  3. Lane , Here is a twist on the the same idea. For a couple years running a group of friends pulled their scrap parts and got together to built a parts box model in one afternoon. The rules for the Rat Plastic Thrash were use only parts from the pile, black spray primer, and spray metalizer. Grinding and cutting were allowed and encouraged. Here are some creations from those good times. A typical rat plastic pile. 4. I remember those too, Andy. Awesome creativity. That 1:1 Citron is really neat. I look forward to seeing what you come up with, Chuck. A friend of mine did this: Hosted on Fotki Scott
  5. Here's a thread that is right up my alley. What-ifs are a fun pastime. Wish I could draw better. I plan to build these.... someday..... Cord boat tail - Sedan delivery. I wish I did a better job of pulling off sense of the boat tail being wedged. Hosted on Fotki 40 ford roadster with whale inspired design queues. Hosted on Fotki F-100 Gasser and Cab over. I have the parts for the cabover. Someone roughed out a body and gave it to me, but the bed got used in a group parts bash. Hosted on Fotki More TK The Brickmaster. Ivo Chassis with a 66 Lincoln body. Hosted on Fotki Lil Coffin Hauler. A pretty close rendition of this showed up in MCM after I posted this in the car art threads a years earlier. I think Brad Leisure (sp?) did it. It was neat to see. Hosted on Fotki Erik, The Porsche is cool. I remember seeing it before. Hey Chuck, Are you thinking of this?... Hosted on Fotki Great stuff in this thread gents. Hope to see more. Scott
  6. I've picked up the Pontiac Banshee for the high-tech twin tube chassis that works well for pro touring applications and the Rumblurrr (Snaptite) for the killer flame tread tires. They usually come pretty cheap in the junk boxes at swap meets. I also bought a bunch of reissue Attempt 1 kits several years ago for the excellent Dragmaster Chassis, and pie crust slicks. The canopy would also work on some altered or LSR projects. They were 4 bucks a pop at a clearence center. I almost forgot the Revell street rod kits with the Chrome Butterra IRS. I've used a couple of those too. Also pretty cheap. Below are the Tires and the IRS Scott Hosted on Fotki
  7. I really like where this is going!
  8. Back when I was 30 I got my first "real" job that allowed me a bit of money. I spent a lot of money on mail order models that I wanted. I hauled a large kit collection from apartment to apartment and rented rooms. I loved having those models. I could stare at them for hours. But all I had was a bunch of models and a used Volvo to my name. One day I decided to "grow up" and sell the little stuff to buy big stuff. Half the collection went for 5 grand which helped with the down payment on a house. Suddenly, I also got a bigger tax refend. Hmmm.... After my divorce, I went buying agian, this time on ebay. I had a box waiting for about two to three times a week, but I had no savings. Now, I hardly buy anything now because my wish list is very small. I have just about everything I want and not enough of a lifetime to build them. I do have savings, but now at 49 I am concerned about my retirement. So now I have to take time learn how the stock market works so my 401K is not longer tithed to billionaires. Scott Junkman- Amen.
  9. I really like this one! What a great combination of design elements. Great execution! Hats off to you, David!
  10. Figuring out how to make stuff. And finally trying something I never did before and screwing it up the first time, maybe the second, but sticking with it until I figure it out. After that I would say design. I love being creative and different. Really paying attention to line and pattern. Although... Once I made a master for a resin body. I saw one for sale later and asked the vendor how they were selling. He said not well. I asked why. He said one guy said they were ugly. Either you can't please everyone or I am kidding myself. Go figure. Here it is. Hosted on Fotki
  11. I would have to start with just finishing a project before I start another. And....While I mock up to excess, I still miss on the planning for parts fitting inside the body confines. Compound that by falling down the rabbit hole of detail and that equals not finishing a model in at least two years. After that, I have to go with paint. I have yet to really lay down a killer paint job. I don't have a great eye for color graphics.
  12. Wow! This is excellent! Great scratch building and engineering!
  13. How about a V-6 SOHC/SHO front blown Hosted on Fotki Or a twin Paxon Vette ZR1engine. Hosted on Fotki
  14. Twenty years ago I sold a little more than half my collection for about 5ooo. It took a while. I have since replenished and a bit more. Now I am thinking 10 to 15 grand for all the kits, parts and tools. It's a soft economy.
  15. The door mechanism is brilliant in its simplicity. I can see myself stealing that one. Great build overall too!
  16. I have been really enjoying this build. Great stuff!
  17. You nailed the proportions on this. Work of art. Well done!
  18. Been follwin' this one. WOW! Just keeps gettin' better.
  19. I wanna play. My earlist inspirations came form some very old issues of Car Modeler that my Pop brought home. Within those pages were contest issues that had outrageous designs I tried to copy. They also had the Ira Dunham Moon Cube trike, which helped me to try his scratchbuilt body technique on a trike of my own. I was about 12. I floundered around unti Hot Rod magazine ran thier contest. Then things got interesting again. On those pages were some outstanding works. I remember Terry Ross, Chuck Larsen, and Mike Flynn. I was about 23 or so, but still building in a void. When I moved to Sacramento I met Jerry Amaral. He really helped me with my building. I also went to my first NNL and met Mark Townsend. He showed me his welding styrene welding techique and explaned his thought process on custom bodies. He was also the first big name modeler I ever talked to - I was nervous. After that it became easier to appoach someone about thier builds. I have taken tips from a lot of memebers here, To name a few, but not all. Mike Turk (Rememeber the chain driven Nash Metro) told me about remaking items that you are not happy with. Steve Keck told me about the Micromark punch among other things. Mark Jones told me the eaiser way to lace up PE seat belt hardware. Dave Cummins gave me some great tips on fabbing small parts. John T always impresses me with his realistic finish on his tires and other parts. His speed is unnatural. Dirk Joseph is a fav, as is David Morton. My favorite modeling quip came form Andy Kellog. I was at an NNL struggling to repair a broken part. From behind I hear "If you did it once, you can do it again." Right now the builder that really blows me away is Randy Derr. Great guy to talk to. Loves the art of building and fabrication. Therre are a bunch ot other guys here that have helped and impressed me along the way. Sorry I don't have time to name them all. Scott
  20. You really nailed this one Bernard! The injectors are perfect.
  21. That was my high school ride. I followed he WIP with great interest. You did an excellent job! Scott
  22. Thanks for the kind word Brad. Thde rims are Herb Deeks items. I think the PE wires are still available, but he no longer sells the rims and hubs. I think the tires are kit items. I used them because they have the Perelli (sp?) lettering on the side walls. If you see the lettering then you know you are in. O rings aren't really a match for what they ran back then. They used treaded tires. Have fun. The Ramcharger chassis can be a challenge. I remember I made a new roll bar hoop. Scott
  23. WOW! The hits just keep commin' on this thread. Soo many cool models. Great stuff from every one. That 777 Comet really speaks to me. Something about the white injectors inside the body. Here is a Ramchargers 1964 rail. It is the first year they ran, hence no rear cowl. Looked long and hard that reference shot to make sure that was right. I also cross referenced a Don Garlits article where he said he got his fiberglass cowl at the end of the 1964 season. Scott Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
  24. Here is half a Revell Hemi. Hosted on Fotki And a blown Wankle (That's just fun to say.) Even though wankles are closer to being a six. But what the hey, Hosted on Fotki Scott
  25. Great stuff in this thread. I really like that yellow 57 done in the Revellion style. Here is an AFX racer from the archives. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
