversized Radirs and very cleanly put together. I wasn’t aware the aftermarket offered a Jiggler conversion. Really neat to see in-scale considering how extraordinarily rare they are in the full size world. -
Absolutely OUTSTANDING! One of the best models I’ve seen built from Ed’s 3-Window body!! (I also must say, whoever mastered that body sure nailed the chop! ?)
-
Had more time today and got the interior assembled except for the pedals because I forgot to paint them. Very happy with the finished look. I’ve gone as far as I can now until the body gets painted. ?
-
Thanks! I have the decals but I think I’m going to paint the W engine color. Again, when I can remember to bring the can home! ?

Update on my Tudor. Had some time today. Got the frame and a few other parts polished and waxed with Adam’s Correcting Polish and Buttery Wax then assembled the chassis. It’s finished except for a few small details. I want to paint the brake calipers to match the engine but keep forgetting to bring the spray can home. ? Like any good hot rod builder, I couldn’t resist setting the body on the chassis for a look. Speaking of the body, hope to have it in finished paint by next weekend. ?

What’s the source? I have an identical pair I acquired in a care package from a friend and don’t know where they come from.
-
Nice! I’ve recently enjoyed refurbishing a couple of older builds (Double Dragster set) and looks like you’ve done a fine job. I like the color. Do you remember what it is?
-
So glad to see this one get finished. Not a thing I would change, you nailed every aspect. Color choices and finishes are perfect. One of my new favorites from your bench! ?

Man does that look good!

PERFECTION! ❤️

Sometimes! ?

Still at it. This afternoon I was able to get the body and related exterior parts primed. One of the things I love about Drag City Casting bodies is that there is literally no paint prep required other than a good wash in plain dish soap. ? Seeing this body in a more visible shade of gray I also can’t help but admire the proportions of the chop. Whoever mastered this body sure did nail it! ?

More work done. Nothing like spending 35 minutes masking the frame and interior to spend a collective 1 minute spraying 2 coats of semi gloss black on the floor areas, LOL! ? Joking aside, thankfully I didn’t screw up! This means I *should* be able to get the frame polished, waxed and the chassis assembled this weekend. ?

Not that I ever doubted you, but, it’s incredible how well this project has come together. Your ability to envision and engineer, not to mention your usual surgical precision, never cease to amaze me. ?

Over here chipping away. Axle and suspension components detail painted and sealed in Tamiya gloss clear. Interior components painted. Colors are Tamiya AS15 Tan and AS16 Light Gray along with more TS88 Titanium Silver like the chassis. Would have assembled, but, I still need to spray the bottom side sating black. I mocked a few things together to get a feel. The supercharged small block is finished. Was undecided on ignition style but landed on a mag from the parts bin and orange plug wires. I think a blower and mag just look right together! Also assembled the radiator, shroud and cap. Down to painting the body and related parts and they will be getting primed in the next couple of days. ?

Oh, noooooo... They're multiplying! '90 MUSTANG LX 5.0 - The SILVER FOX
Dennis Lacy replied to mrm's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Silver is definitely a great color on a Coupe but I’ll warn that Tamiya Silver Leaf is REALLY silver. Like 1950’s SciFi spacesuit. I use it with a flat clear to replicate cast aluminum or out of the can to replicate ceramic coat on headers and exhaust. Look at their Mica Silver. It’s a great color. See the example below… -
This turned out rad! Love the weathered finish on the body and the contrast of the shiny painted and plated chassis. The Hemi looks great with the row of 2-barrels, factory rocker covers and lake headers. The stance is on-point, as well, with the big rear tires tucked up to the body just right. ?
-
Rad! Love the fender-less and wire wheel combo. Those larger 34 wires and tires also go well proportionally with the stock height too. Hard to go wrong with TS11 and digging the copper accents. ? Are the fog lights simply the optional smaller headlights from the kit?
-
Both are nicely built and look great in their respective colors. Good choice to strip and paint the wheels on the roadster. To leave them chrome would have been too much. ?
-
Man, you nailed the colors and the stance. Small block looks great. Nice work!

I don’t know if there’s a better color on a custom 49-51 Mercury than maroon? What I do know is that this is one of the nicest Revell Mercs I’ve seen yet! Very nice!!! ?
