  1. I bought two of the Tamiya Mustang GT4 kits and some paint.
  2. I think it was called the Jeep X-1 concept. Memory is so fleeting.
  3. It's a level 4 kit because of the major surgery it would take to make it look as good as the newer 1/25th scale kit.
  4. The windshield height/ side window height relationship is definitely off. Hope they fix it before regular production. And that funny kick up at the lower quarter window doesn't look to be easily remedied. A convertible will solve both of those issues.
  5. Though not photo etch, those covers are in the Pennzoil PC-7 kit. Story goes that Rick Mears sensed that they affected the way the car raced so he had the crew leave them off after an early pit stop.
  6. Pulling Saturday work duty. I knew not much would be happening so I brought a Ferrari Enzo snap kit to work on.Alas, I was hoping to make more progress than I did. I saw that the nose piece, the outside mirrors, and two body side pieces are a distinctly different shade of red than the rest of the body so now I'll have to paint the body assembly later on.
  7. Right now it's beyond MY skill level, too! That's one of the reasons I haven't yet begun the work.
  8. I have that kit in my stash. My plan is to take the engine from the 1984 Toyota Tom's prototype and use in the Supra. Yes, that a 4 cylinder in there-I think it was peculiarity of the Japanese series rules.
  9. I bought one of those Coronados. Mine's a flash laden mess. Beware.
  10. This is a good example of how the different model companies interpret the shape and size of the pieces of a kit. Those windshields should be identical.
  11. Hinge the tail at the bottom and have the gate window work as standard- just like a Kaiser Traveler.
  12. It was yesterday but I finished another long ago started kit; this one is the reissued MPC Chuck Miller Fire Truck. I corrected the engine's valve covers to represent the Chevy that comes in the kit, not the Ford engine of the real car that's illustrated on the box art( the kit is based off of the old AMT King T), put in a steering wheel rather than the kit's tiller and used the King Bee headlamps from the Revell '32 Ford coupe. It's not one of my best efforts, but it's done.
  13. I finished two models I started quite a while ago- a Tamiya Ferrari Mythos and an MPC '50 Mercury.Build numbers 4 and 5 for the year. Plus I did more work on the Revell re-box of the leftover Accurate Miniatures Corvette Grand Sport so now it's about 50% done. I'm glad that I have 4 of the Accurate Miniatures boxings. Their instructions are much better than the Revell instructions.
  14. I'm sold on the Tamiya putties. Here's an off the wall experience; For some 1/43 resin Ferraris I built years ago I used regular old Testor's putty( the one everybody hates for everything) and I worked out great! It smelled like the resin bodies and over the years it has never shrunk down.
  15. Yes, all of them. Downriver Model Car Club, Detroit Area Auto Modelers, Eastside Modelers, and U.D.M.C.C. are all on hiatus.
  16. How did you resolve the dash/ interior panel fit issue( for those who don't know, the GTO dash is a bit too narrow for the Chevelle interior pieces and the Malibu dash is a different shape at the cowl)?
  17. I've sprayed clear lacquer over old decals. I used the Testor Wet Look clear and it worked just fine. Using Tamiya TS-13 is more problematic given its reputation for ruining even fresh decals.
  18. I used to like doing decals but with the current, very thin, decals I get very frustrated at their tendency to fold over onto themselves.
  19. I have several kits that were from slot car guys who used the bodies and related pieces for their projects. Everything else is in the kits so they're a great source of parts.
  20. Lacquer on lacquer is fairly easy. Mask off the the rest of the body, sand down the hood and re-shoot the color on the hood only. Then polish as necessary when completely dry.
  21. Paints on my bench? Whatever spilled there
  22. I'm deemed an essential worker because I procure parts for municipal vehicles for the city of Detroit so it's work as usual for me. I just don't venture out after coming home. I'll be doing my regular Saturday shopping but probably not much else. I'm comfortable being by myself( I wish it was different but I'm used to the way things are for me) and I can keep busy if I desire.
  23. The Chicken Little syndrome has struck. Because of the Covid 19 scare, our show on 3-29-20 HAS BEEN CANCELLED by the college where the show is held. The Detroit Area Auto Modelers club is EXTREMELY disappointed about this but this wasn't our decision. We have no alternate venue available but plan to have our NNL and toy show this November at our usual location.
