Prock and Howell 1933 Willys Gasser
Scott Colmer replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Amazing, John. Aside form the great paint, you always, always capture the feel of the real car. Great stuff! -
I was ready to get back to work on a long running vette project when I got involved with another build off. As usual, box stock in 1 month turned to "This would be cool to make." and I wound up in the DNF category of the build-off. No problem. Been there before. I kept working on it. But then we decided to move. With so many houses in short sale, the fact was that we had to go to an apartment because the average short sale took 6 months to go through. I had to pack up the work bench and wait for better days. This is as far a I got. It's basically a Piranha chassis upgraded with hand made aluminum parts. There are still a few bolt heads, seat belts, and a throttle pedal to add. The engine is pretty close too. Scott Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki

I've been packing too.Yuck! Just sold the house and we will be moving to the next town over. We will be in an apartment during the transition. (Yuck again.) I got all my big boxes form the local hobby store and florist shop. The florist have these very sturdy long boxes that fit about 10 kits each. They used to be wider and could fit twice that. Jarius, That was the other issue that my Pop brought for me. You did a great job on the slot car from the Lee Gilbert how to. I only copied the clear wing. Great article. Here are the Holmes cover and a few more pages. Great stuff. Scott Hosted on FotkiHosted on Fotki Mr Boyd Hosted on FotkiI would love to see this in color now. Must be like wining the GSL. Hosted on Fotki And a bonus... This is the last Richard Carrol showing I know of ..NNL West early 80s. Some guys on the showrod site found him and posted some interviews a couple years ago. Interesting stuff. Hosted on Fotki -
Ode to article submitters
Scott Colmer replied to The Modeling Hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have that issue!!! I actually hunted for it on Ebay for quite a while until I found it. When I was 11 my dad brought that and a couple more issues home for me. He said someone was throwing them out so he saved them for me. WOW! What an influence those magazine had on me. At that time I was a 1 kit, 1 tube of glue, and 1 Saturday afternoon builder. Those magazine opened up a whole new world to me. I dreamt of building a contest model. The Moon Cube article by Ira inspired me to build my own trike body from sheet plastic. That radically shortened 40 Ford was copied in a 33 Sedan delivery and a 40 Sedan. The delivery lived to be cleaned up years later. Here are some of my favorites from that issue. Sorry, but I haven't scanned Tim Boyd's Washington best of show. And I do wonder what happened to Steve Anderson's Grand National Winner. I'll have to scan pictures and post in another thread. From the Magazine Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Reading Ira's article on the Moon Cube ... Hosted on Fotki Gave me the inspiration to build this trike from scraps of overhead lighting panels. The bumpy side was used for "fabric". All pretty crude, but I like what it meant and that I still have have it. Hosted on Fotki This Shorty 40.... Hosted on Fotki Inspired me to take a hack saw to a 33 Willys sedan. It was later resurected and with a LOT of clean up, made into this.. Hosted on Fotki Thanks for helping me remember that great mag and all the inspiration I took from it. Scott -

For those of you who compete......
Scott Colmer replied to Karmodeler2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have to agree with Mr. Jones on all his points. NNLs are suposed to be a show. A popular vote for best is in show is OK, but thats about it. Maybe some promoters or celebrity picks too. I have asked a judge to tell me why a model did not place higher at a show. I knew the judge and respected him. We also did this exchange on line. He posted a very detailed list of the flaws that knocked my model out of a top spot. I was surprised he actually caught them all - which means - Yes, I knew they were there. I built the model and I knew every time I decided to let a flaw go and take a chance. Good thread. ps Once me and a treckie friend had a very serious discussion about who is a bigger nerd - Model geeks or treckies. We both thought it was the other. How 'bout a hooters treckie? Scott -
Another masterpiece, Alyn. I really lIke how you are taking chances and experimenting with texture and patina. Great stuff!!! Scott

Go Speed Racer?
Scott Colmer replied to Rat Fink's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I LOVED watching Speed Racer as a kid. The original series is available on DVD. I've got the whole set It's amazing to see them now. They are a hoot on corny value alone. It's also great to see the Monster car and worlds fastest car (GRX) again. The Mach 5 and Racer X cars are available as 1/18 die casts. There is also have a decent set of Johnny Lightings w/ a few of the cars from specific episodes, like the GRX. The Imai models is way better that the Polar Lights. Polar lights is actually rear engine. I think they got the design specs from a 1980's computer game fact sheet. The Imai has the front engine which matches the cartoon series. It also has PE parts. Bill, that's a great scratch built M5. Not an easy body to replicate. And here's the 1:1 at the Petersen in SoCal. Sorry for the phone pic. Hosted on Fotki Scott -

Purple Pond Container
Scott Colmer replied to midwest 1953's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dont forget your tea bob the little parts. Otherwise you'll be fishing around for them. Oh, I use an old Q-tip container. Probably too small for body, but does the trick with the rest. Hosted on Fotki -
Beautiful. Excellent!!!! One of my favorite kits I never built. Scott
