  1. Thank you very much Chas, your input has be very helpful. I made a decision to order MirraChrome earlier today after finding this article on the web late yesterday. http://mysite.verizon.net/slmajor1/restorationchrome.html He compared Alcad, MirraChrome and Kosmic Krome from House of Kolor in a test he did. Xotic compares itself with House of Kolor so I automatically related the two. Anyone interested can find MirraChome at:http://www.kustomrides.com/home.php As little an amount as 1/2 ounce can be purchased. I ordered 1 ounce for 25.00 plus shipping. The price of it is worth it for the chance to see if I can make it come out right.
  2. Actually, the manufacturer http://www.xoticcolours.com/aboutus.htm is in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The retailer is in Omaha, Nebraska and the clear is two component poly urethane.
  3. Ah yes, the old cost factor. Matt, if you break down the cost for this product, Spazstix Ultra Chrome and Alclad II by the ounce the price per ounce = This product 8.25 Ultra Chrome 6.50 Alclad II 6.00 range The 8 oz bottles @ 89.00 are even cheaper @ less than 6.00 per ounce. My question was posed to see if anyone had any experience with this product. My purpose for it is two fold. I have a lot of chrome and bright work on my 1966 full size Mercury S55 convertible that is in dire shape. This may be a viable alternative to plating and thus save me money. I also would like to find an alternative to Alclad II and Ultra Chrome that can be clear coated.I think it would look great on models. Jim, I will be purchasing the 4 oz supply in the near future. Yes, it pretty much states that it is an Alsacorp type product.
  4. I stumbled across this site and thought it interesting. I don't like the looks of foil and Alclad seems to be a problem for many so I'm considering this as an option. Here's the web site: http://www.innate.com/Paint/Chrome/Chrome.htm
  5. A quick search found the Hemmings website for the Willys, Overland, Whippet registry web page and confirmed that it is indeed a Willys Overland Knight. The radiator cap was the giveaway as it is a knight on a horse. That cap was put on the models 66B, 70B and 87. I only found pictures of the 66B which is a match except that the car in question has bi plane bumpers and the 66b has tri plane ones. http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/wokr/gallery/gallery19.htm
  6. I spray a lot of acrylic. My method: I use craft paints-Liquitex, Apple Barrel Liquitex Airbrush medium 10% of mix volume water 25 psi Paasche H airbrush - if the airbrush starts to clog, adjust the needle up and down until paint starts to flow again light coats at first, one wet coat to finish This works for me every time.
  7. I can tell you who made a model of one as I have one in my stash. It's in 1/32 scale. The box is about 8"x11"x2" and was marketed by Revell. The outside of the box has a copyright mark followed by 1985 by Revell, Inc. Venice Ca-Molded by GUNZE SANGYO, Ind. Japan. It can be built as a hardtop or convertible and also has the hard cover that can be put over the rear seats. I purchased it from ebay about 7 or 8 years ago.
  8. My screen saver-a 1937 Delehaye 135 roadster with F & F coachwork.
  9. Another good source for pics is Hemming Motor News cars for sale ads at Hemmings.com.
  10. The only ones I know of are resin ones from the Modelhaus. Go to modelhaus.com
  11. I bought a 49 Ford off e-bay pre 911 that I didn't receive. It showed up on my porch during the anthrax scare when they searched the post offices.
  12. I have 16 if you are counting finished. 4 were started last year. There are five more in various stages that I expect to have done by year end.
  13. You are absolutely correct Gary. The 1966 Mercury did not come with a 427. I didn't want to get into all that but, since you did, I will elaborate. The names Marauder(410) and Super Marauder(428) where given only to the engines. There was no model named as such. Instead, the name S55 was used as a model along with Monteray, Montclair and Parklane. It is correct that the brochure shows the engines as black, but most people paint them Ford engine blue. Below is my engine bay. This is a side view. Note the S55 emblem on the rear quarter panel.
  14. Ford engine blue. My daily driver is a 1966 Mercury S55 convertible with a 428. The battery also mounts just behind the grill on the passenger of the fender
  15. I apply Future with either an airbrush, paint brush or foam brush. The brush can be any size needed. I use a 1" foam brush for bodies.
  16. I just used Krylon Fusion on bare plastic on a Monogram model. There were no problems.
  17. I second getting Donn Yost's video. It fixed my paint mistakes after one viewing.
