Ah, There is quite a bite of documentation and tutorials if you bother to look. You have to be industrious and look for it. Man, what I put up with.

Paint drying time

Donn, if you noticed, I gave full credit to your dvd for teaching the basics of successful airbrushing no matter what the paint. I owe a great deal of gratitude to you for showing the basics of a good, no great paint job thu an airbrush. I thank you. -
I have use GIMP quite successfully many time. It's a good program. Since i am not using a Mac or Windoz OS, I don't know what your problem could be. This message brought to you via Chrome on Linex UBUTU 10.10

Welcome to the forum and nice work on the restoration. I especially like the fact that you left the REVELL, INC 1956 on the bottom. It validates the release of this kit and , in my opinion, should be left alone.

Paint drying time
my66s55 replied to sportandmiah's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Go to the topic "Question for the Florida guys" and see my last post. I got the ideas for what paint to use from an article in SAE. Don't remember who wrote it but I think it was Bob Downey. I use almost all acrylic paints with great success. Donn's dvd help me out unbelievably. As the maniac guy, you know you have got to be a little crazy to live down by the Everglades says, keep it simple . It took me quite some time to learn how to get the results I wanted from acrylic. Just apply the principles from Donn's disk and you will be successful. But, as Donn mentioned, acrylics are a bit different. -

I have the Duesenberg SJ roadster the Packard Boattail Speedster, the Rolls Royce roadster by Brewster and the Duesenberg Weyman Torpedo Phaeton as well as the Cord above. There also was a 1931 Rolls Royce phaeton and a Packard Speedster.

I believe there may be a misunderstanding as to which Yorktown this model is. Unless I read my research incorrectly, plus being a big WWII buff, this is a model of The first Yorktown built in 1937 and sunk as a result of action in the battle of Midway. I have read that the Revell model is this one the CV-5. The one in Dave's reference is the CV-10 built I believe in1943. Here is a link to the CV-5. http://www.navsource...hives/02/05.htm

Tom, you asked me to re-post these pictures and now you have them. Bring back memories of your days at Clark Mike? My station never got robbed but it was hard keeping a night shift employee.

Ditto to what Roger said. When ordering from Modelhaus, you have to be aware of this fact. Porky probably used the model to cast from. -

jo han question
my66s55 replied to fredgsanford's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The only way, imho, you're going to get anything decent is to do as I did. Shop e-bay cause you know you'll get it, or maybe some of the re-sellers may have some. I have quite a few Jo-Han kits and this is how I got them. You might even find some here by posting in the wanted section. One never knows. -
I don't have a Mac. Don't have Microsoft either. Don't get any virus, trojan or computer hijack either and Google isn't all over the place. Simply a fast machine running flawlessly.

Really Mike. Chrome works great for me and ie anything doesn't work at all. Thank goodness.

Not a bad start. Extend the brick across the showroom wall and make a door casing for the door to the back room. There is also a door that closes.

If you put paper towel on the bottom of the container it will help wick it off.

Make your own parts . . .
my66s55 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Why couldn't a person still scratch build if they wanted? Imagine this. You want to make that Bugatti. You could buy a die cast one and resin cast it. The last time I checked, it cost me about $50 to do this with a promo and yes, I had to learn how to do it. Instead you take a webcam (demo on utube)or iPhone and take a 3D picture scan of what you want to make. This will cost you $.99 using the iPhone. Then you put the picture into 3d software on you computer, turn on the 3d printer and go have a cup of coffee. Check this out:http://www.trimensional.com/,http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/trimensional-a-3d-scanner-for-iphone-using-just-an-app-2011016/. By the way, my 3D software didn't cost me anything. Blender 3D software is very good and open source plus cross platform. With the open source community involved in the development of these printers, it won't take long for progress. They are now printing with metal and making circuit boards complete with solder. To learn about open source go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_source. -
Make your own parts . . .
my66s55 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you are energetic, you can build your own machine for around $500.00 or less. There is an open source machine that reproduces some of its own parts. It prints an object up to 8"x8"x5 1/2". You'll find it on google by searching for reprap mendel. Open source is a great thing. My operating system is open source and makes Windoz look sick. You can also search reprap on ebay for parts. -
