fatkidd replied to MoparWoman Jamie's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I totally agree that he is awesome. I swear that some of the pictures are real cars. He is in a league of his own -
Thanks, Bart. I'm surprised that your distributor hasn't shown up yet. Thanks. I've become more of a wagon guy in the last few years...its a shame that they are pretty much a thing of the past. Thanks, kind sir

Thanks for the comments guys. And blackout racing, I wish it ran. yes i do. for this project I shot the entire car with orion silver, followed by a coat of sg100 (intercoat clear) where i was putting tape (i had a basic idea how i wanted the stripes to flow) and commenced to lay out the tape, did the black "dashes" and the blue kandy, backmasked the now blue stripe ( i didn't use sg100 at this point because the Kandies that I use are KAndy Koncentrates mixed with SG100 (i mix it myself), sprayed kandy tangerine, backmasked those stripes and sprayed spanish gold over the upper portion of the car, removed tape and sprayed sg100 over those areas to help alleviate edges, cleared the entire body, wetsanded with 2000, sprayed the roof black and recleared. The only part of this car that was polished was the roof. I hope that helps...i tend to get "long winded" sometimes

Pat, I understand that the links are for automotive, which is what I use. I'm well aware that the Kustom Kolors are made by Valspar and are not true H.O.K. paints. However, the colors will be pretty much be the same as what is represented by the speed shapes. The OP asked for examples of the colors and that is what I assisted with.

OK, I will try and help. The shop owner is correct about the Pagan Gold as far as the end resulting color being based on your basecoat color. Pagan Gold is a candy and therefor by its nature is transparent. If you spray it over silver, it will be close to its color in the bottle. Over gold will give you a more goldish yellow, etc. You might want to try visiting a local body shop that uses H.O.K. and see if they have a H.O.K. chip book and will allow you to look through it. It gives a representation of the metallic basecoat colors with the candies over it. You might check H.O.K.'s website, but it won't give you a good representation of the color. this is the only example that I have of Pagan Gold...and it is over Orion Silver. here is a link to the H.O.K. kandy koncentrate colors over Orion Silver... http://houseofkolor.com/speedshapes/speedshapes_kandy.jsp and here is a link to a representation of the first 3 colors that you asked about (scroll down to the bottom)... http://houseofkolor.com/speedshapes/speedshapes_pearls.jsp I hope that this is some help to you.

Vellejo Primer peel...
fatkidd replied to Johnag4004's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
aside from the etching primer, as already mentioned, I would scuff it up a bit more before spraying primer on it again. the isopropyl alcohol is a good idea also...or you could use white vinegar as a wipe down -
and don't forget to let out the summer air in your tires and replace with winter air...

VERY cleanly built...and that interior is AWESOME!!! it looks ready for a test drive.

Jim, yes, just like the dodge pickup Doc, I do not have any video tutorials at this time. But I do have a few things in the works. I watched the video of the spoon test. If I may make a suggestion...don't trail off with the airbrush on every flame lick. What I mean is, just spray a small section of the stecil and let that be it. I realize that the spoon test was only step 1, Just a simple suggestion. You may want to order a set of the mike levallee true fire stencils in the nano size, if you haven't already. here's a picture of a hood that a friend of mine and I did when I was 1st trying out the process. I'm not 100% happy with it...but i am hardly ever 100% happy. here's a few more to possibly help (not green fire)... Now, I'm not a pro at this and I learn a little more each time I do this technique. You might want to get yourself some reference photos of fire. It sounds silly, but it does help. Be sure to go sparringly on your "highlight" color. And don't stress it too much...it is only paint and can be fixed. I hope this helps you out some and didn't confuse you even more.

looks good so far...eager to see more. do the seats come "textured"? Or is that the paint and your technique? They look awesome!

suggestions anyone...
fatkidd replied to outlaw035's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
eliminate the shelves alltogether... buy a roll of magnetic sheeting, paint the back of the cabinet to look like an arial view of a parking lot, park, or whatever you decide, glue a magnet to the bottom of a model, put said model on the back of the cabinet to look like its in a car show setting...make the cabinet a diorama -
if you are going to use that distributor, I would like to make one suggestion... In the directions, they tell you to cut your wire into 8 2inch lengths, but it will make your life a lot easier if you cut it into 4 4inch long pieces, fold in half and then slide the wire through 2 holes on the "cap". This way you do not have to glue each individual wire into the "cap" and they hold better.

I'm totally loving this thing. I think, I too, am going to make one based off of yours. Thanks again for sharing this with us. Does the size of the tubing make any difference? -

that's awesome! thanks so much for sharing. It gives me ALL sorts of ideas. -
My 1st car was a '67 bug...and it was blue too! Although it was a different blue. This is well done. And I really like the use of the tags as the backdrop.

Ok...here's 2 pictures of the ones that I make. I just started making this style a month or so ago and haven't "branched out" with them too much. I did sell some of them to a local hobby shop, though. The plug boots are precut and already placed on the wire. The first picture is of one of the distributors, by itself. The "wiggly" one is the coil wire. I don't don that on all of them, but this one is for me. The second picture is one the distributors in an engine and wired up.

Its ok...I do appreciate that help. Sounds good to me, Jim.

Thanks for the link. They do have a gravity feed spray gun by itself. Now I just need to figure out what else to order from them. Thanks for the info, but i'm looking for diorama type stuff.
-
That's what I was thinking, but I figured that I would check with the folks here.

I thought it was a very simple question. I'm looking for a 1/24 or 1/25 gravity spray gun and airbrush. if they are available anywhere.
