Blower Bentley reborn.

I would if I could. Charlie Larkin -
I visited with an old friend earlier this week who has an even older house (1774, and no that's not a typo,) and he happens to be a Licensed Construction Supervisor (known to most people as a General Contractor,) and he presented an interesting idea...take out around where you need to get at for wiring, etc., and then 1/4" Sheetrock on the plaster, tape and skim-coat. As I said to him, given how badly the plaster is crumbling, I'm not sure if I like the idea or not of straight over it, but it would save quite a bit in disposal fees and labor. Any of you pros ever try it like that? Charlie Larkin

I just saw this, Jim. I'm very sorry. I hope this finds you doing better with it. Charlie Larkin

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

Cool look. How did you do the swirl marks on the copper? That's neat. Charlie Larkin -
For the interior color, Tamiya Champagne is a nice match for many of the light tans/golds used in that time period, and would go well with the brown exterior. Use a non-metallic flat light brown for the carpet and some of the instrument panel, and don't forget to hit the champgne with semi-gloss to tone down the shine on the interior so it'll look more like vinyl. Several years ago, I started this original 2000-ish issue Edsel and sidelined it when a paint issue arose. I just worked out the paint issue, and have begun working towards gettin' 'er done. The colors are Snow White with Horizon Blue, paint supplied by Scale Finishes. There was a small amount of overspray that I got rid of with 3200-grit sanding pads, and one little spot that I'm going to hit with Novus polish. The car, when done, will probably take on the appearance more of a nicely-preserved original car in modern times as opposed to a factory-fresh example. Contemporary Massachusetts antique plates will be used. Charlie Larkin

I've discussed some of the pitfalls with other casters off and on, here and there. It's a tough run, no question there. I'm wondering if some of the casting could be replaced with 3-D printing? Or it might even be worth looking into doing small aluminum moulds for high-demand items and acquiring one of the little table-top torpedo-ram style injection moulding machines. That would cut down on labor, and probably save tons of money over time from not re-making moulds, nevermind the labor involved in their creation. As to a building, a steel building of adequate size isn't too expensive, and I'd probably get it back on sale of the house (if I were ever to sell.) If the building can also be made multi-purpose for additional revenue (for example, put some garage stalls to rent to people who need to store their cars for the winter,) there are always good opportunities if you keep your eye open and look at alternatives. I keep it in mind, and if I can figure out a way to make it work, then it shall be done. Charlie Larkin

On the subject of OHC-6 cars. This '66 Sprint convertible lives near me. Interesting that it had the 3-speed with the 4-bbl. Saw it at a big cruise night last Friday. It's the only known surviving triple-white convertible. I've sort of decided I want an OHC-6 Tempest or LeMans at some point. Sufficiently weird and different to be interesting. Charlie Larkin

Hopefully, someone will be able to buy Don out and start casting again. The prices of parted-out kits is soaring, and nobody seems to even be trying to make reproduction parts. I've made the statement before, and will again....I have enough space to erect a building and re-start operations. If anyone wants to partner with me financially and split profits, I'll do it. If you live near and want to help cast as well, so much the better. Charlie Larkin

Having been several times (and I try to go every year,) I will vouch. Tom and his team puts on the best show you'll see anywhere. No trophies except for a couple of popular-vote awards and a President's choice. It's a day of fun and fellowship. And quite a few people come from the Midwest. You could fly in from St. Louis or take the train, or it's about a two-day drive each way to be comfortable from you. Charlie Larkin -
DECO-DENT, LFA-Powered Auburn Speedster Hardtop

Conceptually interesting. I like it. I would suggest not going with the huge modern wheels, though. They don't blend well with the car. Maybe some smoothies if you don't want wires. Charlie Larkin -
I had asked elsewhere, but how do I add photos for the internal storage? Charlie Larkin

Duplicolor Perfect Match Spray Paint Chart
charlie8575 replied to Jordan White's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Hi, Tom. Sorry for the delay. Yes, they'll do touch-up bottles. 2 oz about $9-11, depending on color. Charlie Larkin -
If they make a couple of fixes to the chassis, the Montego would work. I'd buy one in a second. I think that's a very nice-looking car. I actually prefer it to the Torino (although if they did a nice '72, I'd buy one of those, too.) I absolutely would buy any Fuselage C-Body. I also join the call for a Boattail Riviera. In the spirit of the muscle set originally called for: 1. A NEW 1965 GTO. Revell's '66 is a great start. AMT or Lindberg's 1966-'67 4-4-2s would also be a good starting point. 2. Something different.....in addition to the '65 Goat, tool up the slightly different body (mainly the taillights and some trim,) and make a 1966-'67 LeMans Sprint with the OHC 6 with the 4-bbl. 3. A not-all-screwed-up '67 GTO. Again....Revell's '66 is a perfect starting place. 4. A correct 1971-'73 Mustang should be a available. A Boss 351 would be cool. So would a convertible. 5. Something really different...1964 Studebaker Hawk GT with the R-4 supercharged engine. Seriously, one of the most attractive cars of the '60s. Yes, all new tool. Yes, Moebius is most likely to do it. 6. Perhaps not "muscle" in the traditional sense, but I would like a thoroughly modern 1966 Olds Toronado kit. The Jo-Han kit is outstanding, especially for its time, but they're pricey, and this is a car whose recognized significance is growing. 7. I think we're due for a completely correct 1970-'74 Dodge Challenger. Provided they actually lengthen the wheelbase a bit, Revell has a good start with the new Barracudas. A 340 Six-Pack car would be pretty nifty, maybe with optional parts to build an SE if you wanted a mini executive rocket for something a little different. Charlie Larkin

Duplicolor Perfect Match Spray Paint Chart
charlie8575 replied to Jordan White's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Yep. Nice people. I get paint from there occasionally. D&G Auto Body Supply on Lunenburg St. in Fitchburg will also mix paint if you prefer PPG. Advance Auto Parts in downtown Gardner handles Nason and Chroma. Charlie Larkin -
Some very nice work here. I like that it's not some fire-breathing resto-mod or a 400. I forgot that Revell kit existed. Might have to keep an eye open for one. Charlie Larkin

One of my military modeling friends tried the Ammo by Mig bottled version- apparently this stuff is all made by one company, and Badger and Ammo re-package it. He said essentially this. Molasses thick, but works beautifully. Charlie Larkin -
Okay. I have some Simple Green. Last bottle of Bleche-Wite I bought didn't even work on my whitewalls. This is fresh resin, so no paint, etc. to remove. Charlie Larkin

Great work. Charlie Larkin

With some reports I've read recently of SuperClean/Purple Power losing their oomph, I'm wondering about cleaning off a body I just purchased. Has anyone tried Simple Green on resin? It is a pretty good cleaner, and shouldn't bother the resin, but I'm wondering if anyone else has tried it? Charlie Larkin
