65 Mustang promod /streetracer coming soon
Brett Barrow replied to ShakyCraftsman's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I think he meant 1000 cubic inch. They called 'em mountain motors back in the day when Pro Stocks penalized big blocks so all these guys up in the mountains of VA, NC, GA, etc started building big 500ci+ monsters and match racing them. Plus they're as big as a mountain. -
Testor ModelMaster paint bottle lids
Brett Barrow replied to GerN's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have far more problems with the Tamiya/Gunze type sticking, to the point where I picked up one of these bad boys (made by Gunze but fits Tamiya): For Testors/MM/Floquil, I just invert the bottle and drop a couple drops of lacquer thinner with a pipette wait a few seconds and they come right off. Doesn't work as well on Tamiya/Gunze because of the big skirt on the cap. -
Gravity Colors, amazing service!
Brett Barrow replied to aurfalien's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
You have to do it again after it gets "stuck". It's not so much that you have updates enabled, it needs to send that fresh ping out across the system. We ship around 100 packages a day with USPS, sometimes 300+ We have a big truck come everyday and it picks up these big metal cages the USPS gives us. I don't know how much Gravity ships, but if you ship a lot they stick a special barcode on your door. When they pick your stuff up they don't scan every item, they scan that barcode and it's supposed to update every label you printed that day as picked up. If they forget to scan that barcode the tracking doesn't get updated. Or sometimes it's just a random glitch. Seems like I get at least one call or email everyday from someone whose tracking says awaiting pickup. I know it's not here, we don't leave anything. The thing is, it makes no sense for a business to print a label if they're not going to ship it right then, you pay for postage when you print the label. -
Revell 62 Impala conversion to a Bel Air?
Brett Barrow replied to Johnt671's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
To illustrate: Impala hardtop (new for GM '62, simulated look of convertible up-top) Bel Air (aka Bubbletop): Impala (bucket seats in an SS, regular Impala had bench w/ same pattern) Bel Air: Impala (on SS the tail panel would be engine-turned) Bel Air (IIRC AMT's is actually more like a Biscayne); -
Neat video! We carry that motor kit - https://www.megahobby.com/products/visible-working-porsche-911-flat-six-boxer-engine-w-electric-motor-sound-1-4-scale-franzis.html

Here's a trick that sounds totally bogus but it actually works. If you ever get a USPS package "stuck" somewhere on the tracking, request text or email updates. This does some sort of ping out through the USPS system and sometimes the package has moved but just hasn't updated the tracking. We use this trick on a nearly daily basis at work, it works like magic 90% of the time. On a personal note, I just had this happen to one of mine yesterday. I had some ScaleFinishes that had been sitting "label created but not picked up" in Utah since the 17th, I requested updates yesterday afternoon and now this morning guess what's out for delivery all the way in NJ? I guarantee you that's what happened when you contact the sender, they request updates and it makes the package appear like it started moving again. -

Revell Reissued 57 Chevy Black Widow wrong body ?
Brett Barrow replied to kingiguana's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
We got our corrected kits Monday, I forgot to update the thread. A whole batch of RoG semi trucks got F-14 decals a while back. It happens. All part of life's rich tapestry... -
1970 Corvette ZR1 Convertible (update 4/21 decal disaster)
Brett Barrow replied to Brett Barrow's topic in WIP: Model Cars
GM had plans to offer the L71 on full-size but scrapped it. My plan is to do a what-if tri-power, what the Z24 should have been. -

Brett Barrow replied to Brett Barrow's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yep. I got them today, I was just logging in to let you know. Thanks again! As for the Impala, I don't plan on doing anything major, just some MCG emblems. Reshaping and correcting stuff inevitably leads to me screwing it up so I keeps it simple. I have some Scale Finishes Tahoe Turq but that Testors teal is a real nice factory stock-ish color. I'm pretty sure it used to be Boyd's Chezoom Teal. I'm not a big stickler for total color accuracy (despite owning a bunch of color chip sheets) my theory is that 60s factory colors tended to fall into a certain tonal range and it's more important to have "the look" than be totally spot on. If it looks right, it is right is my philosophy. -
Yeah, he bulk ships to the States. The cheapest way to send anything from Canada with any kind of tracking is like $25 minimum. So he makes up a big batch and sends it to a guy in the states who breaks it up and sends each to the final recipients. Stuff can sit at customs for a while, too.

Favorite Instagram Accounts?
Brett Barrow replied to MegaHobby's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Instagram is great if you're looking for pictures of food and/or hot chicks in yoga pants. I do follow Round2's they make some product announcements on there. I forget I even have an Instagram until every once in a while I get a notification at 3am that some Russian bot liked something of mine from years ago. -
New wheel set from Pegasus: Shuey
Brett Barrow replied to Drago's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Pretty sure they're 19", they have a stock number (1279) in line with their other 19" wheels. This is the other new wheel I see listed, #1286 "Magnum" -
Didn't remember that one! Googling it and seeing that Pro-Street C4 takes me back, man i loved that kit. I built the Hot Rod Mag version with kit decals and some dark purple metallic Testors I mixed up for the Stingray III show car color. It was so sweet and so 80's... Maybe my favorite build I did as a kid.

Yeah, all the 68 roadsters have had the L88 plus the last (California Wheels) issue of the 69 coupe. It may have been an alternate in other coupe issues but I'm not 100% sure. The normal big block hood is rarer, only two boxings have had it, the original "429" red coupe and in yellow in one of the 3-kit sets. I actually have all the parts collected for a ZL1 somewhere in the stash, just wanted an OOTB ZL1 finally. They've never had the right combination of hood, sidepipes, wheels and mustache stripe at the same time. When I get one after our regular stock comes in in a couple weeks (I have to pay full price if I buy an RPP kit) we'll set up a trade, it's always good to have options.

Yeah, Revell doesn't have the best track record with tampo printed tires. I don't know why they get it so wrong while Round 2 gets it so right. I'm sure they'll replace bad ones. Yep, two hoods. Standard big-block hood and Baldwin-Motion style. My only real gripe with the kit is that I think they should have done the L88 hood instead of the BM (the L88 engine parts are in there) so I can do the ZL1.

1970 Corvette ZR1 Convertible (update 4/21 decal disaster)
Brett Barrow replied to Brett Barrow's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Funny you should mention that... This one is in the primer stage right now thanks to the wheels Snake is sending me. But it might wind up Tahoe Turquoise with black or maybe teal interior, I havent totally made up my mind yet. -
1970 Corvette ZR1 Convertible (update 4/21 decal disaster)
Brett Barrow replied to Brett Barrow's topic in WIP: Model Cars
More progress, interior painted! Here's the hood next to my chip for 1969 Can-Am White (renamed Classic White for 1970). The 1:1 color is surprisingly greenish. I'm lucky enough not only to have a full set of 1969 GM exterior paint chips, but I also have a full set of 1969 interior colors (which were actually thrown into a totally unrelated set of 1966 Chevy chips that I bought off eBay). I don't think the blue interior changed for 1970 since the exterior color it was matched to didn't change (LeMans Blue was simply renamed Mulsanne Blue). I mixed around 25% of #8 Silver into #76 Metallic Blue (all Mr Color) to tone it down a bit, I think I got pretty close! I'm loving this color combination! Stay tuned! -
Yep, they're the Monogram GT Radials Luggage rack is molded in one piece, which saves having to glue chrome to chrome like on the one in AMT's 1972 Vette Decal sheet is really nice, they even made an attempt at the backup lights and trim rings on the taillights. (26 & 27) All in all a very welcome reissue to a C3 junkie like me!
-
I'll check (if I have any left tomorrow) but I think they're the same old GT Radials. I think the yellow car was maybe built from an old issue with lettering and they turned them around. The back side always had a weird step where the tread meets the sidewall. It's one Revellogram tire that I'm glad got wiped clean, I never could make those raised outlines look good!

Yeah, Ed's cab is mastered from the new-tool Revell coupe.
