Thanks. Been working on improving the dashes and details lately.

That blue Elliot car on a previous post was what really drove me to do the "tribute" to Mom's old torino. Same color. As much as I liked S&H, I just didn't want to build it - too many other things left to build.
-
I get what you're saying there. I had too many on hand to do the S&H even though I was pretty loyal to the tV show. BUt this one was probably as close as I'll ever get to a stock 72, even though it is quite different. Thanks for the compliments.

Not a tip really, but a good kit to practice on is the Revell 76 Torino. Doing one now and it is a great kit for learning to foil. I just about always cut straight strips out of the sheet. Real window surrounds are usually multi pieces anyway, so doing the sides, top and bottom separately save foil. I even do the same with the fender openings. A piece across top and one down each side. I don't do contests and saving foil is more important than having it in one piece. Plus it makes it easier to deal with. I am not precise enough to cut the foil to proper width and apply. One thing I am finding is that the angle of knife to make cut makes a huge difference in the finished appearance. Just have to experiment with that to find the angle that works on each piece. Photos show the multi piece approach. The side window surrounds are 3 pieces. Fenders, - 3 piece, rear window 4 piece. For small emblems, cover the whole thing, cut as close to overall shape as possible. then wash some Detailer fluid over it. Will add a little depth tot he whole thing. I don;t have a pic of that right now.

I may or may not have some in my stash of stuff. PM me if you need them. I also had an "Aunt Bee" type figure at one time. From Chimneyville. I did have the decals and the figures. never opened them. I *think* I know where they are if I still have them.

So my latest project is the Revell 76 Torino. A tribute to my mom's 72. Hers was the base, with the awful grille. It did have a 351W and A/C. Not sure it had anything else. Light blue with metallic blue interior. So this is a box stock build. And btw, this is so far the EASIEST kit ever for foiling. If you need to learn or practice, this is the kit. A lot of easy lines, even eaiser if you scribe them a couple times. And some slightly more challenging - the fender openings got pretty buried under my paint. And the drip rail modlings. Car basically falls together if you shake the box. I did use the S&H wheel backs to ge the wheels set farther out in the openings. track seems too narrow with the backs provided for this kit. Only things I've done are to clean up the slight flash on the parts and body. I also scribed the openings a bit deeper. Will wash them with some Detailer later. Probably finish it next week. This should have been a 2 in 1 all the way from beginning. Would love a wagon version or some other version (Ranchero?) off the basic tooling. Seems like this platform was the underpiinings of a lot of cars from that era. Go buy one so Revell will sell a bunch and make more versions. LeMans car anyone? Basically a NASCAR racer. Yes that would take a different chassis and could be done easily enough.

Selling on the Forum - Poll
randyc replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not here nor on FB. The cars and other things I've tried to sell on FB (Stove) just ended up being a hassle. Someone says they will buy, then disappears. As much as I don't like ebay, they have it down pat. And yes, they get a goodly chunk of your money as a seller. But the transaction gets completed without having to message back and forth for days while someone decides what they want to do - or tying up other offers after they say they will take something and then disappearing. No sense in making this a war zone with folks bringing anger to other posts over something in a sale transaction. If allowed, post the item then go to emails. Still a lot of room for folks to want revenge for a bad transaction. -
Styrene sheet for race trailers
randyc replied to misterNNL's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Local sign companies may be a resource as well. Company I worked for used sheet styrene for gas pump overlays and I have a 2" tall stack of .040 sheets that are 3" x 6". Nice to have on hand when I need it. Sign companies, especially smaller ones, are always looking to get rid of scrap without having to deal with it. Just a thought. Company I'm with now gives away 2x4s and oak pallets for the asking. You come get it. Same with trash cans from convenience store. We have about 50 of them on the lot that are free for the asking. But yes, I plastic suppolier will sell a big sheet for not much more than a pack of little sheets. -

I felt that way when I sold Harry P a kit... -
Love those historical race cars. And without these, we never would have had the GrandSports. Those and the Cobra Daytonas are my two favorite race cars of all times. Love what the guys did back then to go racing. Nice build.

56 Ford Arggghhhhh - ever dropped one? Of course you have.
randyc replied to randyc's topic in WIP: Model Cars
My first exposure to models were my uncles. My grandma let me play with his and I was much too young to be doing such. My uncle still remembers, but I have built a couple models for him. One 57 chevy since he was bornin 57 and a 66 Impala like he owned. I also have a Meyer Manx that I will probably give him if I ever finish it. I have also had children knock things off of mine as well. Part of the zip lock bagged kits mentioned above... That is sometimes a tough pill to swallow, especially when the parents don't "get it". I read the drops you guys share and can remember having the same things happen. Have dropped wet fresh painted bodies on carpet, dirty floors, etc. I have dropped and seen them 'splode. My first top chop ended up as a convertible because I am too ham-handed. Learned my limitation there. Have thrown at least one against the wall in anger. Learned that when I get that frustrated to stop working and either do something else or work on another kit. Ahh the memories. -
1967 Pontiac Bonneville. 2/20, COMPLETE!!
randyc replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Nice woodgrain. I use Testors rust or leather for my base color on woodgrains. Saves adding red to brown and already a satin finish. Will look great with the chrome edge trim. I assume that is what these cars had. -
Thanks. I saw one on FB last night that was blue/white with just the steelies. no caps. Sharp. The more I look, the more I can appreciate the design of this particular car. It was a fun build as well. Would love a new tech version like the Revell 57.

randyc replied to randyc's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Awww you guys - see it does happen. And hopefully others will see it happens and realize it is not usually the end of the world. Just have to take a step back and fix it again. I have several display cases that have fallen. I collect the pieces and turn the case upside down to hold everything til I can get back to it. Or put it all in a zip lock bag for later. My 64 Impala fell as well. My 66 Fairlane was a victim too - during the build. Never did get it finished. Opel? Got it but haven't ever done much with it I have a 32 Ford sedan that fell as well. Funny that I have a lot of the same kits you guys have and have dropped or damaged the same kits. Kindred spirits. The 56 is "under glass' now if you haven't seen it. -
I have no idea where mine is. 2 Moves and a divorce since I last saw it. I was initially put off by the box art, but things change and it is a wagon. Mine won't represent as nice a car as yours for certain. But maybe something close. Woodgrain AND a wagon - what's not to love?

Camp Crystal Lake Truck
randyc replied to dig's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
SWEET! -
I wasn't sure where it really went. The reference car I used had a Continental kit. I did look it up and may put one on it eventually. I have a LOT of models with no license plates. I should print a whole sheet of the Acme NC plates with my name or something to use when a kit plate gets lost or isn't right.

THANKS everyone for the compliments. It was supposed to represent Mandarin Orange. BUt.... the paint I had was a bit darker - Testors Sunburst I think. The white is shifted darker as well - to be a "creamier" color. Not so stark and bright as Colonial white. I really wanted to see if I could get both doors to open on this one. I have 57 where ONE door worked from the 90s. So it was a personal challenge, again inspired by your black & white build. They were working til the drop. I also had a set of "ford" hubcaps that were in the running from some old project. Decided to stick with the smoothies to give a little "hotter" look. That rubber seal is pretty much on every car if you really look. I try to add details like that. To me, they make the difference in a finished build. But I blew it on these crazy shaped windows. Hard to paint those and I'm a bit too impatient to really spend the time working out a mask. Maybe next time, I'll wait til the windows are glued in and try it that way. So I have a better idea of the final positioning of the glass. And sorry, but this one will be staying with me for a while. May dig out the 57 and re do it to sit alongside. It was done up with the 90s interior and the Budnik wheels in the kit, purple pearl and white, following the factory color break.

Sweet choice. Yep that would be a great kit. Not a lot of sales though...

I would not be that insterested in new trucks but would be interested maybe in some of the older trucks posted. As for building my current ride, I had to search a lot to find a 2007 Ford Edge. But I was able to find a James Bond Ford Edge in Great Britain. Diecast 1/43. $12 to my door. It was black and had some movie markings. I disassembled and repainted to match my vehicle. Only model I've ever owned of exactly a car I owned in 40 ish years of model building. Most people do not own Nickey Camaros., just as an example And it was pretty much my exact vehicle, down to the receiver hitch. I think folks would buy some newer vehicles if offered. Not sure they would spend $30+ though, if they aren't a dedicated builder.
