Where's the Buzz? New tool Hyundai!
charlie8575 replied to Erik Smith's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It's a Hyundai, not a Datsun, Lee. I might actually grab one of these. If I had to do foreign, Hyundai is really about the only car I'd consider, and the Azera is a very nice car. Charlie Larkin -
SKILLS USA is a great competition. Unfortunately, around here, only the vocational high schools seem to do anything with it, and even then, it's not all of them, because some of them are run by nincompoops. As Bill said, and as an ex-teacher (who might be going back,) I couldn't agree more. The lack of competence for not just skilled craft labor, but for handling day-to-day tasks period is falling at an alarming rate, and we MUST fix this. In marketing, a recent development has been what's called a "product evangelist," who, like a religious evangelist, has a mission of spreading the word and converting people to sales. Jason, you and your friends in those IA classes need to be practical skills evangelists. Demonstrate the great advantages to your peers of being able to do things like fix stuff, and show them the ability to have fun with them, like SKILLS USA. Win converts to practical, applied education and the joys of being able to do things for yourself. Congratulations and best wishes for next year. Charlie Larkin

Nice job on the under-hood padding. And a nice color on that, too. Looks like something that wouldn't grab your attention until it whizzed past you. Charlie Larkin

Looks good, Randy. I missed this before, don't know how that happened. Charlie Larkin

Nice work. On the Jo-Han kits (and most others) with plastic axles, I learned at a very early age (about 8) to replace them with brass tube or wooden dowels. Simply cut them to length. Infinitely stronger. Charlie Larkin

Sending out a BIG THANK YOU...!

It was nice to meet you, Rich, and Tom. It was also nice to see the Fleetline. That's going to be a real beauty all buttoned up. I'm only sorry I missed John's Barracuda; I couldn't quite work my way over to the table in time (that misplaced lens ate up a lot of time)- hoping he'll bring it to LIARS' show. Charlie Larkin -
Dave, it was nice to meet you, albeit briefly, and the projects you have going are really a treat to see. I wish you nothing but success with them. I do have one question- will the Hudsons be able to be built stock as well as racing cars? Charlie Larkin

A forty thousand dollar optional color?? Do I even want to know how much a touch-up vial of that costs?? Makes me wonder what GM, Ford and Chrysler are doing wrong with their tri-coats at $400-1000. It is a pretty color, I must admit. The interior is nice, too. I like how you made the Bible. A very authentic touch. Very nice work so far. Charlie Larkin

So far, so good. The story is coming along nicely. The repair looks good, too. Charlie Larkin

It was well worth the trip...even including going over the GW Bridge to get over to Long Island....(what a mess!) Some absolutely great stuff on the table- it was a pleasure to see it all. More importantly, it was a pleasure to see once more, and meet, several people from the forums and other modeling-related activities I frequent. I got home earlier this afternoon- long ride home. Film's at CVS now and will be ready tomorrow. I'll post pictures then. Just saw that flyer from John. Both a Cat and a Ventura- didn't notice that on mine. That'll be cool. I hope the Hudsons have stock parts in them. Charlie Larkin

The Comet I'm not so hot for... The Ford pickups, Pontiacs (did I misread something at NNL or are they doing the Ventura and Catalina as separately-trimmed cars, or just the Ventura, which was a Catalina sub-series?,) the Satellite and both Hudsons, along with the '52 convertible I still want to get. I was very impressed with what I was seeing. Charlie Larkin

Very cool. That 'Vette looks pretty good. I might go grab one myself. Charlie Larkin

Go John, go! I pulled off final assembly last night at 2:00 AM before a little sleep and a drive down from Massachusetts. You can do it! Can't wait to see it on the table. Charlie Larkin
