  1. For a "real life" car scale wouldn't matter.
  2. Tim, are Pasteiner's or the Model Cave going to stock your book?
  3. Hmmmm, maybe I'll check out the HLs in my area.Might be worth a trip even though I have 99% of what they stock.
  4. I was re-reading an article in an old issue of Scale Auto about the development of the kit and it mentioned how the wheelbase differed from the Dart and Duster versions of the cars so AMT compromised on the wheelbase.
  5. The Detroit Area Auto Modelers show scheduled for November 2020 has been cancelled because of the pandemic. The college where we stage our show is holding no events for at least the rest of the year. Crossed fingers that our Spring 2021 show happens.
  6. It would seem to me that it would have made more sense to release the coupe first this time. I would think that the people who bought the roadster first during the prior release already have the quantity that they want and missed the coupe since it had such a short earlier run.
  7. I saw the raised spots but they're not in the same place on each side of the frame. I had attached the lower arms/ torsion bars first as a placement guide which didn't help. That's why the thing sits in the box, unfinished.
  8. How much difficulty did you have building the front suspension? That's what's been stopping my completion of this kit. There are no indicated mounting points for the upper control arms.
  9. I don't think it's only me that sees the irony in a metal Corvette.
  10. The Model Cave in Ypsilanti carries the Mr. Color bottle paints. FYI, Tamiya TS 49 spray is, if not a dead match, so close you probably can't tell the difference.
  11. Aren't the lion decals a load of fun??
  12. My fault for not being 100% clear. I was referring to Tamiya TS-29 spray versus Testor #28156 lacquer semi gloss spray.
  13. Testor semi gloss black is noticeably more glossy than Tamiya's semi gloss black.
  14. Nice build. I just finished this same kit last week; My first build of an AMT stock car kit. Unlike you I had no decal issues, which was a welcome surprise with 30 year old decals. I also managed to get the front of the body to sit nicely low by making sure that the radiator cleared the upper radiator panel. I do wonder what vintage chassis AMT used to produce those kits. The front shocks are in an incorrect position and the dashboard layout isn't the same as the pics on the box of the real car. What paint did you use for your build? I used Tamiya TS 34 which is very close to correct. I have an old bottle of TruMatch Kodak Yellow that I used to touch up a few small areas and you can't really see a difference.
  15. I bought the Revell '69 Chevelle and the AMT Autocar A64B for birthday presents to myself.
  16. I got my SAE renewal yesterday, chuckled about it for a moment, and then round filed it. I'll only take up FSM if the amount of auto model content in it equals what was published in SAE. Not likely to happen, I know.
  17. Moebius never had them. I was told that those those particular Jo-Han molds were / are in the possession of someone in the eastern U.S. and Moebius couldn't get the desired legal assurance of exact ownership for them and efforts to keep in contact with the possessor came to naught.
  18. You might be able to use the Rothman's script but I wouldn't bother with the blue body decals. The Italeri front body is VERY different from the Tamiya version. You might want to go with Studio 27 or another decal maker.
  19. It was yesterday but I made progress on the first AMT NASCAR stock car I've ever worked on past washing and sanding parts. I'm doing the 1990 Morgan-McLure Kodak Oldsmobile. It's only taken me 30 years to do this.
  20. Here's a hint- If you have one of the Revell lowrider series kits take the wire wheels from it and put them on the Honda. They're the right size and look pretty good on the model.
  21. Going waaaaaaaaaaay back, the silent movie "Wings" made in 1927 had a huge automotive gaffe. The early part of the movie takes place before the start of America's involvement in WW1 so circa 1916. One of the heroes builds a Model T speedster but the car they use is from the early 1920s. Much newer was an episode of Jay Leno's Garage where they chronicle the build of his '66 Toronado with the Corvette frame under it. The opening scenes show them rolling a Toronado off of a trailer to begin the build. It's a 1967 Toronado! Jay's car was at the Detroit Autorama and I asked one of the GM booth guys about it. He said I was one of the few who caught that. It seems that they had already started to build the '66 before the filming began and they wanted to show the build from the beginning so they fudged it.
  22. Tamiya's Pure Red is the same shade as Testor 1203 red. And don't waste time or money on Tamiya pink primer. Unless you're using a transparent red ( which renders the same red as TS-49) it won't make any difference under a solid red. I know because I tried the pink under some TS-49 and white under the TS-49 and it made no difference.
  23. Yes, it is a deal. Cheaper than if I got them overseas with the shipping added in.
