  1. this one is killer, jim. the paint looks smooth and SHINY!!! the interior is done well the engine looks good. all in all a wonderful job. thanks for sharing
  2. as stated, another great issue. i really enjoyed tim boyd's hemi hydro makeover. i liked it so much, i dug one of mine out to try the same thing. thanks for another great magazine
  3. Thanks for the comments, folks. i was debating wheter or not to keep/put kandy apple red stripes in the black. i think it looks better like this
  4. Nothing too fancy here, folks. I built this one box stock as a "complete between projects" kinda build. Interior is a combination of flat black, semi-gloss black, and a little red here and there (sorry, I forgot to take pictures of the interior before assembly. Body is painted House of Kolor Orion Silver b/c with Kandy Apple Red and the top portion is tamiya flat black. Thanks for looking.
  5. Jim, if you are building it as a street rod, hinge it how you would like. but, I think a forward tilt hood would be cool. i think that you have done a side hinge on something, so why not go forward? or split the hood down the center and have it open from the sides
  6. thanks for sharing, danny. i tried to get a picture of just about every model that was there. if i somehow missed yours, plesae don't take it personally.
  7. thanks for sharing those.
  8. you guys are welcome. i finally finished uploading the rest of the pics. beware...there's a lot of them
  9. here's a link to some of the pictures. i still have a lot to upload, but i wanted to share some of them with everyone. i'm headed down to the hospitality suite, but i'll get the rest done soon. i had a great time and spent WAY too much money. haha http://s19.photobuck...outhern%20Nats/
  10. its an awesome show! this will ve my third year attending. I plan on taking lots of pictures and gawking at all of the beautifully crafted masterpieces. wayne, it would be nice to finally meet you. i've heard a lot about you, but have yet to meet you. i hope to meet some killer modelers. Gregg...will you be attending this year?
  11. There are some great ideas floating along here... I'll try and add something. It is a homemade body holder. It is made up of 2 paint stir sticks, a round object (a Bic lighter is what i use, a AA battery works, basically some sort of cylindrical shape), rubber bands, and 2 pieces of masking tape. Take the stir sticks and place them together, with the lighter between them at one end. Wrap a rubber band around the stir sticks on both sides of the lighter...add a second rubber band for added certainty. Place a piece of tape on the "open end" on one of the sticks with approx 1/2" over hang. Fold the tape over so that it sticks to the "tab" that you left as an overhang and wrap the tape backwards so that to sticky side is out. Place body over the sticks and adjust the rubber bands and round object as needed to securely hold the body. This is the method that I use when painting a body. If I am doing multiple colors or graphics, I will take the body off and I can reallign where it held the body previously. I have not had any issues with this method. It allows me to turn the body to all sorts of different angles and make sure that I have full coverage. I use it for every stage of the paint process...from primer to clear. I may change the tape between stages, depending on how the adhesive is holding up (I do change the tape from the previous body just before I put the next one on it). wow, i'm longwinded at explaining stuff. Sorry about that. Thanks for listening
  12. Thanks everybody for the great compliments...it is much appreciated.
  13. here's my latest completion to roll out of the studio... nothing too special...added plug wires, used tamiya smoke to give the engine the "greasy" appearance, used tamiya smoke to blackwash the grille (should do it a few more times) grey and black two tone interior orange and red sharpie over the kit chrome for the turn signal and tail lights Paint: House of Kolor: Orion Silver Basecoat Kandy Magenta Tangelo Pearl for the "stripe" Black Basecoat Thanks for looking.
  14. so i got off of my butt & uploaded the pics i took. i had a great time at the show and talking to fellow (and female) model builders. Congrats to jantrix & imcrazyjim for their awards. http://s19.photobuck...20model%20show/
  15. rob, it was nice to finally meet you. and congrats to your son for making the other magazine.
  16. jim, you are a building fool! i guess someone is "stocking up" for upcoming shows. haha as the others have stated, it looks really nice. i like the body color, the color difference/contrast between the frame & the body, really dig the interior. but can we have a slightly less blurry shot of the emgine, please? haha well done, sir
  17. an easy way to acheive a "brushed" effect is to spray some silver (the less metallic the silver is, the better to look) down and then take a scotchbrite pad & drag it through the silver paint. you DO NOT want to use pressure as the sanding could return to haunt you in the end (after clear). try it on a spoon or a spare body, if you have one, before you do it on your freshly prepped body...just in case. also...a little extra note...if you can drag the scotchbrite pad through the paint before it fully flashes, the result will look better. remember, less is more. again, try it on a spoon or a spare body or hood or something like that so that yoiu can play with the effect before you go with the final. hope this helps
  18. ok...i'll throw in some stuff i've painted over the years... bmx bicycle painted black with blue fire gilf club painted black with blue fire (for my dad on father's day a few years ago) r/c helicopter canopy painted chrome yellow with purple fire (left side) r/c helicopter canopy painted chrome yellow with purple fire (right side) realistic fire has blown up on the custom circuit...although i think its fading away a bit
  19. It was nice to meet those that were at the meeting yesterday. good turnout and some very nice builts were brought to show & admire.
  20. you are quite welcome, sir. glad i could be of assistance
  21. is this the moisture trap that you are referring to? http://www.coastairb...=FA-450&cat=306 if so, the bleeder is nothing more than a schraeder valve (like an inner tube, tire, etc). there is a possibility that it may be a little loose. harbor freight has one that will work with iwata airbrushes. it is a little linger than the iwata one, but as a secondary solution, should work just fine. otherwise, try to return it to hobby lobby or contact coastairbrush.com & they may be able to swap it out for you (don't quote me on that though). i love the moisture trap just before the airbrush...it eliminates any traces of moisture just before the airbrush.
  22. so...where are the pics? or are we supposed to close our eyes and imagine all the builds?
  23. tcp global is a good place to deal with. you could also try coastairbrush.com they have pretty much any HOK color in small quantities (about the same as tcp, pricewise) here's the link to caost's page for HOK pealr basecoats... http://www.coastairbrush.com/products.asp?cat=49
  24. This is not a fancy or high profile tip...but merely something that I do to help me and thought I would pass it on to the "family" here. When you are doing plug wires and you are using a larger wire's insulation for the boot material... After you have cut the boot material into the lengths that you will be using, slide all of the boots onto a straight pin. It will stretch the insulation just enough to slide easily onto the plug wires. Like I said, nothing fancy, but it works.
  25. thanks for the comments folks. Diymirage - i appreciate the honest remark. I would normally agree with you about the rather large wheels, but they fit this application rather well. at least i think so. and its odd, i was thinking about putting a bike in the back of mine.
