Wow, that took a lot of work to get the parts into good order. I've been seeing that with a lot of Revell products of late. Especially considering the prices, I find it a bit upsetting. I used that shade of almond (older American Accents satin, not the textured paint) for the interior on my stock '32 Model B roadster. It's a nice color, and a good choice, I think. The real open '32s had that, and I suspect a lot of the closed cars did, too. Any thoughts on exterior colors and wheels yet, Wayne? I'm thinking something like silver undercoat topped with Testors Sapphire Blue (which is ever-so-slightly transparent) might look nice. Charlie Larkin

New project, resurrecting a '60 Ford Wagon Glue-Bomb.

Can't get into the rims...I hate those huge 18-20"+ wheels on anything that doesn't have separate fenders and (usually) bespoke coachwork. I CAN, and do, however, get into the rest of the build. Charlie Larkin -
Now that looks nice. I always liked black/red. Charlie Larkin

Very nice work, Geoff. But we know to expect nothing else from you. Charlie Larkin

Jeremy- not a bad start. Be patient and you'll get there. Bill- nice XK-SS. Charlie Larkin

I've never seen that happen with any lacquer thinned Testors paints, although I suppose it could be possible. I would suspect air caused this. I have had that happen. After putting thinner on the paint to help keep the bottle full, I would suggest storing the bottle upside down, which acts as a very effective air barrier. Charlie Larkin

Steve, that really is a great build. I like the antenna. What did you use for making the mast and the bezel at the base? I was also wondering how you got the inner telescoping part to stay put- a bend with glue inside the fender? Charlie Larkin

I have a '74 molded in purple. Yours inspires me to get that one done. Charlie Larkin

Unfolding over the last week, I didn't get admitted into UMASS-Amherst's day MBA, which would have been a free ride save about $1000 over two years. They'll take me for the night program, but there's no tuition assistance available, just loans I don't want right now- got enough of those. This, however, was offset a little by UMASS Lowell, who will admit me for fall, and might still be able to get me a grad assistantship, which they offer for day, night and online courses. I'm meeting with them Thursday to assess my options. The end goal for me to continue working in education is to at least adjunct at the community colleges, which I think is where I fit best interest-wise and academically; I need the second piece of paper to do it, though. As it happens, where I might have to teach another year of high school (*GAG!*) UML might be better because it's within driving distance of all the schools that have had openings so far this year. I suppose it's a case of one door closes, another opens. Charlie Larkin

While over for dinner, I had to explain to my friend's (much younger) wife the whole significance of Memorial Day, and why it started as "Decoration Day" and why my parents took most of the day not only remembering our veterans (a large number in my family, dating back to the Revolution and War of 1812- on both sides of the fight, on my dad's side of the family,) but our family also gone before us. This, despite her husband having been in the Navy, enlisting right before we graduated high school in 1993. We must never forget the reason we pay homage to all our military personnel- active and retired, living and dead. For without them, America would not exist, and most assuredly if it did, it would be far worse. Thank you to each of you who have served who are here with us. And prayers for grants of eternal peace to those not. Charlie Larkin

The Hindustan Ambassador, which has been unchanged for over fifty years, and was minimally changed from its 1949 introduction, may have finally ended production. http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2014/05/27/production-world-oldest-new-car-halts/ Charlie Larkin

Best Father's Day present ever?
charlie8575 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you can afford that, you can proabably afford to either trailer it to a nice quiet country road somewhere, and give 'er a little exercise or rent a closed course for a couple of hours and drive a leisurely 60-65 miles and hour and keep it run that way. I dunno...Dad wouldn't like it. Not a purple fan and never really seemed too interested in E-bodies. Now, if I could find him a nice 318-powered '68 Charger like he had, Avanti or a Hawk GT, he might be interested. Charlie Larkin -
Missed this one first time around. Very nice indeed. Charlie Larkin

Now that is pretty! Felix, I'm curious- how did you go about making the decals? I have my own police build I want to do, and I'm trying to get that sorted out now. Charlie Larkin

Very cool aftermarket taillights
charlie8575 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wonder if someone makes these for the Roadmaster 4-doors? I always thought those would look good with sequential turn signals, and it would probably be much easier (and possibly less money) to use LEDs instead of trying to rig up a timer-delay with regular bulbs. Come to think of it, they'd look pretty good on the Fleetwoods with those long, skinny vertical tailights- sort of like a neon sign. Charlie Larkin -
One more reason all regulations should be released for public comment.... But I digress. I find I like the cans, actually. I find they generally keep the paint better. I remember someone advising putting a small amount of thinner on the paint in the can, and that helps stop the dry-out. Worst case, as long as what's in there is at least sort of liquid/paste, I've found some paint thinner usually brings it right back after stirring for a minute or two. I do like Humbrol, too. Some of the best paint I've used period. Charlie Larkin

Saturday with my Grandson
charlie8575 replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Looking forward to the pictures of this. My parents' friends of about their age or a little older love doing all kinds of stuff with their grandkids, and my friends who have children for the most part like them doing things with them. My parents have only me, and well, I never got married or anything like that, but I try to make up for it with my friends' kids a little. Charlie Larkin -

Neat little van; I wonder if any ever got imported to the U.S.? I might go seek one of these out when the mood strikes and the money allows. Charlie Larkin
