  1. They seem to be linked to some external hosting site. If you have the picture files on your computer, you can put them directly into the postings and we'll store them here. Send me a PM if you want to edit them.
  2. Welcome to the forum. I like that both you and your girlfriend build. Do you both work on everything, or do you each have your specialties?
  3. Kyocera and Mitutoyo make excellent tools. Mitutoyo is almost the equivalent of Starrett. e.g. more than good enough for my purposes.
  4. I tweaked the settings. I'm getting to viscerally hate Google Ads.
  5. It's not just you. I noticed it this afternoon. What kind of device were you using? It still seems to be okay on desktop.
  6. I have a set of those. They are great! Been using them for a very long time. I've broken one or two, which I'll ascribe to carelessness on my part.
  7. Yes. You will have to reset your password via the "Forgot Password" facility. It will probably invalidate any dormant sessions, but you can just log back in.
  8. I got off to an odd start. My first science fiction book was The Moon Era. I was in the third grade when I read it. (I know, I was precocious, and my sister loved feeding me things I shouldn't be able to read.) After that, I read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I'd already seen the Disney version of the movie and loved it. Both those books had a profound influence on the direction of my reading. After that it was a steady stream of Isaac Asimov science and science fiction books, until one of my friends turned me on to Heinlein. Concurrent to this was a large stack of science books and Scientific American magazines. Somewhere in there, I read Siddhartha, and that book sent me down another path with lifelong influences.
  9. Management is not going to be happy about this, that's for sure.
  10. I'm sorry to hear of your health issues. You'll always be welcome here.
  11. It should. It isn't the operating system as much as the browser. IE11 is insecure, and getting less supported as time goes on. There are some good technical reasons for this. IE11 is also a terrible browser. You'll have some adjustments to make, but once you do, I think you'll find yourself a lot happier. I'd also note that there are no more routine security updates and your system is more or less wide open to being hacked. I see there's an update you have to install manually. But, I recommend you update to something current. If you're connected to the Internet, you are getting probed all the time.
  12. If this happens again, just report the post and put where you think it should go in the report.
  13. I just went through the release notes for the new version of forum software. I can tell you that there will be some significant changes in the forum interface, but I'm also pretty sure you'll like them. They've clearly thought carefully about how the boards get used, and found ways to legitimately make them better. This is unusual in the industry, and I'm impressed with both what they've changed and the thought that went into it. Support for Internet Explorer 11 has been removed from the new version. There are lots of good reasons for this, and if you're using Internet Explorer now, you should upgrade to the current version of a modern browser. Most people here are using FireFox, Chrome, Safari, or Microsoft Edge. Those browsers will continue to be supported. It will probably be a month or so before I upgrade, so you have time. Any of the above browsers will be a major improvement over IE11. They will import your bookmarks, and perhaps even your stored passwords. FireFox is my personal favorite for its emphasis on privacy, and general robustness. But any of the above browsers are good. If you have questions, leave them in a comment below.
  14. I've noticed a lot of good quality builds too. Our site traffic as been increasing, we're getting more new users, and with the pandemic, people are staying home. Good thing we have something to keep us occupied. ? Yes, we have some superstar builders, but there are a lot of people doing nice builds, and the plethora of those make this site very enjoyable. No doomscrolling here.
  15. I tweaked some settings. Let me know if it helps.
  16. I’m so sorry. I hope you find comfort in the days ahead.
  17. This just makes me wonder. If the economics of the products aren't there, why did you buy the company in the first place? You always pay a premium over the real value. The executives of the target companies love this because they get a lot of money in the process. But none of this makes sense for the acquiring company. If their market position was that tenuous, it's much easier to let them fail, then swoop in and buy them out of bankruptcy or liquidation. Maybe someone needed a company sale on their resume? (Don't laugh. I've seen some catastrophic technical decisions made on this exact basis. )
  18. I agree, but I didn't come up with this nomenclature.
  19. We have to balance the desire for granular classification with the need for a site that's sufficiently easy to navigate. There are many ways to classify model cars; type, brand, scale, and probably a few others I haven't thought about. Given that some of them are independent of one another, a complete classification system would be unworkable. We have enough problems with pickup trucks, and don't even start about El Caminos, and Torinos. We were agreed that the old system wasn't working as well as we'd like, so Xingu came up with current system. It's definitely better, albeit not perfect. I think eventually we'll define a tag system to capture some of the other characteristics, like scale, and then we can design our own feeds. We're not to where we can do that yet, but we intend to. In the case of Big Boyz, we decided that scale was secondary to subject. Mike has been moving topics to the appropriate subject, so the posts are not gone, just reclassified. He recently completed that mammoth task, and I deleted the subform last night. You haven't been able to post there since we completed the reorganization a few months ago. We know it isn't perfect, but we do think it's better. Hopefully, you are finding it's better too. The Other Racing category is doing well, and was clearly one of the home runs. We will keep working on making things better.
  20. All done. Turns out I didn't have to take the board offline.
  21. This is a bit of an experiment. We wanted to have a specific place where people could get the latest status on the magazine, and other efforts to improve our content. Our goal here is to be open, and keep you informed. This is also a place where you can ask about future directions, or share your ideas. This is not a place to discuss subscription issues. If you have any issues or questions, please contact either myself or Larry Greenberg (larrygre) All the normal forum rules apply here. If you haven't looked at them lately, please review them. Most importantly, be respectful and polite. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
  22. I need to take the board offline for about 20 minutes.
  23. Maybe you can involve the older one. I once built a Tamiya Ferrari kit with my daughter. I did the assembly and painted the body. She did most of the detail painting. It wasn't contest quality, but she did a very good job, and it was a fun build for us.
  24. Good evening everyone, I know that in the US, and indeed elsewhere, there are a lot of political happenings. But, for a lot of very good reasons, we don't allow political discussions, rants, slogans, dialectics, manifestos, policy statements, policy studies, issue white papers, or diatribes here. They generate a lot of heat, but very little light, and I don't know about the rest of you, but I get plenty of that elsewhere. Let's keep it that way. Thanks, Dave Ambrose
