What Is In The Box ?, Chase Elliotts Napa Auto Parts Chevy SS

So no Goodyear markings but they include the tire markings? Or have they gone back to molded in lettering? I quit NASCAR kits a long time ago. Got over 100 built from back when. -
1/25 Revell '70 Plymouth HEMI 'Cuda 2'n1
randyc replied to MachinistMark's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks. Been a while since I finished it. I recently found my AAR (based on the Challenger). Put them side by side. You can guess the rest. -

It is built, same colors. And I think mine is actually the 1/12 scale.

The new cameras in phones are getting better and better. I use my phone for any model pictures. Moto G4. It will "zoom" in almost as close as my work buddy's Samsung Galaxy 7 or 8. We did a direct comparison photographing some print on a Matchbox that we couldn't really make out with normal vision. These are not actually zoomed, but taken at actual distance. Just have to let it focus first, then tap to capture. The zoom is not as good as letting the camera in phone do it's thing. The zoom on mine fuzzes or pixelaters weirdly. (Cheaper phone) Yes the depth of field is limited, but so far, I can live with it and it is capturing the details I want to show you guys pretty much as good as I could do with a lot of setting work. I am definitely a "casual user". I have tried the macro setrting and it doesn't seem much better. I may try it and compare the DOF. Also, when taking a picture of a model, try to get to an angle that you would normally view the car if you were standing there. looks less like a model and more realistic, in my opinion. Yes do some overall shots, but try a few close ups like you were looking in the window, or standing in front or whatever. Photos below are taken with no messing with the settings. Just letting the camera do it's thing. No zoom, nothing. Yes, it took a couple shots to get it focused exactly, but just in giving lens time to focus correctly. Good post though and always good ideas in such posts.

I've looked at the engine kits but never pulled the trigger. I have a Big Duece, but a friend wanted it more than I did and offered me crazy money for it.

Thanks for the compliments again. I love buiding a car with a story or some personal attachment.

I have looked at many of your posts on these cars and basically decided to try to build the kit best I can and let it go at that. Since it's a race car and the net only has like 4 pictures of it, let's just call mine a race day version that was never photographed... lol It will never be a contest model, but will give me a T/A class car on the shelf. I do wish there were T/A kits available. I have the Testors diecast for a stock version even though I have read about it's shortcomings. Great thing about fuzzy memories is that the Testors car represents a fuzzy memory of the real thing, having never owned one.

I didn't have any luck with that search turning up results quickly. I'll watch this thread and see. I have one of those too and would like to build it someday. Didn't know there are things that need correcting. Haven't looked at it closely and am only going from memory of the cars.

I think I have that same Fat Boy in same color. That fire engine is incredible though.

Cool. I have had 1/8 kits, but they are so large. I ended up selling them. I do have a 1/8 IROC body I need to sell/trade off at some point. I have tried a few military kits. If they aren't cars/trucks, I can't ever complete them. I lose interest in planes and such. Never tried a tank or ship. I have 1/43 in a couple of kits, but mostly diecast I pick up when the subject suits me. And I think I do have a full set of hte Monogram Exact 1/87 or whatever they called them. Was going to build a car dealer diorama. I think I finished the building on a base and the cars are in it, wherever that is.

Looks Great! I can't bring myself to do a weathered build. But this is spectacular.

These are the builds that inspire me to try to emulate. THAT is one beauty of a build! Makes me reconsider that one for a future build.

Thanks so much for all the compliments! I've done 3 tributes to the parents and in-laws in a row. Have to find my next inspiration. Working on the Warren Tope and that is definitely NOT an inspiring kit. Subject matter is, but kit itself is anything but. Knowing that when done, it will NOT resemble the real car hardly at all. BUT I did spend a lot on that kit and have to trudge on through to the finish. May start a new build as well. I still have 56 DelRay and Nomad. 58 Impala, 66 Chevelle wagon. A lot of others. I'll find something in the stash to start or finish.

WOW! THose wheelcovers are beautiful! The rest of the car is as well, but those wheelcovers blow me away! Welcome to the forum.

need to understand (( Update 11/15 ))
randyc replied to rel14's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep, happened to me. In addition to model car parts, I have lost a screw from a bicycle that has been MIA for over a year. -
How many scales do you have, build, collect, detail, etc?? In the photo, I see from 1/144? (Micro machine) up to the 1/18s. I do have a 1/16? Tamiya Porsche in another part of house - my largest car. Some 1/12 motorcycles too. I love "toy cars". That's how other people see them. If it interests me, I will buy it. I think the Micro Machine is a 49 Ford. The others are different things, culminating with the most recent, the 76 Torino from Revell. And thanks to my wife for being so kind as to let cars be all over the house! The ones on the plate around the vase were not planned to be there but I'm leaving them til she makes them live somewhere else. LOL So - what ya got?

Mom had a 72 base Torino. That will never happen, so this seemed to be a good car to tribute that car. It was the first car I remember Mom buying. First car we had that I remember was a 67 Impala Coupe. Green metallic with green vinyl top. Wheelcovers. Not an SS. But Mom was a signle parent so I know this was probably a big thing to her. It was to me. No car seats back in the day. I remember her getting RADIALS on it and the noise they made. But she said it drove better. Hers did have a 351 W I'm pretty sure. My uncle got a little excited by it - he was a car guy. IT was 2 bbl. I remember that from the air cleaner lid. I remember the metallic blue vinyl interior as well. So here is my tribute. All box stock. I'm not happy with the decals for the scripts, but thought I'd try them. They need more defintion; maybe a black base or something? May foil and wash them later. The bumpers were painted over with Detailer black, which I think makes large chrome parts more realistic. Wheelcovers turned out nicely I thought. Very plain. Not sure how many builders will actually use them, but they were perfect for this build. As I've said elsewhere, this is a great kit for practicing or learning to use foil. Lines are deep enough to learn with. Last picture is the diecast Maverick I repainted as tribute to wife's mom's first car. Her's was 4 door with vinyl top, so I made the vinyl top follow the 4 door style top. And the wheels are from a 70 Mav, but all I could come up with. The Mav even has a 6 cyl engine insert.

Those really do build up nicely and a great way to ease back into modeling after a break. Looks great!

NIce! That is such a bizarre car.
