What did you see on the road today?
Scott Colmer replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA. Hosted on Fotki -
George Barris was a fixture at the SoCal car shows. I have seen him many times and it was always a neat thing. He put in a lot of time being George Barris, which is perfectly OK. A lot of good things came from that including some great car models. He did build his own legend - both good and bad. Re: The Dragula -see below from wikipedia. Perfect fit for this thread. Maybe even ironic. DRAG-U-LA, along with the Munster Koach, was one of two cars designed by Tom Daniel while working for George Barris and Barris Kustom Industries for the television show The Munsters.

New issue just hit my mail box
Scott Colmer replied to Jairus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is it. One I asked our local Hobby Town about stocking SA. They said the corporate distributor determines what they stock. I would imagine that a single store location like Pegasus Hobbies subscribes to a certain number of magazines each week, but I never asked them. Those would come bulked either in large capacity envelope or a box. -

The company I work for prints a number of those. Check QG.com. We also print smaller circ mags like Models Cars. I suffered damaged copies for a while, then it cleared up. Now if someone can tell me how to un-brick my back issues that got damaged in a house flood, I would be pretty happy. -

I work in the commercial printing industry. The copies that go directly to subscribers are placed first on pallets then sorted in to mail trays according to zip code. During the sorting, mailing labels are mechanically placed on each piece. The trays are taken to a post office there they are processed through the mailing machines and out to the various local post offices where the carrier eventually delivers them. There is at least twice the machine processing of each copy and a lot of human handling. The copies that go to the hobby shops and stores are usually bundled in a box and that box is delivered to a distributor either via UPS or a truck depending on the size of the load. My guess is SA goes via UPS. The distributor removes them from the box and shelves them. No machine handling after press and far less human handling other that store patrons grabbing a free peek. -
barn finds you wish you had
Scott Colmer replied to oldnslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not so much a barn find but.... In the late 70s, about 10 houses down from my parents a really nice guy had a 100% original 69 Boss 429 up on blocks, stored in his garage. I am guessing the mileage was under 50k. I don't remember that part. He had it there for years. The polyglass Goodyears were set to the side. The radiator was drained and put aside as well. The gas was drained too. There was even an extra cam in a box. He said he was saving it for his kids college. He was a pretty young guy. He had bought it from the original owner when he was just out of High school with money he had earned himself and he used it as his second car. I used to always talk with him if he was out front. Once he was ready to put it back together so we could take it for a ride, but that never happened. Too bad. He moved away and took the car with him. I don't if he ever sold it. I always told him I would save the money to buy it. I bought a house instead. -
That is awesome! I always enjoy a Deals Wheel upgrade. This one is perfect!

What Happened to Critical Thinking?
Scott Colmer replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
That was a great article. I am soon to be a teacher. When the idea first struck me, this type of thinking is what I wanted to teach. Then send them out into the world! I am going to tip toe on the edge of politicism to make a point about what happens when we abandon critical thinking. I claim to belong to one side of the political spectrum. People I know claim to belong to the other. The interesting thing is that when two of us name a series of the most common political issues and where we personally stand on each one, we find that we are in agreement on 90% and can get to a compromise on the rest. As soon as we start using party monikers to assign beliefs to each other, it devolves into the typical partisan argument. It seems we were trained to not be critical thinkers. -
74 Cougar dragster,,,, not what you'd think!!!
Scott Colmer replied to DrKerry's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Very KOOL! A classic basher's theme with a unique twist. I like it! -
For those Carl Casper dragster fans, it's been a great year. We got the Young American and the Cosmic Charger (with correct engine!) So how about the hat trick? Can we get the Galloping Ghost II? If I remember correctly, it's basis is the reissued Ramchargers/Jaw Breaker/Hemisphere dragster. It might be just a matter of opening up a few parts to the mold. John G - Is it possible? If anyone wants to let John Greczula know that they would also like to see the return of the Galloping Ghost II, they can send him an e-mail at jgreczula@round2copr.com Scott

1/25 MPC Carl Casper's Cosmic Charger Fuel Dragster
Scott Colmer replied to dragnut's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I did a search on Carl Casper and came up with a show promotions site bearing his name. I sent out a request to forward and e-mail to Mr. Casper asking for pics of the CC engine or even information. So for nothing yet, but it only been a day. -
What's Everyone Profession,etc..job,
Scott Colmer replied to stanleymsn's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I am pretty sure I responded to a thread like this, but here goes anyway... Commercial print for almost 30 years. Started with an ad agency out of college as an intern. No pay, but they promoted the Miss English leather contest at the Sacramento Autorama. I had to prep the contestants before they walked on stage. Then, the Sac Bee, then a print shop, a display advertising shop, finally the same commercial print company for 24 years now. The company name changed at least 4 times. Started as a stripper, then moved to customer service. Been there for the last 20 years. We run accounts while they are in the printing process. One account took me all over the US. So that was fun. In less than a year I should be in my second career as a teacher for mild to moderate special needs elementary school kids.
