1/25 Revell '29 Model A Roadster 2'n'1
horsepower replied to mrknowetall's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I forgot all about the Aerotech kit. But isn't that made as a mid engined car, if so it wouldn't be that hard to convert it to fit the A, there's also the Frontenac four banger from the release of the '27 T tub. -
Real or Model #231 FINISHED!
horsepower replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Hope you came home with all the parts you went in with. I guess I'm lucky, last couple of times they kept me longer than overnight I came home with more pieces than I went in with. -
Front belt goes around crank pulley, fan pulley and passenger water pump pulley. Rear belt goes around crank pulley, behind fan pulley, around generator pulley, and drivers side water pump pulley.

I bought a couple of the pearl white ones when K-B toy liquidators had them on clearance for $1.99. Figured I couldn't go wrong, also picked up a couple of convertibles, and two of the Dodges in bright red, and one in black, plan on putting the 413 from the AMT '49 Merc kit into it and use the optional hood with the factory scoop on it.

Going model this time, something just looks like it's painted in the separation of colors on the seat. -
What have I got myself into... Mustang Triple.

The front panels are different between the Shelby Mustangs and the standard 2+2, the front panels on the Shelby's are in real life a fibreglass piece, and never fit exceptionally well in full size. -
Oh yeah, there's still an Audi, and a Crown Vic' cop car for you to get him, then the Impala cop car would be the next step up the ladder. Don't give him time to discover video games, I have one seven year old grandson that shows some interest in models, but I'm having to drag him from his games, and then our daughter and her husband got a kindle fire for the six month old boy, and darn if he isn't trying to play the thing already. We're doomed unless we can keep them in a cocoon. lol

Remember, we're the males of the species, we don' need no stinking instructions, they're just someone else's idea of doing what we can without all the wasted time for reading.

Doesn't look like Hilborn it looks like a homemade setup, but really trick. Has electric fuel injection nozzles, and a fuel rail, appears to have throttle position sensor on shaft for butterflies. -
This has always been one of my favorite Roth cars, and yours is one of the cleanest, nicest builds I've seen in quite a while. Just a tip I learned a long time ago when I was painting real cars and was clear coating over pin stripes before they made the specific striping paint, use a very light coat for the first coat and allow it to dry the touch before adding another coat of clear.

If you really want to be tricky the Offy from the old AMT Watson Indy Roadster kit has a two speed transmission, not an in out box, the Indy cars and Champ cars used two speeds to get the cars up to speed after pit stops, and the Champ dirt cars had to be able to start and stop without assistance from a push vehicle. And the track noses with the PE grilles are from Model Car Garage, a few years ago it was rumored that they were dropping both the "A", and "T" noses from their line up and I bought a half dozen of each, then ended up using the nose from the Revellogram Edmunds kit and modifying the stock T hood from the AMT kit to build a Pinto powered street roadster that I would like to duplicate in 1:1 scale, C-4 auto, small V-8 quick change, sparse bench seat interior, half windshield, shorty roll bar made to resemble a CRA track roadster from the pre Sprint car days at Ascot Park. With injector tubes through the side of the hood, either from Weber carbs, or dummies from an under hood modified early Capri air cleaner box and dummy tubes, could still have a Holley four barrel to be a little better for streetability, and easier on the pocket book. -
Actually according to the Lowell Bayles biography, it was first believed that aileron flutter caused structural failure when the wing folded just outboard of the flying wires attaching point, but further frame by frame inspection of the crash film showed the gas cap coming off and crashing through the canopy, it is believed that caused Bayles to be knocked unconscious and pull back on the stick and at the estimated speed of 330 mph the wings didn't hold up to such a violent maneuver and resulted in structural failure. A further search of the flight path resulted in finding the gas cap beside the railroad tracks considerably before the crash site. The plane was destroyed in the crash and ensuing fire, but the violence of the crash resulted in the finding of Bayles body over 300 feet from the crash site.

Motorcraft equivalent, they could very easily be confused for a quadrajet. Could be that somewhere early in its life someone might have put a quadrajet on as a replacement, or the original motorcraft tag was removed and later owners think it's a quadrajet. -
Have you seen these?

Fun is a relative word here, some people think it's fun being walked on by a tall blonde in six inch heels, but I don't think it's for me. -

Those are technically not bumper guards on the '58 wagon, but license plate lights. I noticed that the plate lights are in the guards in the pictures of the '57 s too, but don't know how they're installed on the ones without guards since there's no pictures posted yet of one without guards. Well, I did the unthinkable and super difficult search for actual vehicles with the different options, and still can't see clearly how the plate lights are done on the plain Jane bumpers, but I do know that if it was up to me, I'd rather have the front and rear bumpers both without guards. Just my opinion but I think they look much cleaner that way. -
I've had pretty good luck using two different tools, one is a scraper that came from Harbor Freight in a set, it's about 1/4" wide with a slight angle to each end, and the ends are beveled to a sharp edge and the angle on each end is opposite to the other end so it's easier to get into different areas, the other one is a flat blade for Xacto #2 handles and I think it's supposed to be a gouge, but is for carving. It works good for me when I use it like a scraper, pulling it across the plugs instead of trying to cut them away by using the blade normally.

Just a warning to any and all considering using the two part urethane paints. THERE IS NO RESPIRATOR THAT REMOVES THE HARMFUL CHEMICALS FROM THE AIR, WHAT IS CONFUSING IS THEY CAN REMOVE THE SMELL AND GIVE YOU THE FALSE SECURITY. THE ONLY TOTALLY SAFE WAY TO PAINT THESE IS WITH A FRESH AIR MASK, BUT USING A GOOD FAN TO BLOW THE AIR AWAY FROM YOU, AND ONLY SPRAYING THEM OUTDOORS WILL WORK OUT FOR YOU SINCE WE ARE ONLY USING SUCH SMALL AMOUNTS AT A TIME. The reason I did this in caps is I was one of the first auto body painters to start using a lot of urethane paints when DuPont first released the Imron line in the late seventies, it was almost two years before finding out about the fact that the respirators didn't actually protect you from the harmful effects of those paints that I purchased a fresh air mask that uses a forced air mask, it took another two years before discovering that the effects of the chemicals are cumulative, I quit doing painting for a living in 1980, because I got tired of waking up feeling like someone was sitting on my chest. It hasn't completely gone away, but I still have problems, I can't smell some things that everyone else can, and my sinuses are a mess. It's been thirty five years ago that I stopped painting for a living and I'm still paying for the things we didn't know about urethane paints, I'm just trying to keep someone else from having the same problems I have.

We could have used some of your winter, we broke records for all time highs this last week, three straight days of new record highs of 78 degrees, but the past two days it was only 75. We were actually supposed to get rain the first week of March, but now they don't think it'll happen. Another summer with no water for our yards and no gardens again. We'll take all the loads of snow you can afford to truck out for our lakes.
